Re: England > Boxing Day > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Dec 26-27 A few festive plays... Worksop Town at home to Frickley Athletic (5/6 Corals) Way too good a price to ignore, even if it is under Evs (not my usual territory). For my money, Worksop have what it takes to gatecrash the playoffs after a dismal start to the season. Recent home wins over Tamworth in the Trophy and Hednesford in the league suggest a side happy to mix it with the best. In fact, a 2-3 defeat to FCUM is the only failure in ten home homes games in all comps. Frickley are now six without a win and with Leon Henry and Peter Knox the latest departures it won't get any easier. Cirencester Town at home to Evesham United (6/4 Bet365) A couple of weeks back I backed Ciren at promotion-chasing Oxford City and they returned with a creditable 0-0 (though no money for me). Since then, they've deservedly won at Arlesey and pushed Stourbridge all the way in a 2-1 defeat. Home form isn't great but has included league and cup wins at home to Leam and a draw with Hemel in the last three: for my money, this isn't a team that will be bottom for long. The side is stronger than it was two months ago, with injured bodies returning and even long-term absentee Jody Bevan not far away. Evesham United have been better away from home and under new boss Matt Clarke will be keener than usual, and he's been busy in the market bringing some new blood in (or, in the case of Neil MacKenzie, some old blood). The debutants didn't really help on Saturday against Chippenham, when they were rolled over 4-2 at home, but Evesham have plenty of time to get out of trouble; it's just not the right time to be trying to bed in six or seven new bodies against a side that is slowly turning the corner. Leatherhead away at Horsham (13/10 Coral) I subscribe to the idea that Horsham are getting better, despite a run of just two points from a possible 30. They were very unlucky to return from Canvey empty handed and put on a good show at Carshalton. At home, though, they have been very poor, as sides have been able to pick them off almost at will as they overcommit - 0-1-9 is the season's record. They will surely get wise to what sides are doing sooner rather than later, but there are solid reasons for backing Leatherhead in this one: as we've said on this thread before in the past couple of months, Leatherhead are in a false position and at times are capable of matching the league's best (a 3-0 cup win at Billericay springs to mind). Wealdstone's Richard Jolly was commenting last week how Leatherhead probably edged the game against his side last week (a 1-1 draw). While they are not dependable, and while Horsham are getting better, I think 13/10 is a generous quote about the visitors. Concord Rangers away at Canvey Island (13/5 Bet365) This feels like it has draw written all over it, but there is enough of an improvement in Concord recently to suggest they can get something more. They've a decent attacking portfolio of players and they seem to have thrown off their early season dismal form, showing something of the bright attacking play that marked their promotion to this level. Results haven't been entirely convincing, though they have won at Hornchurch in the cup and taken Billericay to two 0-0s. Last time out away they deservedly won at Lewes. Canvey's form is okay, but as I wrote last week, the recent wins were a fortunate one at Wealdstone when they were under the cosh and losing until the home side suffered a sending off, and a late 1-0 triumph over Horsham. Canvey are probably favourites but in a derby I'd want to be on side with Concord at anything over 2/1. Mickleover Sports away at Stocksbridge Park Steels (9/5 Bet365) I didn't take Mickleover at home to Ashton last week, though they were well worth a point and in truth should have won. It's too early to say that the days of heavily conceding are over, but the signs are that the signing of Emeka Nwadike as a defensive midfield screener is a decent move, and with some key bodies (hopefully) returning they look in decent nick. Chris Willcock is in charge now at SPS and he's been doing okay, though it is no wins in four. I think 9/5 is generous about Mickleover.

Re: England > Boxing Day > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Dec 26-27 Not a bad day - Mickloever and Ciren were failures, but there was a last-gasp win for Worksop at skinny odds, and much easier wins for Concord and Leatherhead at some lumpy odds- shame none if the winners' prices lasted more than a few hours after posting on here.
