    Manchester United vs Brighton
The Red Devils were anything but impressive in pre-season, and, no doubt, new boss Erik ten Haag faces an uphill task in the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign. As always, a man to watch in the home team will be Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, while Christian Eriksen will likely make his EPL debut with Man Utd against Brighton. 24-year-old Argentine center-back Lisandro Martinez completed a £47m move to Old Trafford earlier this summer to rekindle with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, whom he played under for three seasons. The home side fans hope for a good start for their team, and we’ll see whether the Red Devils can meet expectations in this match.
The Seagulls, on the other hand, are eager to claim a major scalp on Matchday 1, but they will have to do it without key midfielder Yves Bissouma, who signed a deal with Spurs in the summer. Left-back Marc Cucurella may not be available after it was claimed that he is due to move to Chelsea for a fee exceeding £50 million, although the club has denied reports. Neal Maupay had a successful season behind him after scoring eight goals, and many teams are interested in this guy. Poland international Jakub Moder continues his road to recovery from a cruciate injury.
    Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction
Manchester United should stop its decline and enter the new campaign confidently. Although Brighton is a tricky opponent, the Red Devils should keep the perfect record against this opponent at Old Trafford and celebrate a victory in front of their fans.
    Goals Market Prediction
The crowd at Old Trafford saw goals in both nets in three of these two sides’ last four encounters. We expect another efficient game, and neither team should keep a clean sheet.

    West Ham vs Manchester City
Much more at ease than the previous year when they had come close to relegation, this West Ham team perfectly raised their heads in 2021-2022 to avoid any further scares. Better still, the Londoners were able to steal 7th place in the standings, allowing them to play in the preliminary rounds of the Conference League. The Hammers want to sneak into the top four with Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, and Flynn Downes joining the squad in the summer. There are no injury worries in the home team ahead of the season opener, meaning that David Moyes is going to field the best possible side. Michail Antonio has been the main player of the Hammers, and in the Premier League last season, he scored ten goals and assisted his teammates eight times.
Manchester City begins their title defense with a match against West Ham United at London Stadium. Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Oleksandr Zinchenko are no longer parts of the team, but the club chiefs did well to sign Norway superstar Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window. Kalvin Phillips is likely to make his official Man City debut against the Hammers as well, while Aymeric Laporte remains on the sidelines with injury. Riyad Mahrez scored 11 goals last season and hopes for even better performances in the new season.
    Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction
It is going to be an entertaining clash since it won't be easy for the defending champions. Nevertheless, we expect them to show dominance and win by at last two goals.
    Goals Market Prediction
Both teams were involved in many high-scoring matches last season, and this one shouldn't be much different. We anticipate goals in both nets in this encounter.

