Wales U21 v Germany U21 (19:30 CET)

Recommended Posts

Wales U21 Squad:Price (Ipswich), Worgan (Rushden), Beevers (Boston), Collins (capt, Cardiff), Duffy (Portsmouth), Gilbert (Plymouth), Morgan (Wrexham), Nyatanga (Derby), Fowler (Huddersfield), Ledley (Cardiff), Pipe (Notts County), Pulis (Portsmouth), Vaughan (Crewe), Fleetwood (Cardiff), Birchall (Arsenal), Calliste (Man Utd), Crofts (Gillingham), Davies (Oxford), Tolley (Shrewsbury) Any opinions about this one? Germany(1.80) doesn’t look like a bad deal IMO.Their coach will be able to field a very good side tonight. Both Brzenska(Borrusia Dortmund) and Fathi(Hertha) are the regular defenders in their clubs recently as well as Riether(Freiburg) who scored once against M’gladbach on Sunday. The best Munchen 1860 player Matthias Lehmann is outstanding for a while and should be the biggest problem for the Wales defenders, alongside Mike Hanke.Last year’s U21 side was far stronger(Benjamin Auer, Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Hitzlsperger, Huth, etc…), but this looks Ok as well: Germany U21: Rensing (FC Bayern) - Volz (Fulham), Langkamp (Bielefeld), Brzenska (Dortmund), Fathi (Hertha BSC) - Riether (Freiburg), Lehmann (1860 München) - Ludwig (Hertha BSC), Baier (1860 München), Jansen (Gladbach) - Hanke (Schalke 04)

Re: Wales U21 v Germany U21 (19:30 CET) from the BBC:

Ledley/Croft make Wales U21 debut

Cardiff's Joe Ledley and Gillingham's Andy Crofts will both make their Wales Under-21s debut in Tuesday's Uefa Championship qualifier against Germany. There are four more uncapped players on the bench in Lee Jon Beevers, Lewin Nyatanga, Tony Pulis and Craig Davies. Wrexham midfielder Mark Jones has been forced out of the match at his home Racecourse ground with injury. Jones was a surprising omission from the original squad, but was called up by U21 manager Brian Flynn on Friday. His place is taken by talented Cardiff youngster Stuart Fleetwood. Wales Under-21s are fourth in Group Six, with four points from three games. Meanwhile, Flynn has been turned down in a move to recruit 18-year-old Kilmarnock striker Stevie Naismith. The Scotland Under-19 cap is dual qualified as his father is Welsh, but the Irvine-born youngster says he would rather play for Scotland. Wales Under-21 to play Germany in Uefa Championship Group Six qualifier at Wrexham on 8 February: Lewis Price (Ipswich Town), Richard Duffy (Portsmouth), Peter Gilbert (Plymouth Argyle), David Pipe (Notts County), Craig Morgan (Wrexham), James Collins (Cardiff City, capt), Andrew Crofts (Gillingham), Lee Fowler (Huddersfield Town), Ramon Caliste (Manchester United), David Vaughan (Crewe Alexandra), Joe Ledley (Cardiff City). Subs: Lee Jon Beevers (Boston United), Lewin Nyatanga (Derby County), Anthony Pulis (Stoke City), Jamie Tolley (Shrewsbury Town), Craig Davies (Oxford United), Stuart Fleetwood (Cardiff City), Lee Worgan (Rushden & Diamonds).
Collins named Wales U-21 captain

Cardiff City's James Collins has been dropped from the senior Wales squad to captain the Under-21 side in a Uefa Championship qualifier with Germany. Collins won five caps under former boss Mark Hughes, but new manager John Toshack believes the 21-year-old will benefit from a step down a level. New Under-21 boss Brian Flynn has named six uncapped players for the match in Wrexham on Tuesday, 8 February. They include striker Joe Ledley, who has broken into Cardiff's first team. The other are Lee Jon Beevers (Boston), Lewin Nyatanga (Derby), Tony Pulis (Portsmouth), Andy Crofts (Gillingham) and Craig Davies (Oxford). Toshack said Collins is in the "driving seat" to partner Danny Gabbidon in Wales' next World Cup qualifier against Austria in March.

But with Wales short of experienced defenders, the new manager explained he wants to give some new players a taste of international football. "It gives me the chance to have a look at Danny Collins and David Partridge, as well as Gabbidon," Toshack told BBC Wales Sport. "It gives [James] Collins a bit of responsibility to go out to captain his country against a strong Germany side in a competitive match. "Hopefully we'll be able to increase the competition for places by doing that." Wales U-21s are fourth in qualifying Group Six, with four points from three games.
