Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Bangladesh and Australia players aren't available until after their ODI series which ends on the 13th April. West Indies host a Pakistan tour which begins on 23rd April so I would imagine WI players would be called away prior to that date. Sri Lanka's tour of England begins on 14th May so a lot of their players will only be available until around then I assume. Ditto England players who I guess England will want back around then to prepare for that series.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Right. Not going to go too crazy on outrights in the IPL but there's two I have fancied for a while. - 3pts Kolkata Knight Riders to win the IPL each way @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes [2places, 1/2]) It's rare that I back an outright of this manner with as bold a stake but I have a massive hunch on the Knight Riders here. If you look at their squad, they have struck a great balance between bat and ball and great balance of overseas players and Indian players. They have done great business in the auction with clever signings. Eoin Morgan, Ryan Ten Doeschate, Jacques Kallis & Brett Lee will all play key roles over the next six weeks. If you mix those with handy home players such as Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Jaidev Unadkat you have a decent team. I haven't even mentioned Shakib-al-Hasan and Brad Haddin also in their ranks. They'll be missing for the beginning of the tournament due to their ODI series commitments (along with Brett Lee) but even still, the others will step in with good effect. Looking around at other teams and again I have the impression that Chennai will go well. Mumbai are shortest price with the bookies but I can't be having them at 9/2. I;m not too sure how the two new franchises will play and I'm not feeling Kings Punjab or Rajasthan Royals in all honesty. I think a good case for Kolkata can be argued and there's value here at 8's. Kolkata for me.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 - 1pt Gautam Gambhir Top Tournament Batsman @ 25/1 (via Paddy Power/Sportingbet [4places, 1/4]) Going for another Top Tournament Batsman punt here and it's for similar reasons as last time. For reasons already mentioned in the thread, it's not wise to have this on any batsman who is either Bangladeshi, Australian, West Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan or English as there is a high chance that they won't feature in ALL of the competition. To be honest it doesn't really leave that many options here so I have gone for someone who I think will be there to the very end. I've already said that I think Kolkata will win it and Gambhir, in my eyes, after a very successful world cup will lead from the front. The problem I have with this is I don't know whether the Indian players will be brimmed with confidence after their brilliant World Cup win or completely jaded and worn out. I'm hoping it's the former because if so, Gambhir has a top chance of taking this. He has a decent T20 history. He's hit six 50's from 22 innings with an average of just a shade under 30. He will captain Kolkata too after they made him the most expensive player at January's auction and this is another thing that swings in my favour as he surely won't be dropped or rested for any games. He did fairly decent last time but he didn't have the opportunities with the Delhi Daredevils as he will with the Knight Riders. He also wasn't in as good form as he was back then as he is now so I will play that he does well here.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Great minds bigmac. 1.5pts ew Kolkata Knight Riders to win IPL4 8/1 Ladbrokes (1/2 1,2) Not a lot more to add to Bigmac's assessment of the KKR's and I've previewed them elsewhere so I'll keep it pretty short. Decent blend of Indian's which is massively important and a good mix of overseas players who can offer something different on each of the wickets. Gambhir isn't a bad captain and Dav Whatmore's a very astute coach. With Eden Gardens inspiring them I expect the KKR's to have a decent season in IPL4.