  1. Re: England > Antepost > Conference Premier League 2013/2014 Just a few words about Wrexham. Sorry for the delay but things have been a bit frantic at home and work. Unlike Luton, who have been getting further and further away each season, we have been getting closer and closer (the statutory kevshat dig by bb comment!). Each season, however, the squad appears to be weaker than the previous season and the causes a slight concern as we approach the first match day. The suqad from last season has lost some big players, with Riley returning to Mansfield and Danny Wright following the money to FGR, to fight for a place with ten other strikers. Even though Wright was our top scorer the bigger loss is Riley, who was class in defence. Surprisingly the manager also released player of the season Chris Westwood, his centre back partner, supposedly because of financial reasons to stay within his budget. The decent signing we have made (in fact one of only two signings!) is Andy Bishop from Bury, who is a decent striker at this level. We have also taken a young lad called Bailey-Jones, a tricky winger who, with Cieslewicz, means we may finally have a plan B of 4-4-2 if 4-3-3 doesn't work. We have trialled a couple of defenders because, at present, we probably have only one fit first choice centre back, as Mark Creighton, having missed last season with a ligament injury, has a minor calf strain to get over. On the positives, however, despite some of his antics we have the asset of Mayebi back between the sticks (although Chris Maxwell ws a cracking replacement and Cambridge have got a decent keeper for the first half of the season). Having seen plenty of other keepers in this league he is by far the best keeper at commanding his box and is never afraid to come for a cross...something that other keepers struggle with. Our defence plays well with him behind them and, once Creighton is fit again, we probably just need one signing (CB or RB) to be as good as last season definsively. Midfield...somply the best in the division bar none. Keates is out injured at the moment but may struggle to get back in when fit. Harris, Thornton, Clarke, Hunt and Evans, if I ignore our two wingers, is perm any three from five. Most of you reading this will know of at least three of those but I reckon few of you will have heard of Rob Evans. Trust me, he is going to be something special and possibly even this season. In pre-season he has played holding midfielder and creative midfielder and taken to each role as if a natural. One to watch. Forwards? Well, Bishop replaces Wright but we are probably still light and need one more in. I don't want to see Mozza pull on the boots unless desperate times arrive and every forward is injured. I am still hopeful of Ogleby coming good as his early promise at the start of last season was ruined by playing on with an injury, hopefully now sorted by a closed season operation. Last season we probably had a squad weaker than the one before, but we won a cup and, if Ormerod had stuck his golden chance in the second half away in the play off final I have little doubt we would have gone up. The only way I ever back us antepost is in the head to head with Luton and Kevshat but, with the core of last season's successful squad still together, I certainly expect us to be top 5.

  2. For me the two teams who will be fighting it out at the top this season...Match up on the first day..BARNET v CHESTER...Both teams have new blood rolling in' date=' with money too boot!, They are both good enough to win this league.......18/1 BARNET CORALS....CHESTER.....14/1...bet 365...1/4 odds first 3....Long season, but worth it I feel.[/quote'] Can I ask if you are a Chester supporter? To my eyes Chester's league odds aren't value in comparison to their first day opponents, let alone others. Sent from my HTC One X using PL Forum
  3. Re: England > Antepost > Conference Premier League 2013/2014 We have signed Andy Bishop on a two year deal from Bury. A direct replacement for Danny Wright and he has already played in the system, having been on loan with us last season, when he scored 2 in 4 games. I saw him in three of those games and am happy with the signing. Certainly decent at our level. Hopefully the international clearance won't take 5 or six f'ing weeks this time! I will do an full preview for you nay-sayers writing Wrexham off nearer the time!

  4. I hope Thurrock do succeed. The fine for the player was imposed because his Sunday team folded and all of his team were fined. He didn't know of the fine. Why can't there be a central register for all secretaries to check in this day and age? It is also interesting to compare this punishment with that meted out to West Ham with Tevez (fine) and Watford (transfer embargo they easily circumvented). In relation to Luton's new striker from Hull, he played for Stockport at ours last season. He was standing on our goal line as a shot was about to go in. He decided to help it in from six inches and the goal was ruled out for offside! Sent from my HTC One X using PL Forum

  5. Re: England > BlueSQ Bet Prem, play-off semi-finals Apr 23-24, 28

Guys' date=' does anybody knows who will be the referee for this clash between [b']Wrexham and Kidderminster? You know, I noticed that usually refs do not show too much of cards in play-off games. I guess it would be an interesting approach to take Under 3,5 cards for 1.83 on bet365.

