DUBLIN, Jan 10 (SW) – According to speculation, Walsall assistant manager Steve Staunton is set to be unveiled as the new Republic of Ireland manager. It is understood that the Football Association of Ireland have met on several occasions with Staunton, proposing that he take over the team with a mentor figure in support. The FAI are said to favour former Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson for the role, but it is yet unknown whether he would be willing and able to commit to the role. Staunton is the Republic’s most capped player, having represented his country on 102 occasions. Walsall boss Paul Merson has backed the appointment, previously saying: “He is respected in Ireland and I think the fans would want it. “I’d back him. Everybody who plays football would love to manage their country one day, so, if it came along, of course I’d let him go. No worries about that.” The former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Coventry player would replace former manager Brian Kerr who was not awarded a contract renewal after the Republic’s failure to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany.

theres certainly some potential though with a bit of thought and knowledge to back up selections and pick the best. :clap good work lads!... all in all, a mixed bag with the selections highlighted as 2-0 wins. Out of the ten selections there were five correct = 50% so again no great shakes there.What was rather pleasing though, was both the predictions outlined as 3-0 wins, both won, Peterborough and A C Milan to give a 2.17 double for those who took this.It appears to me that in the few short weeks the 2-0 system has been tracked, it's been a wee bit erratic to say the least, one week excellent and the next week just as poor or average. I think that I will track only those predictions which are 3-0 and above for this coming weekend, and see if there is room for improvement.;) -

the bet will stand now as its been accepted (and people may've already followed) but its another example of why I ask for discussion in the relevant thread BEFORE posting here. Can this be discussed in the relevant thread and repost here what the overall feeling is for the neutrals. thanks kevshat :okPersonally I don't think this is a dead cert at all. He hasn't just got to win these 3 matches to qualify for the World Championships he also has to beat Barry Hawkins in March to qualify. Hawkins could definitely give Ding a match. Add to that the fact that Ding lost to Tom Ford in the Grand Prix qualifying and David Gilbert in the Malta Cup qualifying who are both unknowns even to many inside the snooker scene let alone outside of it makes it far from certain. The longer matches should help Ding but these qualifiers can be like the FA Cup where strange results happen. -
