  1. Re: Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea > Tuesday February 17th Well it's funny to me that in the press conference before the Caen match when usually all you hear is "all we are thinking about is this match", Blance actually opted for the other route of talking about Mourinho and Chelsea. Firstly he admitted he and PSG had Chelsea on their minds. Subsequently they went on to concede 2 goals in the last 3 mins in Paris after leading Caen 2-0 all match and missing a host of opportunities throughout. I think Blanc is somewhat of a fool who isn't the right caliber to manage these teams. More interesting though, were his comments on Mouriho. He referred to the 2-4 loss to Braford and lamented how if Mourinho exits the cup people label him a genius for giving his club more preparation time for Europe, whereas if Blanc got knocked out of the cup, then he would be called a fool by the press. What does this tell us? Blanc is buying into the hype around Mourinho and is developing a nice little inferiority complex and addressing Chelea in the press conference before the Champions League press conference. This caused the mentally fragile players to let 2 goals in the last 3 mins, this is the sort of mental weakness that this competition punishes. So Mourinho is sitting back enjoying his extended preparation time, has had the psychological advantage absolutely handed to him and all the pressure is on PSG to win. Though he'll never admit it, Mourinho will see a draw here as one foot in the next round as that is the belief they have in their home form against anyone. With the injuries mentioned above limiting Blanc's options and Chelsea having great weapons on the counter attack, I'm leaning towards Chelsea getting something here. Also Chelsea are a great solid TEAM whereas I still see PSG as Ibrahimovic and his 10 disciples. B988VBaIMAAtsSr.jpg

  2. Re: Serie A TIM > February 11th - 15th Not your fault it's Roma's. There's no excuse for that disgraceful showing. How many chances do they want to score against Europe's crisis club who have lost players over wage disputes? 20 ? 30 ? 100 ? and STILL they can't finish. The two Africans were thrown straight into proceedings fresh from the ACON and they looked stunned. Especially Doumbia who hasn't played with these guys before. All midfielders and no strikers in that team. Garcia is stupid. When will the world realise that Llajic isn't the player the media says he is?

  3. Re: FA Cup > February 14th - 16th

Do you think WBA will be going for this? Pulis will have Premier league survival on his mind whereas West Ham/Allardyce have overachieved in the league and can afford to commit more to winning this game. Also after West Ham's embarrassing 5-0 defeat at Nottingham forest in the FA cup last season they seem to be giving the competition some respect. I don't mean this in a logistical sense because WBA have a full week before their game at Sunderland but I think mentally the two teams are coming from completely different places. WHU are freerolling and enjoying their season and will want to plunder more gold here WBA are more focused on survival and will want to pick up scraps in the premier league as they know they have no chance in the FA cup Anyways don't want to seem like I'm criticizing or anything, your picks are great just I have a different take on this game! Cheers gl
Well after seeing the way his team performed against the Swans I agree there are some players in that line-up that Pulis may want to wrap up in cotton wool like Berahino and Ideye. On the other side of course, cop a beating in this match and it may have lingering negative effects on their league campaign. I was going to back West Ham with the +0 AH but they have some important players out now and it looks up in the air for me.
  4. Re: Southampton v West Ham > Wednesday February 11th SOH last 5 away are all wins. Last 5 at home reads 1-2-2. Lost the last 2 home matches with Swansea and Crystal Palace. Why is this? Maybe the direct style with which SOH play works better away from home where they can play compact and then spring forward in their counters. West Ham +1 AH is 1.75 @ matchbook and they are capable of taking points off the hosts here I believe. If West Ham had held on vs Man U at the weekend, would the Saints be odds on?

  5. Re: Serie A TIM > February 7th - 9th Genoa will miss the goals of Matri who is now loaned out to Juve. Also defence wise, Genoa has Burdisso suspended and Antonelli joined Milan. Lazio get Radu and Biglia back who were suspended in the Cesena loss. Felipe Anderson returns from injury who was making the headlines for Lazio as their most dangerous threat up until he got hurt.

  6. Re: Liga de Fútbol Profesional > February 4th - 9th Pepe, Ramos & Marcelo missing. 3/4 starting defence. Not that they are superior than the other defenders but cohesion and coordination at the back is important and more so in a match like this away in a derby. To the diminished defence, add the return of a refreshed Ronaldo who is a goal machine with a good record vs Atleti and over 2.5 @ Pinnacle has to look good. Maybe it's so high because of Atletico's disruptive attrition style. But that applied more to last season than this season as they are conceding considerably more shots and goals than last season. I may wait for the price to climb to 2.30 in play, then lay it off depending on time of first goal. If a goal is scored before price hits 2.3 I won't play it. Hopefully Torres scores early again.

