Jump Racing ~ Saturday March 2nd

3.15 Newbury: Ladbrokes Supporting Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) (2m110y) Plenty of horses coming back into action now that the heavy ground has gone and its difficult to know how their form stands up, at least half a dozen of them have been hanging around for the better ground or have been running on unsuitable going. I’ve narrowed it down to Princely Player, Meganisi and Tango De Juilley and a tentative vote goes to the Hobbs horse who has dropped down to a fair mark. Meganisi takes a drop in class and has been on the go recently so fitness wont be an issue and has a handy 7lbs claimer on top today and is a value price in an open race. Selections: 1pt Princely Player 14/1

William Hill 1pt Meganisi 12/1 Bet365

Re: Jump Racing ~ Saturday March 2nd 2.55 Doncaster Ikorodu Road 2pt win @ 10/1 Bet365 I like the chances here of last years winner Ikorodu Road who comes into this race on the back of a good effort after at Leicester on unflavoured heavy ground. This horse much prefers racing on a sound surface so he actually did well to finish 3rd at Leicester on his first encounter of heavy ground. Connections have kept him away from heavy ground throughout his career so I think this was more of a case of getting a run into him to set him up for a defence of this race. He won this race last year off a mark of 130 so he certainly has it all to do off an 8lb higher mark tomorrow but I think his run 2 outings ago at Doncaster proved he can remain competitive off his new mark. In that race at Donny he looked to be outpaced coming to 2 out but stayed on well again near the finish to be beaten just over a length into 5th. The extra 2f here will be in his favour and he can turn the form around with those that finished ahead of him in that race. A return to this track is also a plus as he has ran very well on each of the 3 occasions he has ran here. He finished a head 2nd to Harry the Viking over CD back in 2011 before going on to win this race last year beating Junior in the process. His only other run at the track was a close up 5th 2 runs ago. The ground has also come right for him, which is another positive and I would be disappointed if he couldn’t get involved at the business end. Join Together has to be respected but they may have left a little to work on with him, as his main target is the National. Calgary Bay is a classy horse but has to prove his wellbeing. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the Reveley horses win this but I think the main danger to my selection could be Mr Moonshine who chased home Cape Tribulation last time out. It looks a very open race but I am happy to side with last year’s winner who should give us a good run for our money.
