  1. Re: Wimbledon 2012 Few for me today then and taking some outsiders... Marin Cilic (-3.5 games) to beat Sam Querrey- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) Backed Cilic against Kubot in the previous round and I'm happy to do so again. It's actually a pretty similar reasoning to be honest in that Cilic has an extremely good record against the big servers and although Querrey has more to his game than Kubot, I still think Cilic will see him off. I watched the match at Queen's between these 2 a couple of weeks ago and although the wind was creating havoc for both players, Cilic was always pretty comfortable after he played himself in after the first few games and he was returning Querrey's serve extremely well. The fact that he was breaking Kubot for fun in the previous round really shows how well Cilic is returning right now and that should mean he'll got more chances on the American's serve as Querrey isn't the best on return. Raonic had chances against him in the previous round but he couldn't take advantage but I think Cilic will today. He beat Querrey here back in 2009 in a 5 set thriller and although Querrey could pinch another set today, I think come the end the Croat will win pretty well here. Marcos Baghdatis (+7.5 games) to beat Andy Murray- 5/6 Stan James- (4/10) Although it's a tad risky opposing Murray with handicaps, I do think this line is a little too low. Baghdatis although is isn't quite at the level he once was, usually seems to thrive on the big occasions and I think he'll love being on centre court today. He beat Montanes comfortably and then was a bit fortunate that Dimitrov had to withdraw after the first set but that will mean the Cypriot is fully fresh and I think he should be really relaxed on court. He will know that Murray is the heavy favourite, especially after Nadal's defeat so it will be interesting to see how Murray plays in the first set and if he is feeling any pressure early doors. As I've mentioned, Baggy is one for the big occasion though against the big players. He took a set of Djokovic 12 months ago and took a comfortable set off Murray in Tokyo. This season he has already kept things close with Djokovic and Tsonga and with the problems he has caused Murray in the past, I wouldn't be surprised if he pinched a set here providing he keeps the unforced errors down but even in 3 tightish sets he could cover the handicap so I'm happy to back the Cypriot. Kei Nishikori to beat Juan Martin Del Potro- 5/2 Stan James- (2/10) Kei Nishikori (+5.5 games) to beat Juan Martin Del Potro- 4/5 Stan James- (4/10) I'm going to have a little go with Nishkori here both with the outright and the handicap. Del Potro, although winning fairly comfortably against Haase and Soeda so far still is worth opposing here I feel. Losing that third set against Soeda 6-1 is really poor to be honest, especially when you factor in he was cruising for the first 2 sets and although you can say he was never in danger of losing the match, if he throws in a poor set against Nishikori, he may not be so fortunate. Nishikori works extremely hard on court and can hit some spectacular winners on both sides and he looks as though he has recovered from injury now given he's beaten Kukukshin and Serra in straight sets which is a decent showing and good preparation for this match. Already this season, the man from Japan has beaten Tsonga twice which shows he can deal with the quick and flat ground strokes that is Del Potro's game really and he has it in him to frustrate the Argentinian and that hopefully will lead to a streak of unforced errors. I just think if Nishikori can hang about and prolong the match, he has a real chance in this one and with the support he's sure to generate from the Japanese fans, he may just have it in him to be extremely competitive here and maybe cause a little upset. Andy Roddick to beat David Ferrer- 2/1 BetVictor- (3/10) I'm going to go against Atko and Czech here and actually back the American to record his best win on grass for some time. Matches between these 2 are generally pretty tight and I feel Roddick's odds are actually a tad too high. He was poor at Queen's a couple of weeks ago but since then, he has won 7 in a row, only dropping 1 set in that time and today with the sun beating hard, if he serves well I think he's got a chance. Roddick was always pretty comfortable against Bjorn Phau despite a few dodgy moments but on the whole he was never in trouble. Now, despite being a huge Ferrer fan, I haven't been too convinced with his performances against Dustin Brown and de Schepper. In the Brown match especially, Ferrer wasn't hitting his passing shots too well and Brown actually put some pressure on Ferrer's serve which you wouldn't really expect from the Spaniard. The passing shot is something he'll need to play well today as Roddick should look to come in a fair bit and you feel he will have to as Ferrer can run all day from the baseline and won't make too many unforced errors. I just think the odds should be a bit closer than they are. Of course the point has been made that this isn't the greatest match-up for the American, but the sun should help him gain some cheap points today on serve and if he can serve well, I think he may have his chances in this one. He beat Ferrer at the US Open last season and with Ferrer not the best on grass, I'll back the American to show us some glimpses of the past and win this one.