  7. Re: Aston Villa v Chelsea > Saturday February 7th Hopefully Cuadrado features heavily here. In Italy they called him the Vespa for his ability to zip through traffic and if Villa set up with 11 men behind the ball then he's the perfect weapon to find the breakthrough. Can't wait to see Hazard on one side and Cuadrado on the other cutting inside and slicing EPL defences open. I really don't believe there's anything to this Villa central midfield. It has got to be one of the worst in the league. This area of the pitch should be heavily dominated by Chelsea. 8. Re: Australia » Hyundai A-League » 6-15 Feb The second last ditch win in a row for Roar now. The difference is that last week they really outfought and out competed a very good Phoenix team and were good value for their 3-2 win. Tonight however, they were shamefully complacent it seemed by the sedating tempo at which they moved the ball around. They thought they would turn up and collect 3 points and deserved the embarrassment they nearly suffered.

  9. Re: Australia » Hyundai A-League » 6-15 Feb Jets - Roar Apologies for not posting earlier. Took Roar at 2.00 but seems it's around 1.65 now but if you shop around at some asian books you may still find good odds. This post on betshoot sums up everything I wanted to say http://www.betshoot.com/103971-Newcastle-Jets-vs-Brisbane-betting-tips Basically all those players listed for Newcastle which have been culled, are the most important. The owner is an Australian billionaire mining magnate which is lucky as he likes to take big gambles and loses. Now his net worth apparently has become very questionable and this Jets club who is in both an on and off field crisis will be taken over by the FFA. Basically the owner, instead of sacking the incompetent English manager, decided to cull 8 of his best players including the Captain, the top scorer and the marquee signing. As you can imagine, there's a dark mood over that club atm in contrast to Brisbane who started their season in an average but decent way, are starting to get players back and gain momentum again for the second half. They've signed a young Serb striker from Red Star Belgrade though I don't think he'll be in this squad today. "Marcos Flores, Mark Birighitti, Sam Gallaway and Jeronimo have been released, CEO Robbie Middleby and chairman Ray Baartz quit, the club was flogged a record 7-0 by Adelaide United, a player-led coup against Stubbins failed and resulted in five players and three members of the coaching staff being sacked, assistant coach Michael Bridges has walked out and Tinkler’s ownership of the club appears on the brink." A team clearly on the up trend vs a side nose diving down. Though the odds have been cut, considering the gravity of Newcastle's situation, some of you may still see the current odds as worth backing.

  10. Re: Bundesliga > February 3rd & 4th Bayern in recent history romp over Schalke at home. And that is usually without coming off a 4-1 drubbing at Wolfsburg. Di Matteo will be helpless here. Schalke have a home match against direct rivals for a Top 4 spot Gladbach only 3 days later and it may be wise to concentrate harder on that for points

  11. Re: African Cup of Nations 2015 Thread

I guess it was the dodgy looking penalty awarded to the hosts against Tunisia ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31077935
Cheers mate. Considering I haven't seen any of this tourney except 12 minutes of highlights of the Congo derby and 3 mins highlights of Ivory Coast v Algeria I have decided to back Ivory Coast to beat DR Congo @ 1.70 Marathon. The Congo match looked like two sides playing at a very low standard with both displaying some shambolic defending rather than good attacks to warrant 6 goals in the match. Basically DR Congo look a very average team and not technically gifted. When the ball approached their danger zone they looked really frantic. Ivory Coast apparently until now haven't impressed. But I'm counting on all that European experience to punish a defence that at times looked totally asleep. Was that performance against Algeria the catalyst to march on to the title? Bony stepped up it seems and even though I hate backing Ivory Coast as they always throw and upset at you or can concede at any moment, the main factor for me is how terrible DR Congo looked. I saw on soccerway they met in Congo for a qualifer to this which Ivory won 2-1. So that would've been during an international break where the players flew over, got the win with little preparation, then flew back to Europe with their clubs being the focus. So logically this time it's a neutral ground, sudden death, no club distractions, time together and everyone wants it. Has to be a clear Ivory Coast win surely?
  12. Re: Liga de Fútbol Profesional > January 30th - February 2nd Sociedad have drawn 4 of their last 5 matches away losing the other. All 4 draws came against lowly teams battling relegation. The other was a 4-0 defeat at Villareal. Scoreless at half-time then as soon as the first went in, it all unraveled. I think the absence of the diva/diver will free the rest from the pressure of always having to pass to him or else landing on the front page of Marca :lol This gives creative freedom to the like of Benz, Isco, Bale etc. to do their own thing. Pepe, CR7, Modric are out so the second choices should see this a chance to seize the opportunity and endear themselves to the fans. Usually away to the good teams Sociedad get schooled. To jump from 1.18 to 1.6 for an extra goal margin is ok imo. moyes-sky.jpg

