Re: Thursday 4:00: Byrne Group Plate

Intriguing renewal of the Byrne Group Plate and this race is more often than not won by a horse carrying less than 11st. Ballynagour slips into that category and its hard to ignore his chances after his demolition job at Warwick on his British debut. A 20lb rise is hard to defy especially in this company but he’s still just about backable at around 7/2. At the other end of the scale Hunt Ball can go well back down in trip and looks the main danger. Of the bigger priced runners Theatre Guide could go well for the in form Tizzard team. Selections; 2pts Ballynagour 4/1

Re: Thursday 4:00: Byrne Group Plate 4.00 Cheltenham - 2pts win Cantlow @ 7/1 (Bet365) Novices have a pretty good record in this race and Paul Webber's charge has been shrewdly campaigned I reckon for all he has won two out of four chases and been runner-up on the other two occasions. He clearly stays further than the two miles he's been running over - given his third in the Pertemps Final last year - and sharp tracks wouldn't be ideal for him either. His chase runs have been at Warwick, Plumpton, Lingfield and Taunton so he was unlikely to perform quite to his best there (albeit won by a wide margin last time at Taunton). Connections also think he's better on decent ground and I just think the step up in trip is sure to suit today on a more galloping track. He's a big horse who always looked like a chaser so although he may not have beaten anything too special so far, he runs off the same mark as over hurdles and I think he'll comfortably be a better chaser in time. Not a big price but certainly has a big chance.

Re: Thursday 4:00: Byrne Group Plate Im on Theatre Guide for this. Looks very progressive and had he gone on to win his latest start at Kempton, given the manner he was travelling that day, he would have been a far shorter price. l think it's always worth remembering that in these massive field handicapps that double figure prices are nothing to be scared of as it's comprative to a 5 or 6/1 shot in a 12 runner or so flat handicapp. The Tizzard's are clearly in good heart, both leading up to the festival and this week itself. Gone for Theatre Guide and Cue Card in singles and an e/w double.
