FLAT RACING WEDS 17TH AUG

Recommended Posts

just posting this up early as wont get chance tomorrow : 2.00 york ancient cross 141 face the problem 138 midnight martini 136 swiss franc 135 if the ground remains the same then this should be a good race .....whether the draw will play a part will remain to be seen as some reckon the low draws is better so thats a negative for ancient cross .positive is ancient cross is flying at present putting in fast times of both his 2 recent runs .a low draw bias could play into the hands of face the problem who recently posted one of his fastest times for a long while suggesting he is coming to hand at the right time plenty in with chances in open race but the 10/1 william hill on ancient cross wont last long (most go 8/1) and the 14/1 on face the problem (boylesport ) likewise will go so 2pts win each .i wouldnt be surprised to see sustained support for ancient cross and maybe go off fav? he is lb for lb the best horse in the race so we'll see ......

Re: FLAT RACING WEDS 17TH AUG 2.00 I have all the pace as low - middle here, therefore am focussing my attention on stalls 1-14, discounting likely favourite Ancient Cross who doesn't look like he will have a speed horse to chase with the pace looking to come from srtalls 1,2,7 & 9. Managed to reduce the shortlist to 4. Swiss Franc, although 6 years old, is relatively lightly raced for David Elsworth, and comes here off 2 good runs at Newmarket and Ascot. He's up 6 lbs from his Newmarket win, but he ran extremely well off a slower than ideal pace at Ascot off 94. Will get the stronger pace here with Racy and Strike up the band drawn 1 & 2, and he will be charging home late for Neil Callan. 18/1 is fair considering he is likely to handle the ground, but he may be vulnerable to the improvers. Face the Problem was unlucky at Windsor last time, and is open to plenty of improvement. However, the drop down to 5f, and his lack of success in this type of company is putting me off, making the 12/1 seem a bit tight. Falasteen ran a good second at York over 5f earlier in the season, and comes here off a mark 3 lb higher. He has shown he is versatile with regards to ground, and certainly isn't afraid of big fields. Unlike a few of these, he has shown himself to be a true 5f specialist (a lot of these seem to want a bit further), and he should be there at the death. What's putting me off is that both his best performances this season have come when he has lead, which would surely ruin his chances with so much other pace low. The final one I like is Kanaf is ultra consistent, and ran a very good 5th in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood. Has won over 5f previously, and 95 looks a reasonable mark after his performance at Goodwood. Still on the upgrade. Bets 0.25 pt ew Swiss Franc @ 18/1 0.25 pt win Falasteen @ 16/1 0.25 pt win Kanaf @ 10/1
