  1. Re: Tennis - 31 October - 6 November And having 4 involving the men as well today. Roger Federer vs Potito Starace- Under 17.5 games- 11/10 Coral- (3/10) I know Federer has his critics now, as he has slipped down to number 4 in the world, behind Murray now, but I see him being extremely comfortable until at least the semis this week and I fancy him to really undo Starace's game here. I watched most of the Italian's match against Tipsarevic last week, where he took the first set on the tie break, but after missing a break point in the second set, went completely missing and looked completely disinterested for the rest of the match. He has a decent serve which led him to pinch that first set last week, but Federer is better on return, and in the rallies, you wouldn't expect the Italian to win many of the longer points. The H2H says it all, 5-0 to Roger, with the last 3 matches all covering the unders. It's on Roger's homeland, and I'm expecting him here to give the fans something to really shout about. Nicolas Mahut (+2.5 games) to beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez- 10/11 Coral- (3/10) Slightly favouring the Frenchman here after he has come through the qualifiers in Spain and will have been able to adapt to the conditions of the courts more than the Spaniard. The Frenchman has his big serve to keep things tight for the majority, or even pinch a set. Granted he isn't as great on clay as the Spaniard, but interestingly enough he actually beat him on clay in their only previous meeting, so that should bear him well for these slower indoor courts. Lopez has been pretty rotten all season to be honest, and is surely suffering from a lack of confidence. Even though he kept the first set with Melzer tight last week, the Austrian still managed to run away with the second. Mahut should be able to really frustrate him on serve, and not give him much on return. Just fancy Mahut to be extremely competitive in this one. Jurgen Melzer (-2.5 games) to beat Donald Young- 5/6 Bet365- (2/10) This one I'm digging my own grave by backing the Austrian on the handicap, but I do think he might just come through this one with a bit to spare. Melzer hasn't been in any really consistent form for a while now, failing to make it past the quarters of any tournament since the clay season incredibly. But he showed glimpses in his matches with Lopez and Anderson last week, which was encouraging from the Austrian's point of view. Young has had a really good season as we all know, but he hasn't played for a few weeks, and when he did back in Shanghai, he didn't look half the player he has been throughout the season. He was pushed in the qualifiers, then got beaten by Wawrinka, so I'm a bit dubious to what kind of place the American is in right now with his game. Despite Young's win over Melzer earlier on in the year, I'm still favouring the Austrian given he's had some court time recently. Vasek Pospisil to beat John Isner- 5/2 Bet365- (2/10) Taking one dog for the day, simply because I have no idea what kind of condition Isner is in right now. The American hasn't played at all since the US open due to injury, so I'm worried he won't be at 100%, see no way he can be whereas the Canadian has already played 2 matches here this week, in qualifiers against decent players in Roger-Vasselin and Riba and came through both in straight sets, which should give him some confidence. We have already seen recently what he can do the big Canadian. Stuck with Federer over two sets, and gave Lopez a mighty fight at the US open. Think it's worth a small punt here given Isner's lack of time on court, so backing the Canadian to record an upset.

  2. Re: Tennis - 31 October - 6 November Right I'm having two outrights over in Spain. Completely agree with Czech on Ferrer. David Ferrer to win Valencia- 5/1- (2/10 E/W-1/2) Can't add alot to what's been said. Ferrer is the defending champ here in Spain and will want to get some from going into London at the end of the season. The top half of the draw doesn't look too taxing at all, and given the slower conditions of these indoor courts, it suits the clay courters well, so it should very much compliment David's game well. There's nobody in that top half of the draw I see really beating Ferrer this week, and given the bottom half has a few players that will battle it out with eachother, Ferrer just looks to have the best draws on paper and he should make at least the final in my opinion. Juan Carlos Ferrero to win Valencia- 28/1 Bet365- (1/10 E/W-1,2) You can get better odds in other places but I don't have accounts with them. Already spoken about Ferrer and the top half, we have a guy here in Ferrero, who is playing better and better with every tournament, and he looks to be returning to some good form. He already beat Verdasco and Youzhny in Shanghai, showing he can beat the better players now, and has a clay tournament win this season, as well as a semi appearence as well, which like Ferrer, should see him go well on these courts. I don't believe he'll face any major tests until at least the 3rd round, and I'd back him to beat Lopez should play him. Really see him and Ferrer as the stand outs in the top half of the draw, so I'll back Ferrero as well at odds which I really think are over the top.