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 4pts Mumbai Indians to win IPL4 @5/1 with BetFred Fairly decent sized bet for an outright here for me, but this was a simple choice imo. You can make a case for any side in the IPL due to their foreign players being X, Y, and Z. Truth is that with the limitations etc they lose importance in the grand scheme of things unless they are true matchwinners, purely due to the fact that there are so many good foreign players in the tournament. Therefore IMO you have to back the side with the best/greatest number of decent Indian players. For me that is clearly Mumbai here. Tendulkar, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Rohit Sharma, and Murtaza are all very good players and should be automatic selections in this side. Crucially, 3 of them are bowlers which is another advantage. You then have players like Rayudu and Suman who have decent experience in this format now and have performed well in previous years. This gives you a very good base even before you include the foreign players! Even in that department, Mumbai are stacked with talent. Pollard is the best t20 player in the world period. Malinga is arguably the best bowler in the world, and is incredibly tough to get away at a decent rate - especially when on song with the yorkers and slower balls. These 2 are likely to be missing at some point, but Mumbai still have decent cover with players who will be available all tournament. Anyone who follows t20 worldwide will know all about Blizzard and Davey Jacobs - both quality in this format. Andrew Symonds can potentially be a matchwinner providing he's still got it. Monster hitter on his day as we all know. Henriques, Franklin, Fernando, and McKay are are all also decent players on their day. Just seems a huge pool of talent for Mumbai to choose from and I see them going very deep in this competition. Tendulkar, Jacobs, Sharma, Rayudu, Suman, Symonds, Pollard, Bhaji, Munaf, Malinga, Murtaza The above could well be a potential lineup, and if it is then it will be very tough to beat.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 1pt e/w 1/4 odds 1-4 Davy Jacobs top tournament runscorer @50/1 with Ladbrokes. This could well end up being a waste of a bet, but at these odds it must be taken imo. Davey Jacobs is a big hitting opening batsman who has performed well in t20 competitions. He is playing for Mumbai this competition and could perhaps open the batting with the genius that is Sachin Tendulkar. Normally with Mumbai, Sachin is to try and bat through whilst people at the other end have a go. This could play into the hands of Jacobs who will score runs quickly. There is always the chance that he may not play due to the restriction on foreign players, but if he does then this price is absolutely massive. He finished 2nd in the top batsman for the champions league t20, so if he gets a consistent run of games this price could end up looking huge. Another advantage for him is that he should be available for the whole tournament. He has stated his desire to open with Sachin so will hopefully bring his best and give this bet a shout.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 1.5pts ew - Chennai SuperKings to win IPL 2011 - 6/1 Coral (1/2, 1,2) I think CSK have a head start on other teams due to the fact they have kept virtually the same side as previous seasons. As a result, they will need no time to get accustomed to one another which will allow them to get some momentum which other teams who are settling in may not be able to do. In MS Dhoni, Raina, Vijay and Ashwin they have four excellent Indian internationals who are shoe-ins in for every game. They have also made some astute signings in Dwayne Bravo (although not sure about his fitness?), Faf Du Plessis and Tim Southee. Throw in the likes of Bollinger, Mike Hussey and Albie Morkel into the mix and you have an excellent side who have the advantage of knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses very well. For this reason I'm quite happy to back them to defend their IPL title. 1pt ew - Top Bowler: Pragyan Ojha - 25/1 PaddyPower (1/4, 1,2,3,4) I backed him in last year's edition in which he won this same market and I'm more than happy to do the same again at an identical price. Pragyan Ojha is an excellent left arm spinner who excels in this format, he had 21 wickets to his name in IPL3 and 18 wickets in IPL2 so he clearly enjoys this format. He is still playing for the Deccan Chargers so he will be comfortable in his surroundings. Additionally, being a spinner, there's always the liklihood of some cheap wickets as batsmen feel the need to take them on. Some bookies go as low as 16/1 for Ojha so at 25s I'm more than happy to take a punt on him to do the business again.