  1. Re: WSOP Update I think raymer last year was a very deserving champion...... OK so he won a lot of coin flips, he also caught a few cards in some pots. ANYONE who wins a large MTT has to win their coinflips along the way and almost certainly will have caught a few cards at key times - it doesn't change the fact he is a great player. I saw a documentary on him once where he talked about card couting at blackjack for 10 minutes. These 10 minutes alone really impressed me as he clearly knew his stuff about pro gambling in general - also came across as a decent bloke (unlike arieh who came across as a total dick :lol). Moneymaker on the other hand - people slag him off and I agree he is not as good as raymer HOWEVER..... If you remember the 2003 WSOP there was a key hand he played with dutch boyd very deep into the tournament. Both him and boyd had very large chip stacks in relation to the rest of the table. Moneymaker raises preflop with 33, boyd flat calls with KQ. The flop comes 10 6 4 (or some equivalent...three overcards but no paint). Boyd checks and moneymaker makes a decent bet. Boyd then check-raises all in (for all money makers chips...if he folds he still has a large stack). Moneymaker thinks for a while before telling the dealer "keep em low" and calling, turning over his 33. You have to give him credit for this - almost all of us would fold in that spot and you would probably be lying if you said otherwise, not only did he make a read that was spot on he had the balls to risk his whole tournament and a great position on it. His 33 held up and that gave him the chips he went on to win with. Boyd looks sick afterwards and can only muster a "that was a hell of a call man". Yes he gave out some sick outdraws - noteably against ivey with 10 players left - but that call on its own is one of a world champion IMO. Anyway onto this years tourney...it is hotting up nicely and they are into the money DANIEL IS STILL IN THE TOP 20 NOW WITH 580,000 CHIPS - GO ON MY SON!!!! Jez

  2. Re: You make the call - POCKET ACES Parts 1 and 2! George in hand 1 the decision is basically whether or not to call the 40 bet or fold (you could cehck-raise I suppose but...) In the actual hand I did check and the guy bet 40...the question is what to do now (UTG folded I forgot to put that in the hand...it came back to me and me only) Jez No worries about the 23rd mate btw....its always a good game

  3. All right.... Two real hands I have played on cash tables, one from a couple of nights ago, one that sticks in my mind from a year ago. Both times I am holding AA....would like your opinions here. Hand 1 Absolute poker 1/2 NL - 400 max sit down (yep double buy ins on AP!) ------- I have AA and raise a fair bit in mid position, called by someone who limped UTG originally with about 150 on the back and called by the button who has around 200, I have them both covered. FLOP : J J 5 rainbow. Hmmm not the greatest I think, decent chance someone has a jack. UTG bets out a tiny amount - I think he would check with a jack here but I still dont want to get too involved so I just call. Button then flat calls as well. Turn : 9 It's a total blank really, but then any card apart from an A is going to be (a 10 or Q or K might make someone a full house but if they were playing J10 QJ or KJ they are beating me anyway obviously). Again UTG bets out a minute amount (2 dollars into about a 50 pot) and again I just flat call, I really fear I am beaten by the button but such a small bet is too much to pass up - the button flat calls along with me again. River : Q Well that changes just about nothing.....UTG checks, I check and the Button bets 40 into the 60 pot. Your move? Hand 2: VC Poker 2/4 NL : 300 sit down - I have about 400 infront of me as does the villian. I pick up AA UTG and make it 20 to go from the off (standard raise on these tables). I'm flat called by the villian who has a lot in front of him. He's shown himself to be an ok player, probably does well for himself but from his chat I think he has too high an opinion of himself and does not realise when he was to blame for losing a hand. Moderately tight player so his range of hands are limited. Flop : A J 10 rainbow Now this is not a bad flop by any means - top set!. I dont have the nuts by any means but I can easily house up, I dont want to give a free card here (A K or Q coming off would be disgusting) and I think checking would make my hand obvious anyway, so I bet 50 (around pot size). Villian insta moves all in for 400. Your call? Results later after your opinions. Jez

  4. Re: WSOP Update Well after a hard days play they have stopped the action.....9 places before the money... It must be a killer sitting on one of the bottom 20 stacks tonight and going to bed wondering if you are going to get the money/how you are going to play. They just this second posted the official chip counts for all 569 players left on cardplayer and on first inspection it looks like andy has gone :( however lying in 17th place in the whole tournament out of 569 is my good friend of from ladbrokes cruise.... 17 Daniel Bergsdorf 278,600 Chips What a position to be sitting in, there is a long way to go yet but you would be loving it wouldn't you! CMON DANIEL!!!! Jez

  5. Re: PL2 I - The season begins Here are the final placings pl211og.jpgpl2125ow.jpg I will update and start the brand new league table when I am on a better computer (under a week) that can actually paste excel documents into here. The all time money winners will be updated as well although that will not be started afresh, it will be a continually running table that continues from where we left it. Jez