  3. Re: Tennis - 24-30 October Minimal profit yesterday. Wasn't going to take anything today but getting involved in both finals. Can't believe I'm actually going to say what I am about Cilic, and it involves money :loon Marin Cilic to beat Janko Tipsarevic- 13/8 Bet365- (2/10) Can't actually remember the last time I won a bet involving a Cilic match so what I'm thinking here I really don't know. However, he seems to have been getting better and better in every match he has played this week. Youhzny should have really took him to 3 sets yesterday but Cilic managed to claw his way back into it, and his serve looked pretty handy. None of the usual double fault rubbish, that's when you really know how in form the Croatian is. There was a bit of talk about Tipsarevic having a bit of an injury niggle before yesterdays match. Not sure how reliable that injury is, perhaps not at all as he creamed Bogomolov yesterday, but this will be a much closer match. The H2H is 5-1 in favour of Cilic, with his only loss coming earlier this year, albeit narrowly. Janko is on a really good run, winning his last 8 matches now indoors, but arguably this will be his biggest test today if Cilic shows up and is on song. Odds should be a little more even I think, so the price is good enough for me to bite on Cilic here. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Juan Martin Del Porto- Over 23.5 games- 19/20 Sportingbet- (3/10) Expect this to be a really classy affair. Neither have been at their absolute best this week but against it eachother in a final, it might just cause them to up their games and make this a really good match. We've seen in the past when these guys meet, that they can produce some really pleasing tennis on the eye, with all 3 meetings going over this line set here. Tsonga is still striving for the end of year championships at the o2, whilst Del Porto will still want to prove himself again against the top players in the game. Just don't see either player running away with this, a couple of really tight sets will do it, but this could easily go the distance.

  4. Re: Tennis - 24-30 October Forgot to add... Vera Zvonareva to beat Victoria Azarenka- 2/1 Bet365- (2/10) Hope a sense or good comes out of this one. A lot of talk about Azarenka yesterday in her match against Bartoli, but although she did tank at the end, I still don't think she'll be at 100%, so I don't see why the Russian is so high. She leads the H2H overall 6-4, and should be the fresher of the two girls, so I'll have a punt and hope she takes this one.

  5. Re: Tennis - 24-30 October Small loss yesterday, can't be bothered to find the original post with all the jeremy kyle discussions going on ;) But a small loss of a couple of units for yesterday. Wish Azarenka wouldn't have bothered started playing as she was 4-0 down in the first set, but then wish she would have got it over and done with when she was 2-0 up in the second, but you have to take it on the head with women's tennis. Anyways taking 4 today. Agree with homonculus on Zvonereva, God help us. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (-4 games AH) to beat Daniel Brands- 9/10 Sportingbet- (3/10) Know there has been a lot of discussion about this one in the thread already and initially I was going to take the German on the handicap, but after closer inspection, I've completely gone against that. He has now played 6 matches this week in total, and now I fear he might be just feeling it a bit. Yesterday he was struggling to serve out the match with Darcis, after seemingly cruising all the way through. That was perhaps an early indication of the serve no working as well as it did against Stepanek earlier on in the week. If his serve isn't getting him tons of cheap points, he will really struggle against Tsonga. The Frenchman hasn't looked great, and yesterday he took a while to get going, at least on serve against Malisse, but Malisse is by no stretch of the imagination on the same level as Brands, and for a good chunk of that match, the Belgian was showing his class like we know he can do. Feel today might be different though. Tsonga still has his place in London to make sure of, so he'll be desperate to win this one. This more or less depends on Brands' serve though, it'll either be superb like it has done, or pretty average, and I'm backing the latter after the ending part of his match yesterday. Kevin Anderson vs Juan Martin Del Porto- Over 22.5 games- 5/6 Bet365- (3/10) See no reason why this shouldn't be close for the majority. Anderson was very impressive against Melzer, on the Austrian's home soil, and has been playing well for a while now, and these days, only really gets beaten in tight matches by the better players, on the quicker courts anyways. The indoor surfaces fit big Kev's game well, as it allows him to pick up those cheap points with his big serve, and hard hitting groundstrokes. The wins over Baghdatis and then Melzer should give him some confidence going into the match today. Backed Del Porto yesterday and he was never really troubled against Haas, but like I said, wasn't too sure what kind of shape Haas was in after playing a fair bit of tennis recently. This will be a much stiffer test for the Argentinian. He won't be allowed to dictate most of the rallies, and he shouldn't be allowed to get too much of Anderson's serve, which leads me to thinking there could be at least a tie break in this one, but for the majority it should be tight. Del Porto won earlier on in the year 6-4 6-4, but the South African has improved all year, so I'd fancy him to stick with Juan Martin here. Mikhail Youzhny (-1.5 games) to beat Marin Cilic- 19/20 Sportingbet- (3/10) Backed both players yesterday on the handicap, but the Russian impressed me a whole lot more than Cilic did. The Croatian could have quite easily lost in straight sets yesterday against Seppi, with him starting slowly, and his serve not really being on song for the majority. He has played two 3 setter in a row now, against guys he really should be beating comfortably if he was anywhere near in form. Youzhny was extremely comfortable against Mannarino yesterday, and he didn't have to play extremely well to beat him, which shows he can still go up a couple of gears if he needs to today. I actually think his past few matches have been perfect warm up for the Russian this week. Stakhovsky, Benneteau and Mannarino are all very different players indeed, so the Russian will have been able to work on his complete game, which is hopefully what he needs to get back into some form, which he has been lacking for a while. Regardless, he's been a whole lot better than Cilic has, and leads that H2H 5-1, and despite most matches going the distance, the handicap should be landed if he wins in 3.