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 I'm not sure on Bravo's fitness either mate but I assume he's still injured and he'll disappear to play for WI halfway through anyway. Bollinger is definitely out with injury though :ok. One more for me. 1pt ew R.Taylor Top Tournament Batsman 40/1 Stan James (1/4 1-5) Ross Taylor arrives at the IPL in decent nick having been 12th highest scorer at the World Cup despite having 3 innings less than a lot of those above him in the runs list. I reckon this is his best format to bat in. A lot of the grounds used for this tournament are quite small and we've seen him clear most of them in past seasons for Bangalore in this competition. He's around for the whole of the tournament and fits into Warne's aggressive style perfectly. He'll bat at 3 or 4 and I expect him to go very well. Generally Taylor's a streak player. He'll go on a long streak of poor form then when he's in good form he'll go through a long streak of good scores. Given his explosive and at times devastating batting I think 40/1 is way too big and I'm happy to have a pop at that price.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Another outright before the off this afternoon. 1.5pts ew Z.Khan Top Tournament Bowler 18/1 Stan James (1/4 1-5) Zaheer Khan has just finished as the joint top wicket taker in the World Cup and there's no Afridi around here. Admittedly he took the most wickets because he made the final but I don't think you can rule out the RCB's making the final in this tournament either. 18/1 is a big price for someone of Zaheer's undoubted class. It's my belief he's the best limited overs bowler in the world. I guess his price is so high because Nannes and Vettori will get some of the Bangalore wickets but I like that in two ways. Firstly Zaheer will take the new ball and bowl at the death so he's bowling at the times where cheap wickets can be picked up and also batting sides may not get much joy in terms of scoring runs from Nannes and Vettori so they may try and take risks against Zaheer which can prove to be a batsman's downfall. Zaheer is such a clever bowler that I really do think he'll take plenty of wickets in this tournament and 18/1 looks a more than acceptable price on him to take the most wickets.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 A few more outrights. 2pts S.Marsh Top Kings XI Punjab Tournament Batsman 3/1 Bet365 I like Shaun Marsh at the top of the innings here. Adam Gilchrist will go hard at the bowlers from the get go so Marsh can play himself in before he gets jiggy. Marsh was easily the top scorer in the first season of the IPL as a Punjab player and the season in SA and injuries last season have denied him another crack at it. We saw when he played those couple of ODI's against England at the start of the year that he can still cut it at this level and even though I don't like taking overseas players in these markets as they are often rotated, I think Marsh will play enough matches to bring this one in. I don't see a major Indian threat to Marsh apart from Dinesh Karthik and he'll be well down the order so I'll have the Aussie here. 1pt P.Patel Top Kochi Tournament Batsman 6/1 Skybet Parthiv Patel has been a major player in the IPL for a season or two and I think he can go well at the top of the order for his new club Kochi. Mahela Jayawardene leads the market here but with Sri Lanka's tour of England beginning before this tournament finishes I just wonder exactly how many games he'll play. Brendon McCullum is entitled to go well but with Brad Hodge in the squad as well as Murali, Smith and Shah among others I'm not sure how many matches McCullum will play given that Patel can keep wicket. There's a couple of Indian dangers to Patel in Laxman and Jadeja but at the top of the order is always the best time to bat so I'll have a small punt on Patel to top score for the new franchise here. 1pt J P.Duminy Top Deccan Tournament Batsman 6/1 Skybet JP Duminy is a very talented batsman and I think Deccan will use him well in this tournament. I think he's guaranteed to play more often than he isn't because he offers a spin option as well as a vital batting option. This Deccan line up is very much short of an Indian batting option to score well over the course of the season so with Duminy batting fairly high up and with Sangakkara maybe not there all season due to the Sri Lanka series with England I can see the South African all rounder top scoring for Deccan this season. 2pts I.Pathan Top Delhi Tournament Bowler 10/3 Skybet Irfan Pathan is another who has had his fair share of injury problems but he'll want to put that behind him and have a good tournament here to force his way back into the thoughts of the Indian selectors with tours to the West Indies and England coming up over the next 3-4 months. Pathan has taken 15 wickets in both Indian series of the IPL and that's a decent return on a Mohali wicket which isn't conducive to bowlers. The Feroz Shah Kotla will probably suit his swing and bowling style a lot better so I would expect Irfan to go well here. Morne Morkel represents a tough danger to Pathan but Delhi aren't blessed with quality Indian bowlers so at over 3/1 I'll take the all rounder to lead Delhi's wicket taking this season. 