Looking ahead to the Yorkshire Ebor handicap I would like to point you in the direction of APACHE who after careful consideration off the current line up in the Ebor he looks to hold a fantastic chance so I assume the public have given up on this horse as he now stands at a 25-1. Ante Post isn’t my thing although some specialise in this but I think Apache is certainly a horse whose done more on the clock than most of the field. LEOPARDSTOWN 29^TH MAY 2011 77 Manaaqeb (8-12) 84₂ Teolane (8-12) 84 Bewitched (9-9) 91 Fame And Glory (9-8) 93₄ False Economy (9-5) 89₃ Strandfield Lady (9-5) 98₁₂ Apache (9-2) This is the results I have from the Leopardstown card on the 29^th of May, the first thing to note would be that Bewitched and Fame And Glory were run at a slow pace and times not indicative of their natural ability hence why Zoffany who was 2^nd behind Bewitched ran Frankel to within a head although flattered the winner Bewitched herself was a well backed Ascot runner whilst Fame And Glory went on to score a famous victory in the Ascot Gold Cup – already we can stamp these times as solid and a card that holds some weight. There seems to be an even enough spread between the weights of the fast times and those of the slow times, I do believe Apache has put up a extremely solid time here and have adjusted some of the pars to get a true indication of his performance; 99₈ – Ebor Par (Still 8 lengths quicker +10lbs) 101₃ – All Age Group 3 Par (Still 3 lengths quicker +4lbs) 101₂– All Age Group 2 Par (Still 2 lengths quicker +3lbs) 102₂ – All Age Group 1 Par (Still 2 lengths quicker +3lbs) Theoretically what I am trying to say that if the Maiden he won on this day was in fact a Group 1 then the time would be well worth of indicating that but with all this you need to have a sense of realism and he’s probably some way of that yet but we know he has the potential to get there and win a big race on his day especially as this is the sort of horse you’d love to have going into an Ebor, a great big stamp of a horse whose loves to cruise off a strong pace. Apache is rated 98 only being dropped 1lb for his Royal disaster, he’s going to have to keep improving to be Group class but I think we have a horse masked as a potential Group 1 performer in the future but he’ll have to do a lot better than what he achieved at Ascot although that’s factored into the price and I do believe after a little bit of investigative work the family do have a favour for left handed courses; Through what his mother and grandmother have produced in offspring (Charroux and Durtal) there has only be 16 wins of which 14 have come on left handed courses whilst the other two were over a straight 6f at Redcar and 8f at Ascot. I do believe he’s worth taking another chance on as I’ve not seen a better candidate on the clock yet although Aidan does have a lovely horse in Quest For Peace who looks a big galloping sort whose going to potentially relish this trip more than Apache but I think the nature of the race would find him out as where Apache looks tailor made.