  6. Re: Tennis - 24-30 October Taken a further 4 this morning with 2 in Vienna, and 2 for the women's matches. Juan Martin Del Porto (-4.5 games) to beat Tommy Haas- 5/6 Sportingbet- (3/10) Like the Argentinian here with Haas coming into this one after quite a bit of tennis already this week. Tommy already had to come through qualification this week, and then has had a couple of 3 setters since then, and given his fitness and injury concerns over the past couple of years, I struggle to see him being 100% today. Del Porto has a really good chance to gain some ranking points this week, given he missed this stage of the season last year, so he should be up for this one. He served well against Petzschner in the first round and won his doubles match to keep him adept with the conditions in Vienna. He hammered Haas in their previous meeting, losing just 3 games over the two sets, and his power should outdo Haas today on these quicker courts. Should be a comfortable one for Juan Martin today. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (-4 games AH) to beat Xavier Malisse- 5/6 Sportingbet- (2/10) Think the Frenchman will come through this in the end with a bit to spare. He started slowly against Nieminen but then found his range and came to terms with the courts, and that's when he really started to cruise and had few problems. As already mentioned, Tsonga is striving for the top 8, to make it to London, so he will see this week as an ideal chance to gain some points so like Del Porto, he should be up for it mentally. Malisse, still very much hit or miss, hasn't really beaten anyone who you wouldn't expect him to beat. He did actually beat Tsonga earlier this year in Indian Wells in a couple of tight sets, but Tsonga has had a super season since then, and there's no doubt he will want to end it with a place in the tour finals to round off a good year. His serve was good against the Finn yesterday, and I just think he will be too much for the Belgian today with the whole motivation. Fancy the Frenchman with the handicap here. Two for the women then, going against ImLovingIt, sorry mate ;) Victoria Azarenka vs Marion Bartoli- Under 19.5 games- Evens Coral- (3/10) Right, taken the unders here for a couple of reasons. If recent form and performances are anything to go on, Azarenka should wipe the floor with Bartoli today, like she has done with Li Na and Stosur, and everyone last week in Luxembourg. Bartoli withdrew last week from her match with Vesnina, so not 100% what condition she will be in, not often you worry about the opponent's fitness when talking about Azarenka :lol. But if things go to plan, Azarenka should win this quite easily, but, this is why I'm taking the unders. If Marion comes out of the traps firing, and plays some outstanding tennis, with tons of winners like she is capable of doing from time to time, and manages to pinch the first set, given Vicky is already booked her place through from the groups, it's debatable how much energy she will want to waste playing a lengthy match here. I'd be more inclined to think she'd just roll over and go through the motions, and be fresh for the latter stages of the competition. Regardless, don't think it will be a long one, and do think Azarenka will have way too much for Bartoli here. Sam Stosur (-3.5 games) to beat Li Na- 10/11 Sportingbet- (2/10) Can't ignore the head to hear here, which the Aussie leads 5-0, only dropping one set in total, earlier this year. She was outdone by Azarenka, much like Li, but beat Sharapova in far more convincing style than Li, who only beat her narrowly. Before this week, she had lost 3 games in a row, all against players she should be beaten, which isn't ideal preparation for playing the top players in the world. Stosur has only been beaten by the better players in the womens tour if you like, and should fancy her chances today. The head to head just underlines the problems Li has with Stosur, and the handicap is small enough and a decent enough price for me to back her to carry the dominance on in this little rivalry.