1pt P.Chawla Top Kings XI Punjab Tournament Bowler 4/1 Skybet Piyush Chawla is a very good spin bowler and we saw in a couple of the World Cup matches how he can pick up cheap wickets with his leg spin. Chawla took 17 wickets in the first version of this tournament when the Punjab side went well overall and took 12 wickets last year when they were little better than awful. Under the aggressive captaincy of Adam Gilchrist who skippered Shane Warne on the odd occasions for Australia way back when, I think the aggressive leggie can take plenty of wickets in IPL4. Praveen Kumar looks a good signing for the Punjab mob but they've lost Sreesanth and Brett Lee so Chawla's task of taking the most wickets for the Kings XI looks a bit easier than in previous seasons and at 4/1 I'm happy to be on him.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 A speculative outright quickly before the start. 0.5pts ew - Top Tournament Batsman: SS Tiwary - 100/1 Bet365 (1/4, 1-4) Saurabh Tiwary burst onto the stage in the IPL for Mumbai last season and impressed everyone with his powerful batting style. So much so that he was an expensive purchase for Bangalore this season. He is a big hitting batsman who will bat in the top 5 possibly even at 3 so I don't see him being a 100/1 shot at all. He was the 8th highest run scorer last season so that shows he can mix it with the big boys so I'm hoping he can go a few places better and sneak a place this year at a huge price.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 One for today. 4pts R.ten Doeschate's Performance Pts - 29&Over 5/6 Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 20pts per wicket. This line looks a bit low here for someone with the all around qualities that ten Doeschate has. We've seen for Essex in England that he contributes fully in all 3 facets of the game and he was one of the better players in the recent World Cup carrying Holland along with him. That showed he can compete at this level and in a format that suits his aggressive game I think he'll go well in this. An average day with bat or ball would bring this in but then there's genuine potential of catches as well. RTD has 3 solid scoring methods here which makes 29pts look very low so I'll take the overs here.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 And one for the first match today. 4pts - Chennai v KKR OVER 9.5 sixes - 5/6 Skybet This is a cracking match to begin the tournament with and both sides contain some huge hitters of a cricket ball. With players like Yusuf Pathan, Raina, Dhoni, Vijay, Morgan as well as some others who can hit a long ball when they want to, the overs is surely the way to go. Additionally Chepauk is generally a run scoring ground as long as its not turning square.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011

This was the only other outright I was even contemplating to get on ahead of the IPL. I was actually thinking to have a go on Piyush being the Top Tournament bowler but was put off by the fact that he plays for Kings. 5.00 is a nice price on him being his Top Team Bowler though so I'll play with 1pt. Looking ahead of todays match though and there's not a great deal that is shouting at me. I think Kolkata are slight value at 2.32 but have them outright so won't be going there. Will look to see how both teams go and see how the wicket plays before getting involved. Best of luck to all involved.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 6 points KKR to beat CSK at 6/5 with Bet365 Huge price here imo on what is essentially a 50-50 game. Can't help but feel that this is priced up a little on previous years' form. KKR have made some quality signings as alluded to in some of the outright picks here. A batting lineup consisting of Gambhir, Kallis, Morgan, RTD, and Pathan is capable of troubling anyone. The bowling is potentially a weak link, but overall as a side they are more than capable of troubling Chennai who will be missing Bollinger, Hussey, and Bravo. At the odds KKR are certainly the value play here.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Fantastic match to start the IPL earlier on today, cannot believe KKR didn't close it out in the end after seemingly cruising at more than one point in the match. Dhoni seems to be able to do no wrong at the moment and what he did to run out Pathan was fxcking amazing. If the tournament will be anything like the match today it's set to be serious tournament. Feeling a few bets for the two matches tomorrow so I'll be back in a bit for those picks.