Re: Npower Football League Championship Playoff Final > 19th May 19th May CPO West Ham vs Blackpool I am really looking forward to this game, and will be a good build up to the Champions league final. When Blackpool produced that late charge to secure a play-off spot and subsequently win to get promotion to the Premier league, everyone thought they were going to struggle and go straight back down. Though they were right, Blackpool were silencing the critics throughout the season until the very end, and were unlucky to go down with such a tight relegation battle that year. West Ham did worse than Blackpool in the Premier league last season, but remain firm favourites to gain promotion with Blackpool's expensive this season. Though not playing the West Ham way, Sam Allardyce has done very well to turn West Ham's fortunes around, despite missing out on an automatic promotion spot. They were comfortable enough against a tame Cardiff side in the first leg of their play offs. Though they deserved the result, perhaps the aggregate 5 - 0 scoreline was slightly emphatic. Blackpool had a much tighter game against Birmingham. They were unlucky not to capitalise on a poor Birmingham display, only managing a 1 - 0 win at Bloomfield road when it could have easily been 3 - 0. They narrowly avoided a Birmingham comeback by getting a 2 - 2 draw at St. Andrews in a entertaining encounter. West Ham being so close to an automatic play off and having a aggregate score of 8 - 1 against Blackpool in their two league encounters, this might suggest a walkover for West Ham. Though Blackpool has been there and done it, having gained promotion two seasons ago. All the pressure will be on West Ham. They have been the strongest since their relegation, having managed to keep a healthy percentage of their first team squad from the Premier league season as well as buying top draw Championship players to contest with. Should they not be promoted, all this will feel like a fiasco. What I really don't get is the odds. For a final like this against a team like Blackpool who have tasted Premier league success and are hungry for more, you can't price West Ham at evens. Though of course they are favourites, I don't see enough security in the deviation to back them. Both teams have fully fit squads, with Collison the only doubt who announced that he should be fit for the final. It should be an entertaining game with extremely high stakes for both clubs. Re: Npower Football League Championship Playoff Final > 19th May Can see goals in this one, and most likely a WH win in the 90. The size of the Wembley turf lends itself to the sort of attacking flair which both sides contain. Holloway's Blackpool don't tend to sit back and defend, and they kept only 4 clean sheets away in the regular season. Granted they did tighten up towards the end of the campaign but at Birmingham in the semi they showed nerves again & conceded 2, despite leading 2-0. They've also scored at leeast 1 in 23 of their last 24 league games (although they only managed to put 1 past the Hammers over the space of 180 minutes in the regular season). I just think West Ham will have too much for them in the end given their squad depth, and they'll prevail over an undoubtedly spirited Blackpool performance. Over 2.5 @ 1.82 Betfair

Re: Npower Football League Championship Playoff Final > 19th May Over 3.5 @ 2.84 sportsbet West Ham won 4-0 at home and then 4-1 at Blackpool in their regular season game, but doubt that they will be that dominant here. Blackpool beat Birmingham 1-0 at home and then drew 2-2 away to progress to this decider, and they are a team that scores goals as well as leaks goals in. They have scored in 9 of their last 10 away games in the Championship, and have scored at least twice in 6 of these games, but have only two clean sheets in these games, as they have allowed at least two goals in 5 of these games. West Ham have scored at least twice in 10 of their last 11 games in the Championship, as well as in 7 of their last 9 away games, while they have allowed goals in 6 of their last 10 away games. Holloway is not the type of manager to play it conservative and will give it a go here, and like this to be a pretty open game with goals in it.

Re: Npower Football League Championship Playoff Final > 19th May Congrats to you West Ham backers (none on this thread) and congrats to West Ham fans in general. Enjoy your day! If Blackpool can keep a hold of most of their squad they're worth considering to back for promotion next season.
