  1. I got a horse Lucky 15 up today with B.etfred in one of their shops. I calculated the returns and went to collect and they paid me less than I was expecting. I assumed it was minimum 15% bonus for 4 winners , I didn't notice they had reverted to 10% on the new slips they introduced very recently.Fair enough its clear enough on the slips when you actually read them. The paid me the bonus on the actual profits and not the whole returns . Is this right ? I hold my hands up and admit i have not gone through their latest terms and conditions in great detail recently. Over the years I have landed only a tiny handful of lucky 15/31s but I'm sure the bonuses were always paid on the whole return because whenever I got one up I'd calculate the winnings prior to collecting. Is this the new way of applying the bonuses and does this extend to all the major firms ? I much prefer Betfred when he traded as Dones when he was truly the Bonus King, now he's just a greedy ****.

  2. Re: Harry Findlay doc from 80s I remember watching it at the time but couldn't recall any of the content, thanks. It reminded me to dig out a week long series shown on C4 shown at roughly the same time, which I recorded on VHS,it featured different topics each night, the horse racing one had a teenage Rishi. Unfortunately when I got it from the garage it was covered in green mould. I'll have a search online and YouTube. And maybe locate them

  3. Re: New Year Resolutions Closely follow more smaller yards especially the gambling stables which like to handbrake. Although I have mostly got it out of my system For quite a few years now ,avoid the following, very low grade races, bumpers, amateur and female only races etc...90% of the time I have my screws very well tightened, however on occassions whey become loose when I have a small succession of losers. More decipline, especially when losing. Stop the casino pit games, I have gone long periods without touching them, then a few crazy sessions which often ends up with me driving home skint. To a lesser extent the FOTBs usually after a lower or 2, not sure why I play them, I never used to play the AWPs. Stick to my staking plan, after a big win I sometimes reduce my stake and after a few losers I on occassions exponentially increase my stakes, sometimes to my benefit, sometimes to my detriment. Not to be greedy and utilise Betfair more often to lock in a profit. spend more time searching for horse racing bets, only had 2 bets this jumps season, King George and Paddy Power Gold Cup, I've missed many winners (and losers of course) by not spending enough time looking at form. More decipline. More live and online poker, the only gambling activity where I make a profit each year guaranteed, it's just them pit games on the way out. A bit more decipline. Land a monster gamble of at least 6 months wages, not attempted in recent years through lack of effort and opportunities, last successful coup was Cheltenham 2003.

1510 kempton 1pt win long run 3/1 whills too big a price at 3s with the sponsors so i have to have it, won this race a couple of seasons ago,and with some doubts over some of the field today, has the form to run a big race,2nd on seasonal debut to the very good silvanicao conti
I don't want to take over the role as the Price Policeman, just querying the 3/1 with Hills. I took some 15/8 about 4 hours earlier online with WH and some 2/1 in a a few shops around midday, how long was the 3/1 available and on which platform? I backed it at 3.2 on Betfair in the morning too, so the 3/1 couldn't have been widely available, not 100% because I didn't have a full read of the Racing Post.
  5. Re: Race in Focus - The Welsh National - Chepstow Racecourse - 27th Dec 2012 : Off This race is called off time and time again, isn't it time the race planners consider moving the date to a part of the calendar which isn't as extreme as Xmas time? I recall landing a monster punt in this race many years, I couldn't sleep the night before, I was in the garden many times checking the state of the ground, despite living 150 miles away.

  6. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I do have a positive outlook , its just that often when I post something negative has happened , I enjoy the sport just as much as everyone else on here , wouldn't it be a boring forum if we said "..well done , great ride.....Daryll Holland , Ryan Moore, Richard Johnston etc etc..." all the time? In regards to winning , of course it is possible to win , you could get lucky or you could put in many hours a day , its totally possible. However in a big percentage of races you need inside information to get ahead. You could spend hours , days or weeks studying a race but if the connections have not given the secret nod your selection may not win. More often than is believed on here the jockeys and trainers are not trying. I have in the past given examples on here of horses/trainers/jockeys and members have done their best to dissect and analyse the examples and responded with 6 page dissertations as to why the race wasn't crooked !! Its like whatever I say some times , members will respond with the opposite. I once said Ruby Walsh does not ride in Irish National Hunt bumber races and then a member responds that he backed him in a bumper the previous week in Ireland and the horse whizzed in !! Anyway my point is , if you don't have inside information it is extremely hard to win. My turnover on horses is about 25 % of what it used to be in the past , I don't mind losing , its all part of the game but when jockeys handbrake horses or don't try for EW placings you slowly realise the game is largely unbeatable . My next bet will most likely be in the King George next week , I find the bigger races are more likely to be less corrupt.

  7. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread It's refreshing to read the posts of Rio2014, who is very pro punter. I've highlighted many deliberate acts against punters in the past and the gang around here for one reason or another often have opposing views. A popular excuse on here is "..animal welfare..." If I say Fergal Lynch or Tony Culhane didn't try they'll say "...animal welfare...why over whip a horse..." Why not send Frankel to the Arc?......"...animal welfare...." Why doesn't R Hughes give 100% each race........."..animal welfare..."