  6. I wont keep on about it but I still think a lot of people here are underestimating the need to win factor. Even the bookies are. Motivation is absolutely everything at this stage of the season. Just look at Hull tonight and you will see the difference. In the case of Mansfield it applies even more because Hull do have a little room for error Mansfield dont.
The comments of Steve Bruce after Hull"s goalless draw tonight. "The dressing room is disappointed. We knew this was an important game for us all but we haven't handled the occasion." Sent from my HTC One X using PL Forum
  7. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Apr 20 Right, let's look at the Mansfield-Wrexham game, and not with a preconceived view that, just because a team will need a win, it will get it done because teams like Carlisle have done it in the past. That past from other seasons and other teams is irrelevant but, if it was relevant, by the same logic as Carlisle, Stockport would be a value bet beat Kidderminster in order to stay up and Kiddy would be certs to beat Stockport! Mansfield have to win and the odds properly reflect the state of the two teams at the moment. Wrexham's leading goal scorer is now out for the season and that is reflected in the odds. However, on the upside our defence is likely to be strengthened by the return of Martin Riley as CB. Midfield we will be missing Keates and Thornton (the latter being out for the season as well). We do, however, know how to beat Mansfield and have done it within the last fortnight. This is NOT a meaningless game for Wrexham because, if we beat Mansfield again, there is a chance we could meet them again in the play offs. Kiddy win and go up as champions, Mansfield second and we would probably be 4th (although Grimsby could still overtake us even if we do win). Facing a team, either in the semis or the final, who you have done the double over within the previous month will be a big psychological boost. We won't lie down. Mansfield are rightly favourites but in my view there is no value in backing either team. The other interesting match is obviously Grimsby-Newport, certain play off contenders. Again the same considerations of getting one over a team you could face again, once or twice, within the next fortnight. Again I wouldn't play on this match either, but good luck to anyone who does.

  8. Re: England > Midweek > BlueSQ Bet Prem Apr 1, 3-4

I think Wrexham are favs because they are at home which is probably just about right.
As a Wrexham fan I don't think it is! We were doing ok whilst we were firing in goals from all over the place as it covered up the fact that, apart from Danny Wright, we have no one who is going to get a load of goals. He then stops scoring, as do the rest of the team. Including the FA Trophy final we have only scored 1 goal in the last four games, and that was a penalty. Morrell signed Adebola on loan and, with him, Ormerod and Morrell himself, have 3 strikers in their mid or late 30's. Ormerod was never prolific, Adebola is as mobile as Stephen Hawking with a flat battery, and Morrell spends an awful lot of his time on the floor claiming free kicks that are never given. Since the FAT final he has started Cieslewicz after his barnstorming sub appearance then, but he has shown why he was being left out of the starting 11 in the first place by being inconsistent and appearing, at times on the pitch, uninterested. To be fair to him the pitch is a pudding at the moment though. The sad fact is that we have had forwards in the reserves who have been scoring for fun yet Morrell won't give them the chance. After the final the championship was in our own hands. Now it is pretty much out of sight and I hope he gives a couple of the youngsters a run out (lads called Rushton, Colbeck and Reid). If the starting XI has Wright with any two from Adebola, Morrell and Ormerod then I despair and would recommend a bet on Mansfield as, at the very least, they should be at the same odds as us.
  9. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Mar 23

Interesting matches here...........I will do my "research" and homework on Mansfield - Macca and Southport - Kiddy. One of these two are definitely worth of playing on them' date=' Kiddy seems like sitter and Mansfield seems to edge Macca, at least for now. Kiddy is on fantastic goal spree and practicaly unstoppable, they outclassed Newport at home, and are excellent against top teams. In other match i find very difficult for Macca to score against Mansfield and dont see over 2,5 goals here. Only thing I am afraid are odds on these matches, they are quite low and there are many odds under 2.00, including rest of conference league games. It will be some suprises, no doubt, but i think it s my task to research them till Saturday.[/quote'] I wasn't at the game but every match report I have seen, together with assorted forums, seems to indicate that Newport were unlucky to lose against Kidderminster, whose keeper had a blinder. Why do you say that Kiddy outclassed Newport?
  10. Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Mar 4-7 I may be looking at playing on Southport turning over Cambridge. The away team, who had won away at Tamworth, steadied their ship further after four previous defeats with a draw at home to FGR at the weekend, and Southport grabbed a draw against a somewhat rejuvenated Dartford, who were been helped by the return of Harry Crawford on loan. It originally looked like a no bet but I notice that Cambridge's top scorer, Michael Gash, has gone to aid Kiddy's fight for the title. In those circumstances I think a play on the home team at a generally available 2.3 looks ok

  11. Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Feb 11-13

fancy Stockport to beat Lincoln tomorrow good odds 11/10 battered Wrexham on saturday in the 2nd half 3 clear pens not given a team with renewed hope and vigor that comes with a new manager won 2 out of last 3 gotta be worth a punt right?
Not sure about the three clear penalties bit, but you did play a lot better second half than the first and are definitely in a false position. I think any price odds against is worth a punt...more so if you get a decent full back!
  12. Maidenhead is off, but amazingly barrow v Gateshead is on although apparently it is raining heavily in Cumbria. Seen a picture of Gatesheads ground and it has massive puddles all over the pitch. Sent from my HTC Desire S using PL Forum
I would guess they will try and play the Barrow game even if they have to wear wellies. No rain in Wrexham yet, despite the forecast, and no inspection planned. Sent from my HTC One X using PL Forum
  13. Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 28-29 Four times this season Wrexham have played Southport and have won all of them. Goals for, 11; goals against 2. We have won by at least two clear goals on each occasion and won 4-1 in the FA Trophy, at Southport, on Saturday. By rights it should have been by more. Despite that you can get Wrexham, with a -1 handicap at better than evens with most bookies and Boylesports are offering 4.33 Wrexham giving up a 2 goal start. The -1 is a bet and -2 a sporting play for a bit of fun, but not recommended as a bet.