  13. Re: Chelsea v Manchester City > Saturday January 31st Don't know why people are saying 8 point gap spells the end of the title race? There's still half a season to go and this is England where any minnow can take points off you. Neither of these teams are going to win every match until the end like Barca or Real. Not a foregone conclusion. Chelsea play the same 11 in every EPL match more or less and maybe in the coming months combined with the European Cup, we'll see a physical breakdown in this side. Mourinho could get away with that at Madrid because in Spain the matches aren't as physically demanding as in the EPL. You don't stop running and you are challenged physically by every team. I agree with some people above who say we are seeing signs of tiredness in the Chelsea players. Jose insists on the same "chosen" players for an important match and now we can see a drop in the performances of Costa, Hazard and Terry most notably. Nothing major, they just aren't as sharp as a few months ago. What will happen in another couple of months at this rate? Mourinho would take a 1-1 if you offered it now to him but no result would really surprise me here and it's a no bet.

  14. Re: Liverpool v West Ham > Saturday January 31st When asked if his team would be fatigued after 120 mins with Liverpool leading up to the Man City showdown, Mourinho said yes the players are tired but tired after you win and tired after you lose are two different things. So here we have the team who lost at Stamford Bridge. Rodgers played his strongest 11, the players gave everything and pushed the league leaders all the way but finally succumbing to a trademark late Ivanovic header (which always seem to be important ones). So they must be physically and emotionally drained after two great battles with Chelsea and the 0-0 with Bolton. West Ham meanwhile had all week to prepare for this, have Downing and Carroll who will be itching for a good display and meet Liverpool just at the right time. --Liverpool's middle two of Henderson and Lucas aren't as good as Song and Noble (Kouyate may return who is a decent grafter) --Crosses into Andy Carroll can cause problems for the back 3 of Skrtel, Can and Sakho. --Liverpool are playing 3-4-3 with emphasis on speed and attack. However this is maybe the most vulnerable system for counters down the flanks. West Ham have Sakho and Valencia who thrive in these very situations where they can attack space and there's always the option of Carroll loitering in the middle. They provide good foils for each other and give West Ham variety in attack. --Hammers are undefeated in their last 5 in all competitions Considering all this, if Liverpool do manage a win, I can't believe they will win by 2 clear goals. So the +1 AH @ 1.84 on West Ham (most books) seems high where even if they lose by a goal, we don't lose money. --Liverpool only have 1 win and 4 draws in their last 5 at home in all competitions. A draw here is profit. :ok Team news Sturridge is in the squad, but first match back I'm counting on him being off the pace still and not starting. Mamadou Sakho injured his back v Chelsea and is a doubt. Hopefully he is out and Glen Johnson plays. Brendan Rodgers upon discovering Daniel Sturridge was fit for a return: https://v.cdn.vine.co/r/videos_h264high/6D446242C61171510905809346560_SW_WEBM_142228410943 408ca0a9edb.mp4?versionId=GAU712ZuaSmaN6h6IhvPS2Ar O_EXx0zX

  15. Re: AFC Asian Cup (Australia) 2015 Also in that third game against S Korea in the group, coach Postecoglu rested his first choice front three who play overseas and replaced them with three A-league based attackers who normally start from the bench. Captain and important midfield screener Jedinak didn't play either. Basically the coach chose to use the match to rotate the squad in a bid to stay fresh for the latter stages and overall you have to say it worked as Australia do look a fit side. Contrast this with Japan who played best 11 every match and looked burnt out by the end. So the bookies know this and it may affect the way they think. Also after the loss to Korea, all the talk in Australia was of how many chances Australia created and how unlucky they were not to convert at least one and how well they played. It was quite a positive reaction for a loss. Bookies have been taking note of this too. Personally I don't have an opinion on the result yet. PS Australia is sweating on the fitness of Franjic who is the only proper right-fullback we have. Who ever may come into that role would be a step down as Franjic is proficient at both attacking and defending down that right channel.