Goodwood 1.50 The 2022 Glorious Goodwood meeting kicks off with a highly competitive 10F class 2 handicap which has attracted a maximum field of 18. There’s sure to be hard luck stories here in such a size field but let’s try and find the most likely winner and hope it’s not us finding the trouble! A key piece of form is the John Smiths Cup run at York 17 days ago won by Anmaat. That form was doubly franked at the weekend by success’s for the runner up Achelois and 4th Spirit Dancer so the 5th and 6th from that race Brilliant Light and Just Fine have to be given maximum respect. Saeed Bun Suroor’s Brilliant Light finished a length ahead of Sir Michael Stoute’s Just Fine but is 2lb worse off. There shouldn’t be much between them and both hold major each way claims. Roger Varain’s Legend Of Dubai was backed down to 7/2 favouritism at Royal Ascot but ran a stinker and although he’ll appreciate this longer trip has questions to answer now and represents scant value at his current odds. I do like the look of the William Knight trained, Harry Redknapp owned Moktasaab who won at Newbury and here over course and distance (from Caradoc who re-opposes on 7lb better terms for 1 1/4L and should run well though is hard to win with) earlier in the season before not handling Epsom and then failing to see out the 1m 4F trip at Ascot. He looks each way value and I’ll be backing him each way as well as Brilliant Light who I just favour over Just Fine.   MOKTASAAB 1 point each way @ 12/1 Coral 12/1 1/5th 12345 BRILLIANT LIGHT 1 point each way @ 7/1 bet365 1/5th 12345   Goodwood 2.25 A field of nine assemble for the group 2 Vintage Stakes with the warm favourite Karl Burke’s Holloway Boy who made a winning racecourse debut in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. Not many horses have made a winning racecourse debut in the juvenile races there over the years and he’s a worthy favourite. The only issue I have is that the form hasn’t really worked out. Six horses have run from that race since all have been turned over. Maybe he just won a bad renewal of the Chesham? At around 2/1 I don’t want to pay to find out and I’m happy enough to take him on. I have respect for Charlie Hills’ Galeron who’s course win last time out was boosted by the runner up winning well at Newbury last week. Charlie and Mark Johnstone’s Dear My Friend is stepping up in grade following victories at Carlisle and Beverley and with the stable winning this with Dark Vision in 2018 is another interesting runner. I’m going to stick with the boys in blue though with the Charlie Appleby trained Mysterious Night who followed up his Newbury win in June with a high,y credible 3 1/4L 3rd in the group 2 July Stakes behind smart sorts Persian Force and Show Respect. That form may be good enough for him to take this.   MYSTERIOUS KNIGHT 2 points win @ 4/1 William Hill   Goodwood 3.00 The 7F Lennox Stakes is up next with a decent enough field of eleven heading to post. The favourite is the William Haggas trained filly Sacred who will take plenty of beating. She ran a stormer in the group one 6F Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot to finish a length 5th behind Naval Crown having not had the clearest of passages close home. She’s two from two over this trip and should be hard to beat on her favoured fast terrain. I can’t have last year’s winner Kinross as he prefers to get his toe into the ground whilst Pogo, who comes here chasing a hat trick, is nought from three here in the past. Lusail brings some good classic form to the table for the Richard Hannon stable and should be thereabouts but I can’t resist a tiny each way saver on outsider Sir Dancealot. When trained by David Elsworth he won this very contest in 2018 and 2019 and although he’s now in the care of the more than capable John Butler at Newmarket showed last time out in a handicap off of a mark of 103 that he retains plenty of ability. This really though is Sacred’s to lose with Tom Marquand doing the steering.   SACRED 3 points win 2/1 William Hill SIR DANCEALOT 1/2 point each way @ 50/1 bet365 1/5th 123   Goodwood 3.35 A quality turnout of nine stayers assemble for this year’s renewal of the Goodwood Cup run over two miles. Last year’s winner Trueshan has been declared but surely won’t run unless there’s rain. If the heavens did open he would be a strong fancy and a clear favourite but that’s highly unlikely and it’s odds on that he’s pulled out on the morning of the race unfortunately. The story of the race (meeting?) is the John and Thady Gosden trained Stradivarius who’s won four Goodwood Cups (he was pulled out last year due to the wet ground). This will be his final run and it would be great to see him go out on a winning note with or without Frankie Dettori who’s been jocked off the grand eight year old by his owner Bjorn Neilsen following a couple of poor rides in the last two Ascot Gold Cups. He does have a major chance today but just may struggle to beat the four year younger Aiden O’Brien trained Kyprios who is a progressive lightly raced stayer who looks all set to win plenty more staying races. He won the Ascot Gold Cup last time and the drop back half a mile shouldn’t worry him too much as he does have plenty of speed as well as stamina. The others all have plenty to find with the big three (two if Trueshan comes out) although Coltrane seems to be rapidly improving for some reason at five years of age and shouldn’t be totally dismissed.   KYPRIOS 3 points win @ 13/8 William Hill   Goodwood 4.10 Fifteen speedsters go to post for this class 2 5F handicap. Celsius has won at this specialist track and although up 5lb for a recent win at Newmarket (Dusky Lord 1 1/2L back in 4th and now 5lb better off and Night On Earth a further place and 3/4L back and now 7lb better off) can run well here as I thought he did it quite cosily that day and conditions will be ideal. He should run well (as should the pair that were just behind him that day) but I’ve a fancy for John Quinn’s seven year old Lord Riddiford who’s the each way bet here. He was a comfortable winner of this race last year on soft ground, coming home two lengths to the good from stable mate El Astronaute off of a pound higher mark. He lost his way a bit since but showed some promise last time at Doncaster to suggest his time is near. I am a bit concerned by the fast terrain as it was soft last year but he does have winning form on good to firm and at a double figure price he’s worth a go.   LORD RIDDIFORD point each way @ 14/1 bet365 1/5th 1234   Goodwood 4.45 ITV surprisingly include this fifteen runner two year old maiden in their coverage. Charlie Appleby has a decent bunch of juveniles including another smart looking pair winning at Ascot and Newmarket last weekend and saddles Mischief Magic here. He has course experience having run over course and distance on his debut in May when third beaten 6 1/4L to the smart Royal Scotsman who’s run third in the Coventry since. The runner up that day has also won since as has the 4th Show Respect who’s also run a fine second in the group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket. Even the 5th Galeron and 7th Alif Power have won making the form of that race very strong. With William Buick on board he looks the one they all have to beat. There are dangers mind you with the William Knight runner Chartwell House just touched off at Windsor last time the pick of them. With the Appleby two years old in such fine form though and his form working out so well it’s hard to look past their runner here.   MISCHIEF MAGIC 2 points win @ 10/3 bet365