  7. Re: Tennis - 24-30 October Uni has quietened down a bit, well until my first essay on tuesday :eek but I'll get involved with 3 tomorrow over in Russia, with fairly low stakes, as I'm looking for the value. Mikhail Youzhny (-4.5 games) to beat Adrian Mannarino- Evens Bet365- (3/10) Not the biggest fan of backing the Russian with any sort of handicap but on home soil, I'd back him here. Mannarino has been out of sorts since the US open, only winning one match coming into this week, and losing to a couple of naff opponents in truth. The comeback against Simon I wouldn't read too much into, given Simon's tendencies to switch off, and then Rosol has been awful of late. The Russian hasn't been ultra-impressive to be honest but today I fancy him to show some of the class he possesses. He beat Benneteau in 3 a couple of days ago, and of late, he's only really been beaten by some good players, in Ljubicic, and Ferrero, whilst beating some good players as well. Home support I think might be quite important in this one, and the price is good enough for me to bite on the Russian who beat Mannarino easily a couple of years back. Same again would be nice. Marin Cilic (-4.5 games) to beat Andreas Seppi- Evens Bet365- (3/10) Regardless of my views on Cilic, this handicap looks half a game short to me. Granted Cilic has had problems with the Italian in the past, but from watching Seppi play Benneteau the other week in Mons, if he plays anything like that, no way I see him coping with Marin today. In that first set a couple of weeks ago, he started extremely slowly, and only due to Benneteau running out of steam, he was allowed back into it. The Croatian hasn't looked amazing in his couple of wins this week, but his serve was pretty handy against Devvarman, with 13 aces, whilst Seppi threw up a fair number of break points in his match against Pospisil. They've met twice this year, with Seppi failing to win a set, and a comfortable win again here for Cilic, with a break in both sets could see the handicap through. Potito Starace (+5) handicap to beat Janko Tipsarevic- 11/8 Bet365- (2/10) Taking the additional handicap on the Italian as he looks in good shape this week. He should be confident going into this one after an impressive win over Tursunov yesterday. Although his best results usually come on the clay, on the quicker surfaces he is handy as well, especially the indoor courts. He's got a decent serve which will allow him to pick up cheap points on these courts, as shown through him not being broken in either match thus far this week. Tipsarevic is on a 6 match winning streak now, after picking up the title in Moscow last week. Not sure fatigue will be too much of an issue for the Serb after Berrer retired early on in the second set today, but if Starace keeps his own service games tidy, and now allow the Serb too much of a look in, he should be able to keep it relatively tight for the majority and frustrate his opponent. In their past meetings int he indoor courts, Starace has made an impression, winning their first meeting a long time ago, but also in this competition a few years back, Tipsarevic won 7-6 6-4, and I'd fancy the Italian to keep things close again today.

  8. Re: Fishy's fancies Still not great again today, will update after tomorrow which I like the look of. Chelsea (-1) to beat QPR- Evens Ladbrokes- (6/10) Chelsea (-2.5) to beat QPR @3.35 Bet365- (2/10) Man Utd to beat Man City- 5/4 Ladbrokes- (4/10) Arsenal vs Stoke- BTTS- 5/6 Bet365- (3/10) Spurs to beat Blackburn- 10/11 Ladbrokes- (3/10)

  9. Re: Fishy's fancies Sticking very much to the singles today of the match results predominantly, with a couple of side bets. Aston Villa to beat West Brom- 11/10 Bet365- (4/10) Gabriel Agbonlahor First Goalscorer- 6/1 Bet365- (1/10 E/W- 1/3 Unlimited Places) Coventry to beat Burnley- 8/5 Bet365- (3/10) Hull (-1 AH) to beat Watford- 11/8 Bet365- (3/10) Huddersfield (-1 AH) to beat Preston- 5/4 Bet365- (3/10) Leyton Orient to beat Sheffield United- 15/8 Bet365- (3/10) Rochdale to beat Exeter- 15/8 Bet365- (3/10) Dag & Red vs Aldershot & Rotherham vs Shrewsbury- BTTS @ 2.82 Bet365- (3/10)

