Over the past few years, Geraghty has emerged as very much a jockey for the big occasion and in recent weeks he has enjoyed high-profile wins on Moscow Flyer, Kicking King and Macs Joy. He is eagerly looking forward to teaming up with Essex when the Michael O'Brien-trained five-year-old takes on 21 rivals in the two-mileLeopardstown feature, live on RTE Two and At The Races. Geraghty said: "Essex is a very good ride to get. He showed good improvement on the Flat last year to win the Irish Cesarewitch and although he lacks a bit of experience over hurdles his formlast season was pretty good. "If he can translate the improvement that he showed on the Flat to hurdles then he will have to have a big shout." Essex, winner of two of his three starts over hurdles, is without a run over hurdles since he finished third behind Cherub and Made In Japan in the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown in April and O'Brien remains slightly puzzled by his position at the head of the market. He said: "Essex is in good form and has been working well, buthe has never run in a handicap so it is impossible to say whether or not he is well handicapped. I just hope the bookmakers have got it right." :beer :beer