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 One for the early match tomorrow: - 7pts Under 10.5 Sixes @ 8/11 (via Paddy Power) Didn't really want to get involved in big plays early on but I'm looking at these two line-ups here and I'm struggling to see eleven sixes. Deccan line up with a completely new squad and to be honest it's not really packed with many explosive hitters. The players that will probably do the most damage from both sides tomorrow will be Sanga, Lumb, Dhawan, Duminy, Taylor & Dravid. My knowledge of the lesser known Indian players isn't fantastic but some research into them has led me to believe again that there aren't many massive hitters in their ranks. Even from the players listed above you would say Lumb, Dhawan and Duminy are the only ones that could clear the boundaries naturally. The bowlers don't help matters either. We all know that Ohga and Mishra are the two most successful bowlers in IPL history whilst Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma, Shane Warne and Shaun Tait could all prove difficult to score off. To be honest I was even contemplating going at Under 8.5 sixes which can be had at 1.91. Will play a touch safer and go with the higher line. I know you can't really compare but today I would've thought there would be quite a few with especially with the personnel on show. There wasn't. I expect the first games to be fairly tight with teams looking to ease into T20 cricket, don't expect massive amounts of maximums especially with the players that'll line up tomorrow. Fingers crossed I don't get shat on.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Nice start to the IPL. Eight sixes earlier on so +5.04 for the tournament first up. Tomorrows first match promises to be a cracker. I get the feeling that the match will definitely be decided by the bowling attacks because there is mad talent throughout both the batting line-ups. I'm pretty sure the previews on the PuntersLounge homepage is written by Kevshat and I agree with what he says about the 1st Six Overs probably going the Daredevils way. I am steering clear of that though and only going in with one. - 5pts Over 9.5 Sixes @ 5/6 (via Paddy Power) Sehwag. Finch. Warner. Ingram. Tendulkar. Davy Jacobs. Symonds. Rohit Sharma. Pollard. I mean, any two of those names above come off tomorrow and this is bish bash bosh thank you very much money in the bank. AB De Villiers showed today that anything in the wrong areas will get punished and all of the above have the class to despatch anything that comes their way. The bowling that is expected isn't too strong either. I'm a big fan of Morne Morkel and he should line up tomorrow and can be effective in stemming the runs for Delhi. Having said that though, Delhi will probably have Pawar, Pathan, Agarkar and a few others bowling the remainder of their overs and that's a problem for them. They can all go. Mumbai have a fair amount of seam available in Munaf, Malinga, Dilhara Fernando etc but I don't think they'll all play. Harbhajan should bowl and Symonds may even chip in with a few. They're not exactly renowned for being water-tight so I'll play there's a few maximums in this one. The Feroz Shah Kotla isn't overly massive too. India played Netherlands there in the World Cup where 189 played 191. There were still seven maximums. Kenya played Canada again with both teams scoring under 200 and there were five. Fancy Sixes here. Ten of them minimum.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Cheers. Only going with one on the second mach tomorow. Slightly fancy unders again on the 6's but will avoid. - 5pts Kings Punjab XI +2.5/15.5 Runs (vs Pune Warriors) @ 4/5 (via Sportingbet) Both teams are effectively new teams here tomorrow with Pune being a new franchise altogether and Kings having pure changes to their squad. I'm not feeling Pune though and I'm definitely not having them at 1.66 at a ground that's never been used before. Kings aren't the greatest side ever but they have a good captain in Gilchrist and a solid side in Marsh, Chawla, Kumar, Karthik and Harris. Pune has talent don't get me wrong but Yuvraj as a captain? Not feeling it at all. From what I've seen of him in his element at the World Cup, he seems way up his own ass and too introvert to be an inspirational/motivational captain. I don't think Kings are THAT bad of a side to be priced so badly tomorrow and I think the match will be closer than the odds suggest.