  8. Re: Money Management & Staking Plans

I like place only betting across various mediums like fixed odds , Betfair place and Tote place. I don't particularly abide by by a staking system , I just bet place only with the view to win back some of the losing money on other betting markets such as the win / placepots / trifecta /distances etc. This year like some others I presume has not gone very well , a factor being the wet weather producing unpredictable results amongst others. At the moment my bankroll is used for all types of gambling which includes sport betting and poker. I am willing to put aside 1000 betting units specifically for place only betting with the view to increase it at a steady rate. My current place bet size normally ranges from 10 to 40 units , on occassions when I'm chasing or being greedy I've gone up to 200 units sometimes more which is very undisciplined of me. I've been punting many years and am still learning . What I need is a fresh approach from fellow punters to give me ideas , so I /we can move forward. Obviously I understand punting is results based and I need to pick the right selections in order to succeed but a decent staking plan may prevent me from falling off a cliff. Can anybody help ?
Can anybody help me with a place only betting plan?
  9. Re: kauto star retired

I've only read what was reported in the Racing Post and based on that ' date=' I've found Paul Nicholls reaction to be disappointing. [i']I dont think he should have aired his dirty laundry in public. I have always been an admirer of his achievements but i went off him as a person about 10 years ago when he made derogatory comments in public about Ollie Carter the owner of Champion Chase hopeful Venn Ottery whom Nicholls trained. I think its very unprofessional of him to be denegrating his owners. Obviously Nicholls was disappointed about the Kauto decision but isn't the owner entitled to do as he pleases ? Over the past decade Clive Smith has helped make PN champion trainer and he's repaid by this !
Trainer's lose stable stars and large strings of horses from time to time for one reason or another, whenever this happens its obviously disappointing for the trainer and staff concerned, we have all read about them over the years and whenever we do the trainer always thanks the owner for getting the opportunity to train the horse / horses and best wishes for the future, even if it's through gritted teeth. Other members have hinted he has acted similar in the past, quite frankly his attitude stinks based on what is currently public knowledge.
  10. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

How can you ban a rider' date=' when he has won the race and has also looked out for the welfare of the horse at the same time? That doesn't make sense to me. Grand, if he doesn't win the race, ban him, but you can't ban a rider when he has won the race.[/quote'] Yes banning a winning jockey is what I am advocating, the more experienced the jockey the more severe the punishment, in the example I gave it would give him a good boll.ocking due to his inexperienced but for senior jockeys I would ban them using a sliding scale. Too often we see jockeys not doing their best for punters, they've been getting away with it for too long. Just watch the finish of the example race, looking after the horse doesn't come into the equation.
  11. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread In last Saturday's 2.55 Wetherby the winner was eased up but the jockey 100 yards from the finishing line by 7lb conditional Ollie Garner whilst McCoy was pumping away only a half length download. Obviously he mistook the winning line but on this occasion the horse had enough impetus to hold on. On many occasions it has gone the other way with the rightful winner coming second and copping a ban along the way. On this occasion even though the horse won, I think the jockey should have got some sort of punishment for not being fully aware of where he wasn't at that moment in time. I'd like to see severe penalties when this happens, so jockeys ride out all the time.

  13. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

Conrad Allen has made a comeback recently ' date=' seems he has the backing of a few wealthy middle eastern owners , great to see him back.[/quote'] He's only had a handful of runners and has had another big priced winner today, obviously not enough runs to get an accurate picture of his current M O, but maybe one to watch out for.
  14. Re: The Jockey Thread

Are you implying with the hand braking tag that he didn't want to win? But you're saying the money was down? I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the race' date=' just poor jockey awareness.[/quote'] Jay, what's happened to GeorgeCostanza? Not seen his tips in a while.

Are you implying with the hand braking tag that he didn't want to win? But you're saying the money was down? I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the race' date=' just poor jockey awareness.[/quote'] The handbrake was off and the money was down, just unfortunate about the finish, jockey did as instructed. G Margerson is a very competent trainer who uses full advantage of handbraking techniques, Atavus and Young Mick are prime examples of his skill. You cannot make money from his horses based on form alone as the public are led down the wrong path on occasions, you need the nod.
  16. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

This was pretty obvious though to anyone that has done their homework. Rebecca Curtis had stated that he was being aimed at the Welsh National and if you look at the horses profile, it does indeed seem to come on for the run so to speak. In fact it was that obvious that Im pretty sure the RP commented on it! They are the ones I dont mind as much, because there are decent clues for people who want to look. Its the ones that have already been mentioned in the thread where the result comes 'out of the blue'.
Teaforthree was just an example of a runner prominent in the betting which the trainer knew would not win , it fitted with what was said a few posts ago. No need for the in depth analysis.Bobs Worth wins the Henessey first time out despite concerns by the trainer and jockey a few days before post time.It just highlights the need for inside information as to whether they are trying to win or not.
  17. Re: The Jockey Thread

3:25 Apprentice race. Jordan Vaughn (using the whip twice) being given a lovely tactical ride by Storm Runner' date=' although not being aware of fast approaching Eoin Walsh on Honey Of A Kitten, who overtakes the fav and wins by 1.5 lengths. Both claim 7.[/quote'] Seemingly a good ride on Storm Runner, just unlucky,he did little wrong ,just unlucky. His trainer G Margerson,a master of handbraking as I have said many times in the past must have done his money in on this race, cos the money was down.
  18. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

I quite agree. My issue is that trainers often imply that they've come to a race fully knowing they wouldn't win and have said afterwards that the horse needed to experience race conditions.
I've been saying this for a couple of years on here and everytime we get onto this topic , I'm always shot down by by the regulars. The Rebecca Curtis trained Teaforthree made its seasonal debut in a big handicap and was prominent in the betting and was well beat. In an interview later for a stable tours feature or the Henessey build up she said the horse needs a run or two to get fit and she knew the horse would blow up on its reappearance. Why didn't she tell the betting public before its debut this season ? I think its wrong to run a horse when they expect it it to lose , if I recall it was in the top 4 of the betting of a race with about 20 runners , so a lot of money was bet on it. I'm not suggesting she is bent but its not very punter friendly. I made a similar post when John Gosden said Nathaniel was 80% fit for the Irish Champion Stakes and it was not the main target , the horse was favorite !! I got a bit of stick on that thread.
