Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Sep 1 I'm time-lite this weekend, but I've taken advantage of a couple of drifts at BetVictor. Altrincham at home to Histon (Evs, BetVictor) Despite the fact that Alty have been painfully wide-open at times, they've also attacked fluently at times, and I think they'll have enough to see off a Histon side that is basking in the glory of successive victories. Kaine Sheppard is back as a replacement for Dan Holman, and he's a decent player, but overall the squad looks fairly light compared to Alty's. Against Chester, Alty were great on the front foot and might have got something from the game if only their new defensive personnel were on anything like the same wavelength. I was saying in the antepost thread how impressive Alty's new defensive line-up is looking, and now after they've conceded 11 in the first four I can just about see the screen through the egg on my face. Nevertheless, Evs is a good price - there will be a lot of goals and Alty will score more than half of them. Sutton United at home to Dorchester Town (Evs, BetVictor) Sutton without a win, play Dorchester with two wins. While Dorchester deserve much credit for their spirited performances, they've yet to put in a consistent performance and I think they've been flattered by that points return. Sutton also have been creaky but they have faced Dover and Welling so far, getting creditable draws and looking competitive. They are letting leads slip, which I'm choosing to read as a sign that a win is not far away. I'm concerned about the goals conceded, and they have been a bit short of their preferred defensive unit, but Simon Downer may be back on Saturday, and with plenty of attacking options I'd set Sutton at a lot less than evens.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Sep 1 Altrincham v Histon I watched Histon last Saturday and although they fully deserved to beat Gloucester 2-1 I still think they are in for a relegation battle. First off Gloucester couldn’t have played worse if they tried and I think it says a lot that Histon had to rely on two very late penalties to win the game. Although Gloucester didn’t test the defence and keeper much I saw enough to know that they are going to remain a weak point against better teams this season. To be fair to Histon they followed up Saturday’s win with a victory against Hinckley on Monday, but again Hinckley are another side who should be in a relegation battle and I wouldn’t get carried away with either. Altrincham are showing the same inconsistencies they did last season and the defence has been surprisingly leaky so far. They are looking much better up front though and as Damien Reeves gets up to full fitness they have one of the best strike forces in the league. With Histon seeming vulnerable in defence, Altrincham should get plenty of chances to score goals. Histon will probably get chances themselves, but like I say, they dominated against Gloucester last week and still struggled to find the net and even if they did score I am fairly confident the home side will find more. At BetVictor’s even money I make them the bet of the weekend. Vauxhall Motors v Gainsbrough Trinity I was pretty confident that Motors could get three points against a struggling Droylsden on Monday but they were very disappointing and ended up losing 5-2. Motors had beaten Altrincham last Saturday but after Monday’s effort I get the feeling that might have been more to do with Altrincham’s off-days rather than Motors being a decent side. They have at least won two games however which is more than you can say for Trinity who have yet to win. They were a bit disappointing in their first two but have shown more in the two matches over the bank holiday weekend. A bit like Kidderminster, you get the feeling their first Blue Square North win of the season isn’t going to be long in coming and I think they will have enough to see off the home side here. What is noticeable again is the difference in prices with BetVictor going 29/20, but Blue Square only 6/5 and I think that offers enough value.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Sep 1 I'm also on Gainsborough, though I got on too early and missed the drift out to 29/20, which is still available. I'm hoping they give Bradley Barraclough a start, as I think he is certainly good enough to make an impact at this level (he was one of the key elements in Buxton's revival last season) and will go some way to solving Gainsborough's main problem this season: converting. Chairman Peter Swan said earlier this week that he's bowing out for health issues and on-going failures of his attempt to buy the ground, and for the long-term this is very bad news for Gainsborough - no way will the budget in 2013-14 match this season's, unless they get to the 4th round of the Cup. So what effect will it have on the team? I'd expect big wage-earners to be open to bids and to start disappearing, though not in their droves. But in the short term I think it might have a galvanising effect on the squad, who'll want to say a thank-you to the popular Swan, who has done so much to take the club forward. That's one reason I am on - that and the fact that they are better than Vauxhall in almost all departments (Vauxhall have a bit more pace out wide).

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Sep 1 Thank you very much Shipsupstreets & Addpea. If you two agree then pile in is my non league philosophy ! Did doubles and trebles with my own selection of Fylde together with Gainsborough and Altrincham. Keep hearing how Fylde absolutely dominate games without finishing them off and at 4/9 thought they would be home and hosed by half time once they finally put it all together. Don't know how the scoring went in the second half but 4-3 sounds a bit close for comfort ! Thank you again.

Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet North & South Sep 1 By the way there didnt seem to be much interest on here with the live FA Cup game last week. Uxbridge absolutely hammered them in the replay. Agree with Addpea that the Wembley heroes who were brought in made it difficult but I must admit the goal rush at 15-18 was a no brainer with Uxbridge. Watching the game what was interesting was that the bookies still had Wembley favourites in the first half although it always seemed clear that Uxbridge with more pace and from the higher league would come on strong in the second half. Must admit the two late goals were a bonus but these games are always interesting when the spread boys do not know any more than the punters. Interesting that they did not offer prices on the bookings in the replay which was a bit of a blessing as I think I would have got suckered into a cheeky buy. In the end I dont think too many yellows were shown. In hindsight the draw in the first game was a sensible option as you wonder whether the two chairmen gave each other the nod on a cheeky draw with the tv rights from the replay to come! Scurrillous rumour but it did cross my mind , sadly after the final whistle!!

It was no surprise they ran out easy winners in the replay, but I was watching the Paralympics opening ceremony so forgot to get involved.