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Just the one for me tomorrow. 4pts Delhi Highest 1st 6 overs vs Mumbai 11/10 Blue Square I like this bet because although both batting lineup's are packed with power hitters, they aren't in the same place in both lineup's. Delhi will have Sehwag, Warner and Finch in their top 3 all of which hit the ball a long long way. Mumbai are going to go in with Tendulkar who can pierce the field but won't go too aggressive while Jacobs, if indeed he is Sachin's opening partner will be playing in his first IPL and may take a bit of time to get going. Mumbai's big hitters in the form of Sharma, Symonds and Pollard all come in at number 4 and lower. Admittedly the bowlers in the opening 6 overs may suit Mumbai because they have Malinga but we have seen him hit in recent matches and he's liable to dish out some helpful wides. Morne Morkel isn't the worst option up front for Delhi though. When he's on form Sehwag is impossible to bowl to and add to that Warner who sees the ball and hits it out the park and I think there's enough to suggest Delhi shouldn't be odds against to win the 6 over match.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 5pts Mumbai most 6s vs Delhi at 5/4 with B365 Think there is value to be had on this line tbh. Market has priced Delhi as favourites presumably due to the destructive nature of Sehwag, Warner, and Finch - understandable on the whole. Mumbai however have some big 6 hitters of their own in Pollard, Symonds, and Sharma. Chuck in Jacobs if he plays and Tendulkar (hit few in the world cup) and you have plenty of players who can clear the ropes. The reason I feel that Mumbai have the edge here is more so their bowling. Malinga, Harbhajan, Munaf Patel, Pollard, and Murtaza/Fernando is full of international experience. Delhi on the other hand only really have Morkel and perhaps Pathan who you can class as 'money' bowlers. Personally feel that Mumbai have the edge in both the batting and the bowling and will hence be taking them to outhit the Daredevils today. If Pollard comes in up the order this bet could be won by one man alone.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Great call on the sixes yesterday bigmac. -4 for me with the sixes bet in the very first match failing to materialise. One for the opening game today though. 3pts - K Pollard 38pts & over - 5/6 Bet365 I thought Pollard got into some nice bowling form in the world cup and that can help him cover this line today. He bowls nice lines and length with clever changes in pace which can deceive the batsmen particularly in this format. His batting is very much hit or miss but 10-15 minutes of KP and we are virtually there with this bet. Overrall for a guy who has 3 genuine scoring methods, you want to be on the overs.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 I'll take the Daredevils here who have won the toss, elected to bat and have an explosive opening partnership. Suggestion is that wicket will turn later on so hope they can post a total that the Indians will struggle to chase. 3pts @ 6/4 William Hill Agree with Kev too on the highest first 6 overs.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Kings XI Punjab to beat Pune Warriors @ 13/10 Bet365 Not many 'super star' names in the KXIP line up, however they do possess a decent core of Indian players, Karthik is a decent bat, Kumar and Chawla have plenty of international experience too. Marsh and Gilchrist aren't the worst options up top, Dave Hussey is decent in this format with bat & ball. Yuvraj opens up against his former side here, he's in great form however, along with Uthappa potentially dangerous. Graeme Smith is their too put was woefully out of form during the world cup, Jesse Ryder can hit a big ball but can be inconsistent too. Just think KXIP might be more solid overall and for me are the % call at the prices against the new franchise in their IPL debut.

Re: Cricket: Indian Premier League 2011 Delhi's woeful batting display has scuppered a lot of bets. One for the Next game though. 4pts - Yuvraj Singh 40pts & over - 5/6 Bet365 Yuvraj is a player in form and on top of the world right now having had an excellent world cup. With the bat, he looks like in the kind of form that gave him the title of being one of the world's best limited over batsman. And with the ball he has come along greatly picking wickets regularly. He is also back to full fitness so he's fielding in the vital positions such as point where catches come regularly. Overrall I'm confident Yuvi can continue his rich vein of form and cover 40pts in this game.
