  1. Colombia are missing their two defensive mids in Sanchez and Valencia. Sanchez in particular has been credited with nullifying Neymar in their 1-0 win and also a while ago given the plaudits for keeping Messi quiet in a 0-0 with Argentina. Important part of the pitch and may swing the run of play heavily in favour of the Argies who have been threatening to hit form in the tourney.

Incidentally that defeat was in the final of the Coppa Italia. Juventus will be taking this very seriously, will field their best team and will be keen to take revenge for that defeat. I know in Italy the Italian Cup is seen as a token cup. But the thing is, the big teams don't take it seriously UNTIL they're in the final. Then it's a chance for silverware like any other and they go for it. Note that it's taking place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome which is Lazio's home stadium. Also that stadium is set to host the Rome derby at the weekend and Lazio have submitted a formal request to the Italian Football Association to have it pushed back 48 hours. The Football Association will consult with AS Roma who are likely to reject the proposal and then the Association will make a final decision. So that is still up in the air.
  3. Re: Liga de Fútbol Profesional > April 24th - 27th Also team news heavily stacked in Valencia's favor seen here: http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/862219/Preview/Spain-La-Liga-2014-2015-Valencia-Granada Granada also have a home tie with Espanyol and an away fixture with Getafe over the next week, two sides with no desperate need for points, sitting in mid-table nothingness. Valencia however are hell bent on jumping back over Sevilla for that automatic qualification spot. Granada don't have a massive squad so maybe they target the other two matches as better prospects for points without tiring themselves here for what is likely to be 0 points. That angle improves the prospect of the -1.5 here.

  4. Re: Real Madrid v Atlético de Madrid > Wednesday April 22nd Psychologically this is the perfect scenario for Atletico. Away from home against their hated rivals, sporting the underdog tag they love, Benzema and Modric two of the most important cogs in the machine out, hungry to avenge the Champions League final loss, and knowing that in recent meetings they have the wood over Madrid. As HastGill mentioned the crowd can get unsettled very easily and I think Atletico will absolutely love playing the villains here and ruining Real's European run.

  5. Re: FC Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain > Tuesday April 21st What a predicament for Blanc. They must score AT LEAST 3 goals at the Nou Camp and have Luiz there in cover for them instead of Silva. :\ Ibra and Veratti give PSG more attacking bite but they would of really liked to have had Silva fit. PSG can certainly score against this Barca defence and more than once assuming they will be going all out attack as there's no time to waste here. Barca though won't need much of an invitation to sweep down the other end and knock in a goal or 2 to kill the tie. I've taken over 3 goals @ 1.70 Pinnacle in a match where at least on paper there must be goals. Like I wrote for the first leg, the attacks are better than the defences here.

  6. Re: Chelsea v Manchester United > Saturday April 18th Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't most of Man U's best performances come at home? I mean I remember their match away to Newcastle where it was only a last ditch Rooney effort to beat 2 defenders and set up Young for a fortunate late winner. Drew away to Cambridge and West Ham, lost away to Swansea but did beat Liverpool. So really Man U on the road are a mixed bag...We know they've won 7 of their last 8 at Old Trafford with the FA Cup loss to Arsenal being the only slip up. So the point is can Man U replicate their home performances at Stamford Bridge?

  7. Re: Paris Saint-Germain v FC Barcelona > Wednesday April 15th I will skip the result where anything can happen if we are really honest and look closely at these two. Goals look more likely to me than siding with a result. Blanc has said that PSG aren't afraid of Barca and that this could be seen from the group matches. He specifically said they can find joy through "quick, direct attacks on the Barcelona defence" which unsettled them last time. I have to agree with Blanc that Barca's defense isn't as good as it's attack and this is rarely exposed because the Spaniards always have the ball and usually score a lot. On the other side of the equation, Sirigu, Maxwell, Marquinhos and Van der Wiel can only hope to stop the Barca attack. Thiago Silva is the only guy in the back line tonight with both world class quality and great experience. Aurier has been playing in the defence recently and he and Luiz are both out. In France it was 3-2 and in Spain 3-1, both home sides winning, so the precedent for goals, BTTS etc is there. PSG have half the starters out but Cavani, Lavezzi, Pastore, Matuidi, Cabaye, Moura combined, can surely net at least once. I will back over 2.5 once it reaches evens then possibly trade out early if early goals fly in. PSG can't be cautious as they know they probably won't win in Spain so they need to get a good result here and from Blanc's comments, he won't be hiding and sitting back in this match. He needs to make it count.

  8. Re: Paris Saint-Germain v FC Barcelona > Wednesday April 15th PSG team news from whoscored.com

    • Laurent Blanc is without key suspended trio Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Serge Aurier and Marco Verratti, which should see Gregory Van der Wiel, Edinson Cavani and Yohan Cabaye start at their expense.
    • Thiago Motta and David Luiz are both injured, which furthers hinders PSG's chances of securing a positive result in this one.
    • Blanc is likely to start with Javier Pastore and Ezequiel Lavezzi in a front three with Edinson Cavani after Lucas Moura admitted he is not capable of playing more than 45 minutes at present following his return from injury.

