Apprentice/Conditional jockeys - something to bear in mind!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that many of our more experienced members already know this, so please forgive me for telling you what you already know, but apprentice and conditional riders have seperate licenses. Apprentices can claim until they have 95 winners. Conditionals can claim until they have 75 winners. Upon winning their final race at any weight category, they can continue to claim weight for a further three days. I think that's quite a significant discrepancy between the two licenses and it may certainly influence someone's bets. Jockeys lose apprentice or conditional status if they are 26 or over. I hope someone finds this interesting.
