Tottenham Hotspur host Blackburn Rovers, who were one of the original 12 members of the Football League, at White Hart Lane on Sunday 29th April 2012 in the 36th round of 2011-12 Premier League matches (35th game for Spurs). Tottenham come into the game in 5th place in the table with 59 points, while Rovers are in 18th place with 31 points. This will be the 110th time the two teams have met. Tottenham's association with Blackburn goes back to even before the two clubs played each other. The young lads who were the early members of Hotspur FC (later to be called Tottenham Hotspur) took the afternoon off from their friendly football fixtures to watch the 1884 FA Cup Final at the old Crystal Palace between Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park from Glasgow, Scotland. The lads were so impressed with Rover's 2-1 win (the first of three consecutive FA Cup Final wins) that they decided to adopt Rovers' strip of blue and white halved shirts in homage. When Spurs celebrated their 125th anniversary in 2007, the shirt was worn for the home Premier League match with Aston Villa. April 1897 saw Rovers visit Spurs at Northumberland Park for a friendly match which the Lancashire club won 2-1. The first competitive meeting came in the old second round (today's fourth round) of the FA Cup in February 1907 with the first match drawn 1-1 and a replay also drawn 1-1. A second replay took place at Villa Park where Spurs won 2-1. Blackburn won the first League match against Spurs at Ewood Park (which is the oldest consecutive home of a Premier League team) in January 1910 2-0 but Spurs won the return game in March 4-0. By the mid-1930s, both clubs were playing in the Second Division and ten games were played at this level. The only other non-Top Flight League matches came in 1977-78 when Spurs played their only season outside the top level since 1949-50. Spurs did the "double" over Blackburn during their Double season of 1960-61, winning 4-1 away and 5-2 at home. November 1988 saw the first Football League Cup match between the clubs with Rovers holding Spurs to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane only to lose the replay 2-1 after extra time at Ewood Park. Blackburn Rovers beat Tottenham Hotspur in the 2002 Football League Cup Final played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Both Blackburn and Spurs were founder members of the Premier League but only Tottenham have been ever-present since 1992-93. Spurs won the reverse fixture at White Hart Lane last season in November 4-2 with a brace from Gareth Bale and goals from Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch. Rovers two goals were scored by Ryan Nelsen and Gael Givet. The game at Ewood Park in February resulted in a 1-0 win for Spurs, thanks to a Peter Crouch goal. Spurs signed former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel (2000-08) during the summer and New Zealand defender Ryan Nelsen was transferred from Rovers during the January 2012 window. The reverse fixture at Ewood Park in October ended in a 2-1 away win for Spurs. Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring on 15 minutes but Rovers equalised through Mauro Formica in the 28th minute. A second goal from van der Vaart on 53 minutes proved enough to win the three points for Tottenham. Spurs have a 17 to 11 win advantage over Rovers in the 35 Premier League games played with 7 matches drawn. Overall, Spurs have 49 wins to Rovers 38 with 22 matches of the 109 played so far drawn.

Re: Tottenham v Blackburn > 29 April Newcastle and arsenal have both dropped points. Tottenham is at home to the second worst team. There is no way they aren't winning this. Am not sure about the number of goals. But they are winning. Tottenham to win @1.38

Re: Tottenham v Blackburn > 29 April Over 3.5 @ 2.23 pinnacle With Newcastle losing yesterday, very good opportunity for Spurs to get some form back and win this and go ahead of Newcastle and take 4th spot on goal difference. Spurs have just one win in their last 10 EPL games, as they have conceded in 8 of these games, as their defence has gone missing, while up front, they have scored in 6 of these games. Blackburn's defence gives them a chance to score as prior to their 2-0 win over Norwich, they had conceded 3 goals in their last 3 games, and have allowed 2 goals or more in 5 of their last 6 games. They are stuck in the bottom 3 so they need to score to get the 3 points they need so they will like their chances of attacking Spurs from the start. These two teams have scored in 5 of their last 6 meetings at White Hart Lane, and have seen at least 4 goals scored in their last 2 meetings there. Liking the look of plenty of goals in this game Season record: 152-214 (-10.13)

Re: Tottenham v Blackburn > 29 April Spurs v Blackburn No Form, No Confidence and that's Spurs I am talking about! The players have lost the form that helped them carve open defence's earlier in the season, whether it's the Redknapp situation or just a bad streak, we will never know. Blackburn are in the relegation dogfight, they have showed signs that when they want to, they can match most teams and get results, but with a run of 5 straight losses it doesn't look good. I am not sure why they keep on having behind the scenes issues, the most recent was Givet, but if they are focused then they should be able to get something from this match. A point would not be a disaster, as Bolton didn't help themselves yesterday but when you look at their remaining fixtures and who they play, this has to be their best option to secure points. With Chelsea piling on the pressure today and them having the CL trophy in their sights, you would wonder how that is going to affect the Spurs players? Do they give up on the season with the 4th CL spot possibly becoming void. If the Redknapp situation has affected them, then this wont help either. I am gonna side with a conservative value bet on the Double Chance with Blackburn (X2) @ 3.10 (2/10) PP Obviously as a Spurs fan, I would hope the team give their all until the end of the season but with a price of 1.40 for today's match, its a high risk for a low return.

Re: Tottenham v Blackburn > 29 April Tottenham vs Blackburn Spurs were the definition of sloppy against QPR away. They were giving the ball away and were all over the place at the back. Though they were beaten by a soft goal, there was no denying that QPR deserved their win. With Newcastle's slip up, Spurs should be more optimistic about Champions league qualification. With rivals Chelsea vs Newcastle battling it out during midweek, Spurs can take the incentive to win and take 4th spot. Though they remain underdogs to qualify with Chelsea's potential champions league win, they must fancy their chances. Expectations have certainly been raised at White Hart Lane after the arrival of Redknapp. The Europa league simply isn't good enough anymore. They looked certain to clinch a Champions league spot, but now remain underdogs to do so. Blackburn are in deep shit. Things look bleak for them and they must get a win here. Even if they beat Wigan at home next weekend, they end the Season at Chelsea, and that game will be equally as hard as this. You would feel 6 points is rather thin to stay up. They might even need at least 7 or even possibly 9. Spurs on the other hand also need the win. Funnily enough this suggests that a draw is rather unlikely, but from my experiences the rogue draw always turns its ugly head in situations like this. That is never a valid reason, and should go in the how and not to bet page which I finally tried to finish the other day. However, like Newcastle, Chelsea's qualification to the final really put teams off going for 4th spot. Its not in their hands anymore and can really make a difference to their performance. Though Tottenham are a much better team at home, circumstances change, and with speculation this week about futures of players such as Modric and the manager Redknapp himself after receiving more backing from FA board members, its hard to see them stay should they not qualify for the Champions league. Kean has a nearly fully fit squad to choose from, whilst Spurs have Assou Ekotto out, and Kaboul and Adebayor as minor doubts that should return to the side. Blackburn 9.10 3/10 188Bet Draw 5.50 5/10 188Bet Effectively a double chance at around 5/2

Not a good bet with Kean's tactics today. Shots on Target 0, Shots off Target 0, Fouls Conceded 14, Corners 1 That says it all for Blackburn ! After that performance you would have to say they are doomed.
