When I went to Riga last year I flew with http://wizzair.com/ from Luton and stayed at http://www.radissonblu.com/elizabetehotel-riga which was pretty good! :) Basic flight at the mo 30 Nov - 5 Dec is £75, Hotel Elizabete is sold out, maybe email Unibet and try to see if you can get a room at the players' hotel? I would avoid at all costs a cheaper hotel which would be 2-3 km away as you can find decent options centrally. Check this page (I've used it plenty of times without problem). The Avalon at 160 eur for 4 nights w/ breakfast is also a great option, well located and very modern. I have been in december and it was -20%, thick snow. The baltpark isn't that far from the royal casino. Both are out of the old town. I prefer to stay in the old town as you are close to restaurants etc especially if the weather is bad. But you would have to get a couple of miles to the royal casino. Theirs a trolly service which runs from about 100 metres next to the hotel and goes into town past the Royal Casino. Taxis arn't that expensive but you have got to watch for overcharging. However it can feel colder and can get as low as -25c. You are going early December. I have been late December when it was -20 and thick snow. You need to make sure you have something for your head and some gloves The biggest problem i found was going from warm bars and hotels out into the street when the temp can really hit you. The lats about 1 to a pound these days. Quite a wide range of restarants in the old town. several quite good pizza places.
