Skellam distribution

Recommended Posts

Re: Skellam distribution The definition of Skellam distribution says: Discrete probability distribution of the difference of two statistically independent random variables, each one having Poisson distributions with different expected values. So, both variables are calculated using Poisson, and then Skellam compares them to obtain probability of their difference; hence you cannot calculate probability of exact score 0-2; you can only calculate probability of a team winning with specified goal difference, in your example probability of match ending 0-2 or 1-3 or 2-4, etc... But maybe there is some modification that allows for correct score calculation, so don't take my answer as final, hope someone else may give more details. :ok In the meantime, you can read the earlier discussion on this topic here: http://forum.punterslounge.com/threads/113292-Calculating-team-s-total-goals-in-footbal