  10. Re: Fishy's fancies

Some others appeal to me then for the 3 o'clock kickoffs. Bristol City vs Peterborough- Over 2.5 goals- 8/11 Coral- (4/10) WIN Wimbledon to beat Crewe- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) LOSS Coventry to beat Nottingham Forest- 2/1 Bet365- (3/10) WIN Crystal Palace to beat Watford- 11/5 Bet365- (3/10) WIN Charlton to beat Stevenage- 6/4 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS Leyton Orient to beat Bury- 11/10 Sportingbet- (3/10) WIN Huddersfield to beat Exeter- 9/10 Sportingbet- (3/10) WIN Macclesfield to beat Oxford- 11/5 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS Bradford to beat Hereford- 31/20 Sportingbet- (3/10) LOSS
Also some BTTS multiples which I have taken in store with Ladbrokes. Walsall vs Preston- 8/13 Yeovil vs Carlisle- 4/6 Barnet vs Aldershot- 4/6 (5/10) LOSS Accrington vs Swindon- 4/6 Barnet vs Aldershot- 4/6 (5/10) LOSS Rochdale vs Colchester- 4/6 Walsall vs Preston- 8/13 Yeovil vs Carlisle- 4/6 Accrington vs Swindon- 4/6 Barnet vs Aldershot- 4/6 (0.5/10) LOSS
Will update the P/L after the Spurs match in which I'm taking an interest in the corner markets. Spurs to have Most Corners- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) LOSS Over 11 Corners in Match- 11/10 Bet365- (4/10) LOSS Spurs (-1 Corner) to beat Newcastle- 7/5 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS
Not a good weekend last week, the usual match results were fine, but the BTTS followed by the Spurs corners bets were a disaster to be honest, meaning I took the week off from betting. Bring the overall down to +13.12, when at one point it was near the +50 mark. Really hope I can stop the rout today.

  14. Re: Fishy's fancies

Discounting what I said yesterday, and returning to my preferred tennis today. Quite a few I like including some challenger matches which I rarely touch. Agnieszka Radwanska (-3.5 games) to beat Andrea Petkovic- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) LOSS James Blake vs Ivo Karlovic- Over 22.5 games- 4/5 Bet365- (4/10) WON Julien Benneteau to beat Andreas Seppi- 8/11 Bet365- (4/10) LOSS Ivo Karlovic to beat James Blake- Evens Bet365- (3/10) WIN Stan Wawrinka (-3 games) to beat Juan Monaco- 11/10 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS
How all of these didn't come through as winners eludes me, let alone coming out of it with a loss. Radwanska dominated the early part of the match, only to lose the second set to love. Benneteau also took the first set 6-2 but didn't show much from there. and Wawrinka, well after a shocking start had a matchpoint on serve to win the final set 6-1, but chocked, of course he held himself in his next service game when the handicap was lost. Really annoying last week. Bring the overall down to +43.62 ahead of this weekend.
  15. Re: Fishy's fancies Early saturday bets then, will add some more later with more time to look. Liverpool to beat Man Utd- 7/4 Ladbrokes- (4/10) Liverpool Highest Scoring Team in Premiership this Weekend- 22/1 Bet365- (0.5/10 E/W- 1/4 1,2,3 Norwich Highest Scoring Team in Premiership this Weekend- 16/1 Bet365- (0.5/10 E/W- 1/4 1,2,3 Bolton Highest Scoring Team in Premiership this Weekend- 25/1 Bet365- (0.5/10 E/W- 1/4 1,2,3

  17. Re: Fishy's fancies

3 in mind for the darts tonight. Phil Taylor (-3.5 sets) to beat Richie Burnett- 8/11 William Hill- (6/10) LOSS Phil Taylor to win 5-0- 9/4 Bet365- (2/10) LOSS Brendan Dolan vs James Wade- 10&Over 180's- Evens Bet365- (3/10) LOSS
Real nightmare there. Burnett holding a couple of sets. But how there were only 9 180's in the Dolan-Wade match is beyond me. But -11 there taking the overall down to +48.42. Got some uni stuff to focus on this week so might take a break until next weekend or so :ok
  18. Re: Fishy's fancies

No Premiership or Championship football today due to the International break, but still some matches in leagues 1 and 2 which catch the eye. Scunthorpe vs Leyton Orient- Over 2.5 Goals- 7/10 Sportingbet- (5/10) WIN Colchester vs Yeovil- BTTS- 4/5 Bet365- (4/10) WIN Wycombe vs Walsall- BTTS- 8/11 Bet365- (4/10) WIN Charlton vs Tranmere- Over 2.5 Goals- 10/11 William Hill- (3/10) LOSS Oxford to beat Bristol Rovers- 10/11 Coral- (3/10) WIN Brentford to beat Carlisle- 11/5 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS Northampton to beat Crawley- 12/5 Bet365- (3/10) LOSS
Thankfully the bigger stake bets came through along with Oxford. Shame Brentford couldn't manage a win, and really thought Charlton would press on after going a goal down but they could only manage a draw. Still, a profit of +3.32 for this afternoon, taking the overall to +59.42 :cheers

Nothing to speak of there. Breaking even with only the Murray handicap coming through. Overall still stands at +56.10 :cheers