  2. Re: Friends Life T20 2012 After the shambles that was last night, I'll hope for better today and I'm taking 3 in total. Hampshire to beat Surrey- 10/11 Stan James- (4/10) Happy to oppose Surrey once more here as I'm still not convinced about their mental state really. Squad wise they have some important players back today, including Gary Wilson who has been superb this season in the T20 but the fact that Gareth Batty is still captaining the side, even with Rory Hamilton-Brown back just says to me that they are still not in the best state to play cricket just at the minute and I think Hampshire will make the most of that. They beat Essex pretty comfortably in the end last night and batted extremely well. Even without Michael Carberry, there is still an abundance of batting talent in there, with Adams, Vince, Katich, McKenzie, Ervine and Maxwell, and even Mascarenhas and Dawson at 7 and 8 shows just how good this batting lineup is. Hampshire have built up some momentum, winning their last 3 and with the tragic news that Surrey had last week, I still don't think they will be up for this one as much as they need to, which is understandable but I expect Hampshire to win and really make a push for the quarter finals. Over 30.5 Boundaries- 5/6 William Hill- (4/10) The 6's line also looks a little low to me but I'm going to back the overs for the boundaries instead which also looks really low. In the last 2 T20 matches down at Southampton, there have been 34 and 37 boundaries which show how line this looks. The worry would perhaps be that Surrey still are too fragile mentally to score runs, but they showed against Essex last week that they can still score runs so I don't expect that to be too much of a problem, especially with Gary Wilson back which only strengthens their batting. Hampshire have plenty of depth in their batting order as I've discussed with Liam Dawson at 7 and Mascarenhas at 8 whilst Surrey also bat fairly low down as well and with plenty of boundaries going about down at Southampton, I fancy we'll see at least 31 boundaries today. And 1 in the other TV game. Glamorgan Highest 1st 6 Overs- 4/5 BetVictor- (4/10) Glamorgan definitely are my fancy in the first 6 here and they will know they need to start winning if they are to stand any chance of making the quarter finals. Northants are out already so they may actually choose to rest a few players but even if they don't, I still fancy the Welshman here. Yesterday they bumped Mark Wallace up the order to go out swinging and that was an effective tactic as he hit a quick 25, and with Shaun Marsh at the other end, you have 2 extremely attacking batsman who will look to score runs and make the most of the powerplay. Bowling wise, James Harris and Simon Jones are a pretty good opening attack as well and can be difficult to get away and with this match meaning far more to the Welsh Dragons, I think they will win this little battle.

  3. Re: Wimbledon 2012 Nothing much doing for me today with Istomin missing a match point to cover the handicap and Mayer never looking likely. Means a tiny loss and down to +22.69. I'm waiting for tomorrow until I take anything but I'm going to be going against the grain a bit. I'm going to end up being hated in the tennis threads by the regulars for my rebellious bets. Well, more hated than I am already anyway. ;)

  4. Re: Friends Life T20 2012 Well that f*cking sums up my luck in this tournament. Leicestershire needed 33 from the last 2 overs, only for there to be 2 sixes plus 5 wides in the penultimate over. Chesney Hughes then drops a catch in the final over to gift 3 runs away, and the last ball goes for a boundary when the Foxes need 3 to win. Annoyed would be a massive understatement. Good they got the job done for Kev, but so pissed off just at the minute and that takes me straight back to +3.04 for the tournament. :wall