  9. Re: Australia » Hyundai A-League » 10-15 April

Wellington Phoenix -0.5 @ 4 Wellington Phoenix is undefeated against Melbourne City in the last 9 games, winning 5 and drawing 4. They will have midfield enforcer Albert Riera back. Imo, he is 1 of their unsung hero as he gives the midfield alot of protection. Melbourne City could be abit complacent given that they have already seal a playoffs spot after Perth Glory disqualification. With the kind of generous odds that was offered, I'm willing to play a small play on a outright Wellington Phoenix win.
Also Melbourne Victory and Adelaide both released their bowels into their underwear when they had chances to go clear at the top and lost. Now the Phoenix can go solo at the top if they take 3 points. Must be a source of motivation for the club.
  10. Re: Burnley v Arsenal > Saturday April 11th

I'm seriously considering cancelling Sky. Most of my trading is a numbers game anyway and I don't need to watch. FYI this isn't pocket talking. My money is all tied up in the El Manc Clasico tomorrow so I haven't got involved in much today at all.
Hey Yiddo are you going to trade the overs in the derby too?
  11. Re: Australia » Hyundai A-League » 10-15 April Adelaide - Brisbane Brisbane The implications of the Perth situation are that now a fatigued and depleted Brisbane Roar need only take 1 point from their remaining 4 fixtures to finish ahead of the Mariners and make the play-offs. Brisbane lost away in Seoul to the Suwon Bluewings 3-1 on Wednesday night and now travel all the way to Adelaide on a Saturday afternoon. They will be without best defender Jade North, Brazilian attacker Henrique and fullback Polenz. Also doubts over defenders Donachie and Stefanutto but hard to find news on those two. They also have players that played the full 90 in Seoul and the news of Perth's punishment must feel like a miracle to them. Again they only even need to take a point from their last 4 matches, if the Mariners win all of their 3 remaining matches taking 9 points as the gap stands at 8 points for that last qualification spot. Adelaide Adelaide have won their last two matches which have been on the road. Both were the usual sub-standard performances they serve up when travelling, but they did the right things at the right moments so we can say they deserved their 6 points. It's obvious at home they are a different side that shows more hunger and dominance. The main factor here is that since the Victory slipped last night at home, Adelaide who are 1 point behind the leaders have a great chance to steal the minor premiership by leap frogging Melbourne and Sydney and applying the pressure. Contrast that motivation with that of Brisbane who have just been given an opportunity from the heavens to rotate fatigued players and have a more controlled run in to the finals. They can also maybe focus more on getting the second place in their Asian CL group and progressing there. Adelaide miss their best player Carrusca but still have good central players to compensate like Spaniard Isaias. After this, Brisbane have 3 home games where they can surely get a point. Adelaide last 3 at home: 2-1-0 F 6 A 4 Brisbane last 3 away: 0-1-2 F 6 A 8 Adelaide to win with AH -0.75 @ 1.82 BetVictor

  12. Re: Australia » Hyundai A-League » 10-15 April This Friday night fixture opens the next round of A-league matches and it sees two sides with very differing objectives battle for 3 points. The Jets lost 0-2 at home last week to Adelaide United and their bid to avoid the wooden spoon this season seems to be looking more futile as the weeks tick along. They have been play more solidly in the last couple of weeks than the rest of their disaster season which saw a mass of senior players culled by the owner, but they are still vulnerable to the experience and class of superior sides in this league. The Victory are certainly one of those sides as they sit top of the league on goal difference and are buoyed by their recent 0-3 thumping of Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand. No easy feat as the Phoenix up until recently were the form side in the league and despite their dangerous attack were kept scoreless by Melbourne last week. This will be a daunting trip for the Jets as everything seems to be going right for their hosts and with the return to fitness of wide attacker Barborouses, it means Melbourne have 5 class attacking players fit and firing to slot into the 4 attacking positions. The match should be a celebration that sees Melbourne go 3 points clear and place one hand on the minor premiership before the rest of the league kicks off over the weekend. The 1.30 on the home side offers little value but it’s worth the risk of Melbourne winning by 2 goals or more on the Asian Handicap against a side who make errors in defence and find goals hard to come by. Melbourne -1.5 AH @ 1.92 Marathon bet NB: As I mentioned in some post a few weeks ago, Newcastle had a mass exodus of senior players who were culled by their tycoon owner and now sit bottom. Two of the few senior players who remained were Caravella and Kantarovski. Both these guys perform important work in the centre of midfield and guide the youngsters around. They are both out tonight which strengthens our position.

  14. Re: Chelsea v Stoke City > Saturday April 4th Stoke have amassed 42 points and sit 10th. Their last 2 results have been losses away to WBA and more recently at home to Palace. Maybe we could say if these matches came earlier in the season when their survival wasn't locked in, they may have got points from the 2 games. This suggests the players feel they've accomplished their target of survival and now every position they climb higher is seen as a bonus. This is the worst mentality to have in terms of getting something away to a title chasing Chelsea.
