Re: Antepost > League One 2013/14 > Winner Swindon can forget it for next year i would take 5th from bottom right now. They are releasing players who are on high wages which are the better players such as ferry, Devera and keeping the cheap rubbish. Swindon had 3 main assets last year 1. Di Canio 2. Owner Andrew Black who was prepared to pick up the tab for Di Canios spending. 3. Matt Ritchie - league 1 player of the season. Now they have none of the above and the likelihood is other decent players may leave such as Foderingham, Collins, flint, mcormack trying to give Benson away. In short it will not be good.:(

Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner Title preview: 1pt ew Preston to win League 1 14/1 Stan James (1/4 1-3) Preston look like they have the credentials to go well this season. They have a manager who knows how to get sides out of this division, albeit two of them have gone up through the playoffs but the one thing you know about Simon Grayson sides is that they will be organised, hard to beat but they will be effective going forward. Kevin Davies brings good experience to the squad and after a strong finish to last season and a good infrastructure in place Preston should go very well this season. Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner 2pts Coventry to be relegated 4/1 Skybet Coventry have all sorts of issues off the pitch and they are set to have an impact on the field. The Sky Blues went into administration last season and while they served their punishment last season the fallout is still lingering. They are in dispute over their stadium and the talk is they will ground share with Northampton in Northampton and that can’t be ideal. They have lost quite a few players and have had no funds to bring any players in so they will start the season much weaker and lighter in numbers than they finished it. With the potential for even more difficulty off the field this could be a long season for Coventry. 1pt Swindon to be relegated 5/1 Betfred Swindon are another side who have off the field activities which concern me. Their consortium have a bit of a stigma attached to them and the way Paolo di Canio and Kevin MacDonald have left in the space of six months doesn’t exude confidence in the decision makers in Wiltshire. Some key players in Aden Flint, Alan McCormack and Gary Roberts have left and it is only youngsters from Tottenham who have come in. Mark Cooper has plenty of prove as caretaker manager after his shambles of a tenure at Peterborough and the Robins are another side who could struggle at a big price. Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner 1pt ew T.Pope Top Goalscorer 33/1 Coral (1/4 1-4) Tom Pope had a fantastic season for Port Vale last year and there’s no reason why he can’t go well again this season. Pope is a natural goalscorer who may well go on to bigger and better things in time but for now he’ll be concentrating on scoring goals for Vale. Pope scored 31 goals in a fantastic season in League 2 last year but he has all the credentials to deal with League 1 defences and with more creative players brought in to provide him the former Crewe man looks a big price this season too. 1pt ew N.Wells Top Goalscorer 25/1 BetVictor (1/4 1-4) Bradford made the Capital One Cup final and one of their success stories was Nakhi Wells. Wells’ pace and movement made him too hot to handle for Premier League defences let alone League 2 defences and he should continue to hound defences now Bradford are up in League 1. I like strikers with pace as they can create their own chances and having scored more than 20 goals in all competitions for Bradford last season he could well go well again this term too. Peterborough to win League One @ 10 - Various. Tbh I'm not sure there's a whole host of real contenders for the League One title this season. Which is why I feel there's some value in Peterborough as they're priced similarly to a number of sides in the mix. I feel they're better prepared than most sides. They may have moved on a couple of players like George Boyd but they still have the nucleus of a squad and manager that know what it takes to win the league. They've already broken their transfer record to bring in Britt Assombalonga who I think can be a good signing. I expect them to still play their same attacking blend of football, so I'd be surprised if they aren't top three come April.

Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner

There's no relegation thread' date=' but I agree with the Coventry to go down bet.... They have no money, and will be sharing a ground with Northampton this season. They look pretty doomed, but I think most bookies have taken them down now.[/quote'] Can still get 5/4 with Ladbrokes. I grant you it isn't 4/1 but it is 10pts better off now.

I agree with jase, the real contenders for league one victory does seem to be a small choice. Always the possibility that an unfancied team may barge in but nothing really stands out as value. I plumped for Sheffield utd (seem to have a solid base and not too much pre-season expectation of them) but can't say I'd have too much confidence in anyone here. Coventry price seems tempting as Portsmouth demonstrated how a piints deduction and ongiing off the field issues can really drag any club down. Only concern is how weak the bottom half appear, thee seems more of a push to get out of league one by the wrong route!

At least they are playing at their own ground though which Coventry aren't going to be!

Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner I posted last year and heavily tipped up my team Brentford to finish in top 6. However, i find it astonishing, literally astonishing that you an still get 1.8 on us to finish in top 6 on betfair. We have added SO much quality in the close season. Everyone who has left are far less significant than the bookies make out. Bradley Wright Phillips - scored a few (fire power has comfortably been replaced - see later) but his overall contribution wasnt huge MArcello Trotta - very selfish, would often shoot instead of passing. Good finisher though- Harry Forrester - faded badly in second half of season as he was often double marked and became very predictable Since then we've bought in: Alan McCormack - captain of Swindon has totally shored up the midfield and is a real driving presence on the pitch which is perhaps something we lacked George Saville - on loan from Chelsea looks very classy and utterly bossed the game when we beat Millwall 3-0 in a pre season Javi Venta - full back from Villareal huge experience in La Liga and Champions League, all the players are already saying they've never played with such a model pro Will Grigg - scored 20 goals for Walsall in league 1 last season, say no more Paul HAyes - he's not a new player but the ex Charlton forward lost a stone over the summer and its like having a new player, looking really sharp Connor McEleny - forward on 6 month loan from Everton. Has settled quickly as we already have 2 of of his former team mates in Forshaw and Bidwell here. Scored twice on debut against Cardiff last week. Rosler says he doesnt need many chances to score which is something we were guilty of. Martin Filo, full Czech international again with plenty of CL experience looks very classy out wide, could terrorise these league 1 defences On top of that Stuart Dallas has looked electrifying in the preseason friendlies a winger we signed from Northern Ireland last summer who showed a lot of promise in his limited appearances last season. The potential firepower in this team is like nothing I have ever seen at Griffin Park in 25 years. I haven't even mentioned Clayton Donaldson and Dead ball specialist Sam Saunders Defence is solid enough. We lost Simon Moore in goal to Cardiff but in Richard Lee and David Button we have two keepers who are better than most in this league. So all in all a top six finish at 1.8 is amazing, I am 80/% sure we will finish in top 3 but am always cautious. Also I will be buying Brentfords goal rush in every match this season on SPIN. We have so many goals in us from so many areas, and on the days it clicks we could absolutely smash some teams. The quality and depth throughout the squads is just ridiculous. There will be some people not even making it on the bench who would be worthy of a start! Everything about Brentford Football Club at the moment is on the up, a truly professional set up. WE are even the only league 1 club to go from a centre of Excellence to a Level 2 Academy which is no mean feat. I ruly feel this is the start of some amazing journey under the leadership of owner/fan Matthew Benham (owner of smartodds) and promotion this season is just the start. I made a lot of people a lot of money last month with my tip, this year I am even more certain. Don't miss out.... I have bet more on Bees pre-season than I have ever before by quite some margin such is my confidence.

Backed your boys last 2 years and fearful of losing more money on them atm. Gonna do another accy after window closes but Still watching Brentford. One new signing you missed was our ben nugent, Central defender. He came through our academy (Cardiff) and looked very promising at championship level. A drop to league one and regular football, could prove extremely benefical to both Brentford and nugent. Sent from my GT-I9300 using PL Forum

Re: League One 2013/14 > Winner

I posted last year and heavily tipped up my team Brentford to finish in top 6.