  5. Re: Friends Life T20 2012 Just the two for me tonight as I can't pick a winner in lots of the matches. Glamorgan to beat Worcestershire- Evens Stan James- (3/10) I like the Glamorgan side a lot more than I do the Worcestershire ad I think there's a better balance amongst it. Worcestershire's bowling attack is pretty poor in truth and they need to score plenty of runs just to give them a decent chance of winning and recently they haven't been doing that. You have to imagine at least 2 out of Hughes, Solanki and Ali will have to make decent scores otherwise they will struggle as there's not too much quality batting after you get past the top 3. Glamorgan though have a pretty deep batting lineup, and plenty of craft in their bowling attack with their spin options especially who are wily enough to keep things tight. Their top 4 of Marsh, North, Allenby and van Jaarsveld are all extremely good in this format whilst even the likes of Wallace and Walters down the order give them plenty of depth. James Harris is one of the brightest talents in the English game right now with the ball to go with Croft and Cosker and all in all, I just think there's a lot more to this Glamorgan side than just the top 3 that Worcestershire possess and with no rain to hamper them today, I think the men from Wales will win this one. Derbyshire to beat Leicestershire- 11/10 William Hill- (3/10) This bet is more against the defending champions than anything else. Neither side has been in any sort of form in the tournament but from watching Leicestershire on TV the other day, their ability to close the game out from a commanding position just tells me that they are completely short of any confidence. In the dressing room they will know this tournament has been nothing short of a disaster in their attempts to defend their title and I'm not entirely sure how much motivation they will actually have coming into this one. Derbyshire have been equally poor in the tournament but I still can't be having them at odds against. They have some decent batsman in their top order in Durston, Khawaja and Madsen whilst Hughes, Whitely and Rana down the order can give the ball a bit of a spank. Their bowling attack is aggressive and quick, which is supported by the spin of David Wainwright who is a really good bowler so it's actually a little surprising they haven't managed to do a bit more in the tournament. They lost the reverse fixture up at Leicester in a reduced overs match but they were actually going really nicely at one stage before their middle order started to get pegged back. They will be at home today and this is realistically their last chance of giving their fans something to smile about you feel and 11/10 against a side who must be on a massive low right now, I'll take the risk with Derbyshire.

  6. Re: Wimbledon 2012 Livescore Thread Thanks a bunch Slider. Didn't take Troicki because of what you said and now he's up a set and a break. Never listening to you again. :lol;) Really good win for Querrey there, good to see him winning matches again. Djokovic down a set to Stepanek. :loon Unlike the match yesterday, only a matter of time before Novak clicks into gear and passes Stepanek for fun.

  7. Re: Wimbledon 2012 Taken a few more this morning in addition to Malisse last night. Florian Mayer (-3.5 games) to beat Jerzy Janowicz- 4/5 Stan James- (4/10) As much as I am a Janowicz fan after he did the business for me against Gulbis, this should be the end of the road for him here. Mayer came back from 2 sets down in the previous round to beat his mate Petzschner and he'll really fancy his chances in this one. He should be able to move the Pole around the court with his unorthodox variety and cope with the power Janowicz gets on his serve. In all honesty, he was a little fortunate to get past Gulbis as the Latvian had a few break points in the fourth set and if he would have taken them he would have won the match. Mayer will be more professional if you like and won't be as liable to go missing for a set straight after winning one like Gulbis does. Mayer only just recently beat Janowicz on clay in straight sets and I think he'll do the job again today on the qualifier. Denis Istomin (-3.5 games) to beat Alejandro Falla- 7/10 BetVictor- (4/10) Think Istomin has a good shot of making the fourth round here given the amount of tennis Falla has been forced to play thus far. Epic 5 set matches against Isner and Mahut will have really taken it out of the Colombian mentally, if not physically as well. Even when he was leading against Mahut, he still let the Frenchman claw it back to 2 sets all and had a fair bit of difficulty in closing the match out. He's not really been given enough rest time IMO to come into another 5 set match which could really be a problem for him especially when you consider Istomin will be looking to hit winners whenever he can and is usually pretty solid on serve. He comfortably beat Andreev in the last round after narrowly beating Seppi and looks to be in decent form with wins over Llodra and Granollers last week. He's already managed to beat Falla on clay this year, a surface which Istomin isn't particularly comfortable on and I think on a quicker surface with a fatigued Falla, he'll win this with a bit to spare. Richard Gasquet (-3.5 games) to beat Nicolas Almagro- 10/11 Stan James- (4/10) Right so I'm going against Atko, Czech and now IAG all in one bet which you will seldom ever see from me but Gasquet is one of those occasions. It's been noted how inconsistent Gasquet is and although I've opposed him in both of his matches so far and he has had a few problems, some of his tennis has been impressive I must say. He's been extremely good on return which is what he'll have to be today as Almagro's serve is extremely solid generally and his backhand has bee working extremely well which is always a good sign and indicator to how well the Frenchman is playing. Almagro has gone back to his old self in that he's dropped sets to Rochus and Rufin which he really shouldn't be doing, even on grass. The little Belgian almost beat the Spaniard in fact which doesn't give me any sort of confidence and I'm just not convinced about him over here on the grass. He has beaten Gasquet in every match they've played, (3 in total) but on the grass I think Gasquet may just do the job and with a touch to spare come the end. It may go to 4 or 5 sets in fact, but the handicap is still low enough for me to back the Frenchman here.