I don't support big bets but I agree with what aldric says too. And as long as the loss doesn't affect waggy's life and family, he can afford the loss, it's up to him what to do. I do hope everything will go well again like waggy usually recovers whichever way he chooses to do, stop betting or going back to winning ways.

I never read anything the original Potus (now under the name GhostLetter) posts Aldric. The thread has been really poor and is now time to call it a day. I have had worse periods than this over the years and always recovered. Luckily in these hard times I have no problems but it feels insensitive to post what must seem like rather large losses. I assure you that it is causing me no concerns at all.

Thanks Gooner. The loss of £20 a week was in my mind sustainable and this was funded for a ten year period. As I've lost over half of the total in six months things will naturally have to change. This run of losses has been poor and to be frank very embarrassing. A new approach will be needed, and implemented, to try and make this a ten year thread instead of a one year one. I've been betting for over half a century and luckily it has caused no problems. Hopefully this thread will recover in time and be profitable in the long run. Time will tell.

Hope you are well Waggy but time to end this soon? Martingale system never works and I feel the only way you will be able to recover this is for you to try and slowly double £5k or something but that obviously comes with a lot of risk.

Ascot 2.30 Today’s card kicks off with the 7F Chesham Stakes, a listed contest for two year olds. We have a very warm favourite in the Aidan O’Brien trained Alfred Munnings who made a big impression when winning at Leopardstown last month. The 4th has won since although the runner up has been soundly beaten since. He’s obviously held in high regard and will be hard to beat although on what he’s achieved so far is short enough in the market. John and Thady Gosden saddle a trio of runners in Alzahir, Faisal Road and One World and all are open to improvement following a single run. At the prices I’ll take a chance with the Richard Hannon runner Dark Thirty who’s win at Newbury last month has been franked since by wins for the runner up and third. He looks a big price to me and can be backed each way along with Crypto Force, an Amo Racing owned colt trained by Michael O’Callaghan in Ireland. He won a strong Curragh maiden at the beginning of the month, a race in which the well touted Aidan O’Brien runner Auguste Rodin was an unlucky loser. Again he’s a nice price and can be backed small each way although as I stated earlier the most likely winner is the favourite who I would be loathe to lay.   DARK THIRTY 1/2 point each way 20/1 Paddy Power 1/5th 123 CRYPTO FORCE 1/2 point each way 12/1 William Hill 1/5th 123   Ascot 3.05 The 7F group 3 Jersey Stakes has attracted a nice field of fifteen three year olds and has an open look about it. Charlie Appleby saddles the favourite in Noble Truth who looked good when winning a listed contest at Newmarket in April although surprisingly he’s been gelded since. Saeed Bin Suroor’s Monaadah made all to beat Audience at Kempton on the all weather this month and is another runner with a chance here. In an open contest I’ll take a couple against the field each way. Firstly the Henry De Bromhead trained filly Star Girls Aaimal who is lightly raced and ran a stormer in the Irish 1000 guineas last time when finishing 4th (hampered a furlong out and the run can be marked up) beaten 6 1/4L to the smart winner Homeless Songs. That form has been boosted since by the runner up Tuesday winning the Oaks since and the 6th Purplepay winning a group 2 in France. She’s my main play although I can’t resist a small each way saver on German raider Rocchigiani who’s recent 1 1/4L runner up in the German 2000 guineas to William Haggas’s Maljoom was franked when he was an unlucky loser in Tuesdays St James Palace Stakes.   STAR GIRLS AAIMAL 1 point each way 8/1 William Hill 1/5th 1234 ROCCHIGIANI 1/2 point each way 12/1 BetVictor 1/5th 1234   Ascot 3.40 Only eight turn up for the group 2 Hardwicke Stakes run over a mile and a half for four year olds and upwards. It sees the re-appearance of last seasons Irish Derby, St Leger and Arc third Hurricane Lane. He’s top class and can win this especially if the forecast thunderstorms arrive although recent forecasts are now suggesting they won’t be turning up until after racing. If the ground doesn’t ease it wouldn’t be a shock were he to be pulled out as the Arc De Triomphe is the ultimate target this season. The Gosden’s Mostahdaf was firmly put in his place by Bay Bridge last time at Sandown and wears first time cheek pieces here stepping up in trip. Broome is a consistent sort and along with Solid Stone and Third Realm are feared most but this is all about Hurricane Lane who I expect to win if allowed to run.   