  6. Re: Cruise Final on Ladbrokes tomorrow Well well.... After a night to recovery MrM I hope it's all the sweeter for you when you wake up this morning :clap. Glad I got to see your victory all the way from the start, although I did miss a hand where you seemed to leap from 2k chips to 6k...nevertheless you picked your spots well and fully deserved your victory. In particular I liked your play in the final when you became the short stack, going all in before the blinds hit you definately saved your ass! For those who didnt see the 66 v 77 hand it was even sweeter than a normal outdraw. The blinds were high, we were only a few places away from the cruises and the stacks small in relation to the BB. what would happen is that someone would raise and everyone would fold, it had been going on for the lat 45mins..... MrM raised with 6diamonds 6clubs in late pos and was unlucky to run into and get called by 7hearts 7diamonds on the big blind. This was a bad situation to be in at any time, especially to be all in with. We were all sure he was a goner on the rail and when the flop came 3 high hearts it was even more sure (1 out for MrM provided the other guy doesnt lock it up on the turn as well!). The turn was a blank and the river well...it was the only card in the whole deck that could give the pot to MrM...the 6 spades. The chatbox erupted and from then on we all knew who was going on the cruise :) :) Really hope to see you on the ship next jan mate...all the best. Jez

  7. Re: Cruise Final on Ladbrokes tomorrow FCUKS SAKE This crappy computer I am on with win98 and only 128mb ram (house sitting does these things to you!) cannot handle two microgaming sites at once, it crashes when I try and load your table MrM I will have to wait till I bust from the 365 30k freeroll before I can come and support you then mate but best of luck...and dont be too nervous. JEz

  8. Re: WSOP Update Another of my mates made it through last night..... Daniel Bergsdorf Umea $65,875 A great guy I met on the ladbrokes cruise...he has a decent amount of chips as well, the average is 30k. He never got his seat for as cheap as andy tho, I think daniel told me it cost him 3k :lol Day "2" proper starts tonight with them all in action COME ON DANIEL AND ANDY!!! :hope Jez

  9. Re: Cruise Final on Ladbrokes tomorrow Great result mate..... You can be very tight early on yes...however bear in mind you get nothing for finishing in the 11% and below category so do go for accumulating chips and not surviving...when it got down to 2 or 3 players away from the cruise when I got in I used the big stack to my advantage as a bully. Although of course be careful not to put yourself in danger when you have a good position....its a very fine tightrope to walk. I will come on and cheer you on tomorrow mate...best of luck I really hope you make this :hope Jez

  10. Re: WSOP Update I should have said before...hellmuth very quickly accumulated a lot of chips at the start of the day. Turning his starting stack of 10k into 50k after a few hours play....to be eliminated on the same day is a brutal turn around. Jez

  11. Hellmuth Gone!!! :eek Phil Hellmuth Eliminated Log: Phil Hellmuth had a horrible hour at the featured table. He was finally all in with Ad-Qh against Paul "X-22" Magriel's pocket sevens (7h-7d). The crowd was mixed in their support, with some rooting for Phil, and some against him. (Oddly enough, nobody seemed to be for Magriel, just against Hellmuth.) It was a race situation as the flop came Jc-9h-4c. Hellmuth didn't improve, and was now drawing pretty thin, needing to catch a queen, an ace, or a runner-runner straight to stay alive. The turn card paired the board with the 9s, and the river card was the 5d. Phil Hellmuth, who had an excellent day on Friday, had the bottom drop out after midnight, and was eliminated from the Main Event. As he was leaving, he said to his wife, "That was the worst hour of poker in my life." The way he said it made it unclear whether he was referring to the cards or the players. :eek

  12. Re: WSOP Update A friend of mine from the local casino game has made it through the first day! From pokerpages.com..... "Andrew Gray Aberdeen, Scotland $31,175 " He is a top bloke and a good loose aggressive poker player. I know several people who qualified but out of them all I tipped andy to be the one with the biggest chance to do something. This is mainly because he really doesnt give a fcuk about losing (first hand of the day or if he is 2nd chipleader before the bubble up against the chipleader) and will happily raise people all in left right and centre. The upshot of this is he generally either busts early or wins every chip on the table - just what is needed to have a chance in something like this. He qualified on laddies only a month or two ago for 4 dollars. I will have to check today and tomorrows results to see if anyone else I know personally made it through but COME ON ANDY!!!!!! :clap :clap :hope Jez

  13. Re: WSOP Update Yep...excellent fold it has to be said. He turned up over 2 hrs late apparently, in a limo, flanked by 2 private security guards and a personal section of the ESPN TV crew :rollin As one internet site said - you would think he was turning up for a heads up title fight showdown, not a lotto style 6000-1 gamble fest :lol Jez

  14. Re: PL Internet Poker Bragging Thread Only just seen this today Plow but wow WP mate...a ton of v nice results there, can only do the old bankroll the world of good :ok :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap Jez
