Flat Racing - May 2nd

3:10 Kempton Side Glance 2pt win - 9/4 (WH) Disappointed on seasonal debut, but did so the year before and then markedly upped his form. His level of form over a mile is above everything in the race, and although a few obviously have potential to do better, I don't think it's over a mile. He should have the race run to suit, and has fitness on his side compared to his main rivals in the market, who are all making their seasonal debuts. 4:05 Pontefract Antigua Sunrise 1pt win - 7/1 (Lads) Pedigree of the horse suggests ground will suit, is a horse that likes to track the leaders before taking over (which at the course is important) and has extra stamina to see out a demanding finish. Races off a very winnable mark of 72 taking into account the jockey's claim. My worry is the fact that it's her seasonal reappearance, but that's factored in and there has already been money for her. 3:45 Kempton Barbican 1pt win - 6/1 (WH) Proven on the surface and will strip fitter for his seasonal debut in Meydan. Hasn't won over the distance, but his first try was in Meydan on World Cup night. His efforts over 1m6f suggest he'll stay rather than the opposite. I think the favourite has a bit to prove. Second in the Melbourne cup and a high class horse on his day, but he may well need the run and isn't one to take a shortish price about. Barbican has a perfect record on all weather tracks and it's hard to not see him running a big race.

Re: Flat Racing - May 2nd 2:00 » Kempton (AW) WED 2 MAY 2012 BET AT BLUESQUARE.COM CONDITIONS STAKES (CLASS 4) (2yo) Winner £4,046 Standard 5f Number of runners: 5 LYRIC ACE 5pts to win @ 10/11 (Ladbrokes and many more) Lyric Ace couldn't have been more impressive with his easy win (second time out) over 5f at Leicester (soft) 19 days ago. The 2yo trained by Richard Hannon was sent off favourite (5/6) on his debut (Kempton, 5f, 7 Apr) when finished only 4th but ran very green that day and was short of room soon after the start before staying on nicely in the final furlong. Nothing special but he had shown some promises for sure and showed more than that next time out. Lyric Ace showed a pinch of class in that winning performance and the way Effie B (beaten 5L by Lyric Ace that day) won her maiden next time out (11 days ago at Nottingham, 5f, soft) gave another boost to that performance (the small Mick Channon-trained filly bolted up a field of 7 runners to win eased down by 7L). Third in that race won by Lyric Ace at Leicester was Well Acquainted, beaten 6L, who was the favourite of the race (sent off at 13/8) thanks to his nice debut 13 days before at Doncaster (5f, good) when the Clive Cox-trained colt had finished second in a 12-runner field, beaten just 1/2L (headed near finish). That was a decent race too as the favourite of that race Marvelino (11th that day) improved to finish second next time out in what was Lyric Ace's debut (Kempton, 5f, 7 Apr). That winner of that race was the Mark Johnston-trained Baileys Jubilee (4L ahead of Marvelino and 6.5L ahead of Lyric Ace) and the Bahamian Bounty filly built on that performance winning in impressive style (8L ahead of the second) next time out at Nemwarket (5f, good, 18 Apr) recording a RPR of 100. The fourth of that race (Lyric Ace's debut at Kempton) Coconut Kisses easily won next time out (Wolverhampton, 5f, 14 Apr) and the same goes for the Mick Channon-trained Chilworth Icon, 7th on his debut at Kempton and an easy winner next time out (Bath, 5f, good to soft). Of course Chilworth Icon is one of today's rival again and can't be rated better than my selection on the evidence of their two races (behind Lyric Ace on their debut and easy winner but surely not as impressive as Lyric Ace next time out). Two colts had their debut on that day at Kempton (Lea Valley Black and Fortinbrass) and both ran again in the race won by Baddilini (Windsor, 5f, good, 16 Apr) a collateral line which puts also the Alan Bailey-trained son of Bertolini behind my selection. Baddilini had only that start so far and could well improve a lot since that winning debut but even if he is a nice precocious colt and connections want to race him in the Lily Agnes at Chester he should be not a match for my selection at this early stage of their career (he's surely bred to stay further). The other two runners are Mossgo and Rated. Mossgo is a colt by Moss Vale trained by John Best who won his debut at Yarmouth (5f, good to soft, 10 Apr) in good style but beat only 4 rivals that day and the third Reberty Lee ran twice more already surely giving no boost to that form. Rated should be the second string of Mick Channon in this race. The colt is a son of Sixties Icon as well as his stablemate Chilworth Icon and finished 6th of 9 on his debut (Musselburgh, 5f, good to soft, 7 Apr) before he went in next time out at Folkestone (5f, good to soft) beating only 3 rivals. That performance was nothing special for sure and he's bread for further distance so in a quick 5f (Lyric Ace will surely try to go ahead an make it a proper race) he could be not able to match these fast 2yos at the moment. Not easy to predict a winner at this stage of the season for a 2yo race with 5 runners all coming from a success but the way Lyric Ace shaped on his second start and the team he comes from give me a big confidence for this odds-on shot.