HURRICANE LANE 3 points win 8/11 William Hill   Ascot 4.20 27 go to post for a fantastic renewal of the group one Platinum Jubilee Stakes. Run over 6F of the straight course for three year olds and older. The Australian runner Nature Strip won the Kings Stand on Tuesday in scintillating style and his stablemate Home Affairs looks the one they all have to beat here although at around the 2/1 mark hardly looks value in such a tight knit sprint. And don’t dismiss Aussie 2nd string Artorius who by all accao7nts is more than capable of running a big race. American Wesley Ward is having a week to forget but runs his Campanelle here who has won at the Royal meeting for the last two years and is a definite player. I’m hearing good things about William Haggas’s Sacred and although she hasn’t run this season can run well as long as the rain stays away. She will be part of my staking plan along with John Quinn’s Highfield Princess who shocked me with the ease of her victory in the the group 2 Duke Of York Stakes last time. A winner of the Buckingham Palace Stakes at the meeting last year she seems to be taking off now despite her age and she is a tasty price in a race where stakes are best kept small.   HIGHFIELD PRINCESS 1 point each way 14/1 bet365 1/5th 123456 SACRED 1/2 point each way @ 14/1 Coral 1/5th 12345   Ascot 5.00 A maximum field of 28 spread right across the track in the Wokingham Handicap run over 6F is up next. James Fanshawe’s Fresh has an excellent record at the track with form figures of 21234 with the last four coming in big field handicaps including when runner up in this contest last season. He would appreciate any easing of the ground and can be competitive. Blackrod comes here in good form having won at Newmarket in April and despite a 9lb rise in the weights is another for the shortlist for sprint specialist Michael Dodds. Top weight Rohaan shouldn’t be dismissed either. This will be the first handicap he’s contested since winning this from a 3lb higher mark and although soundly beaten last time has the services of Ryan Moore today. As you would expect it’s a tough call but the front two appeal most and I’ll play both each way with additional places.   FRESH 1 point each way 8/1 BetVictor 1/5th 123456 BLACKROD 1 point each way 10/1 bet365 1/5th 134567   Ascot 5.35 Yet another tricky handicap with the Golden Gates Handicap run over 10F for three year olds only. The favourite is the George Boughey trained Missed The Cut who like many here is making his handicap debut. He’s done little wrong in his short career and should go close. Charlie Appleby saddles a brace of runners in Blue Trail (last seen smacking William Buick in the face on Derby day!) and Falling Shadow who’s been gelded since winning his maiden at Newbury last month. Buick has chosen the latter but both have claims. Another Godolphin owned runner is the John and Thady Gosden trained Honiton who bolted up at Sandown in a maiden last time and although this will be a lot tougher can make his presence felt. I’ve been very impressed with Missed The Cut and although he’s relatively short is the one I want to be with James McDonald in the saddle.   MISSED THE CUT 1 1/2 points each way @ 4/1 William Hill 1/5th 12345   Ascot 6.10 The getting out stakes is the 2m 5 1/2F Queen Alexandra Stakes. The ground is the key here because if the forecast thunderstorms turn up and ease the ground then surely Trueshan who’s a monster when the conditions are in his favour will be hard to beat and go off more of an odds on chance here despite a 10lb penalty for his two group one victories last season, the Goodwood Cup and Prix Du Cadran both run on soft ground. He’s unbeaten in two starts at the Berkshire track and worth backing now as if the ground doesn’t ease he will no doubt be pulled out as he was on Thursday for the Gold Cup. Last year’s winner Statum is back to defend his title and looks a bit over priced although he doesn’t appear to be in the best of form since despite a novice chase win last December. Dermot Weld’s Falcon Eight went off a 7/4 favourite for this race last year but was unsuited by the softening of the ground and ended up well beaten. He would be the bet here if the rain stays away and Trueshan is pulled out. Wordsworth is the other contender at the front of the market with claims but it’s Trueshan for me if the ground eases.   TRUESHAN 2 points win 6/4 bet365 If NR FALCON EIGHT 2 points win 11/2 bet365
