Carlisle 3.55 Horsham Lad 0.75pt EW - 10/1 WH Impressive in a hunters chase last year and has won 2 pointers this season. Paddy Brennan booked and he seems unexposed on handicap debut. Difficult race, but I'd be surprised if this horse isn't better than his mark. Just hope he is fit after a break. Carlisle 4.30 Attaglance 0.75pt EW - 11/1 Boyle Won two novices last year and then finished 2nd to the classy Russian War. Flopped on latest start, but possibly that run came too soon. Still unexposed and has won after a break before, so I'm gonna have a nibble. Not such a strong race as it seems on paper and I have my doubts how well handicapped the two joint favs are. I think they might flop and a horse underrated in the market can take this race. Hopefully it will be the selection.

Re: Jump Racing ~ 20th Oct 325 Carlisle: Gulf Punch EW 10/1 Boylesports Good competitive card at Carlisle today and many southern trainers making the long trip, this race is interesting with fancied runners from Tom George, Kim Bailey and Oliver Sherwood, however i'm siding with Donald McCains Gulf Punch, the 4yo filly was rated 109 last season and was mainly a solid consistent type in juvenile hurdles, the switch to the McCains immediately saw him take advantage of a dropping mark with a win at Cartmel over 2m6f, the furthest she had ran. Went up 10lbs for that and next time looked liked the winner two out at Sedgefield but weakened to finish fourth in a fair race for the track. Still 9lbs lower than her mark last year i'm sure there is another win the locker at some point and with Henry Brooke taking another 5lbs off this shorter trip on a testing track may be about ideal. 10/1 is too big in my view and worth an EW bet at least. 500 Carlisle: Our Mick EW 10/1 Bet365 Terrific novice chase here with three or four very useful hurdlers making their debuts. Twiston-Davies sends up Frascati Park, he is a quirky customer but very talented all the same, often front runs and thats hard to do around here, not very big either. Aikman has always been a chaser in the making and one or two of his hurdle runs last season were very solid including a class 2 race at Huntingdon. He also likes to be up with the pace so this could be a battle and could force errors from these novices. Lucinda Russel runs Bold Sir Brian who won the Grade 2 hurdle at Kelso at a big price but showed that was no fluke when winning back at the course later on. He was out of his depth last time at Aintree and now looks high in the handicap hence his switch to fences. With a fast pace looking certain it may pay to rely on Our Mick, he was impressive at Hereford and a good second to Backspin at Bangor last season and although didnt reach the heights of his opponents this has always been his future and at 10/1 looks the value bet in a cracking race. I think he can go on and make a useful chaser one day.