  8. Re: Wimbledon 2012 Yeah tomorrow looks pretty tough in truth. Might be one of those days to stay away mostly. I have taken one tonight though and I'll be back tomorrow if I have any more. Xavier Malisse to beat Fernando Verdasco- 4/5 Stan James- (5/10) My biggest bet of the tournament so far here without going too over board and I really like the chances of Malisse tomorrow. To me, even when Verdasco is playing somewhere near his best, Malisse is still the better player on grass and it's no secret that the Spaniard hasn't been playing his best stuff for some time now. He's done okay on the clay so far this season, but he's not done a great deal on the quicker surfaces, whilst he has been extremely unconvincing against Wang and Zemlja in his first couple of matches here. Malisse I really rate on the grass and is a good couple of levels above that of the opposition that Verdasco has faced so far. Quarters at Queen's, semis in Holland and straight set victories over Matosevic and Simon here really show how well he is playing just at the minute whereas Verdasco is still extremely hit and miss. Although the H2H is in favour of the Spaniard, I think Malisse deserves to be a bigger favourite here given the way both players have been playing recently. You could see after the win over Simon today just how delighted he was with the win so clearly he wants a good run here which is good to see and I think he'll record another win tomorrow at the expense of Verdasco and make it into the fourth round.

  9. Re: Wimbledon 2012 I can't be bothered to have this Nadal debate again as it irritates me in truth but I'll have my last word on it and let that be it. For one, you are acting like the AO surface is about 10 times slower than the courts in the US. They are slower but not massively and the slice shot that most good grass players use is still just as effective over in Australia. Nadal has made the last 2 finals in the US Open and the last 5 he's played at Wimbledon and regardless of who you play, to say his game isn't effective on the two surfaces is a complete joke. Nadal has shown it is through that and despite playing Murray a fair few times, if you have very little game on grass you don't beat Murray that many times. He's beaten Federer on grass as well which you seem to forget and he has beaten Federer comfortably on the hard courts in the US as well. I'd give you pretty big odds on Federer beating Nadal in any slam again. Rafa mentally owns him and he will win other slams other than the French. :eyes

  10. Re: Friends Life T20 2012 Oh for Heaven's sake. Was literally screaming inside for them to run on that final Napier ball which would have given Khan the full win. Had to scream it inside my head though as my old man is an Essex fan. :lol Pretty much a full house in here tonight though but still a tad disappointed only to get half the winnings with Khan. Nevertheless it's +9.20 tonight, which takes me to +9.04 for the tournament and Sussex look really good now for the outrights. Superb shouts by Kev, top work bud. :clap Let's hope this is where we really start to kick on in the tournament.

  11. Re: Wimbledon 2012

What are you talking about fishy? Stepanek-Rosol final is on!
:rollin Imagine the people who have tickets for the final only to have that in front of them. This is Murray's best chance now although Tsonga will be tough. Your comment did make me laugh though haha.
  12. Although what i am about to say has nothing to do with what you posted here, i am here to recall our chat during the recent french open. Turns out

'Nadal's trade won't work on other surfaces?' was spot on afterall. I know, Nadal has played 5 finals here in SW19. But you what the cliche is? "You are only so good as your previous match". Nadal was LUCKY he even won the first set. It is a pity Rosol didnt beat him in three sorry sets.

You're basing this on one match and not the big picture. Nadal has still made 5 finals, winning it twice so there's still literally no argument for you to say his 'trade doesn't work on other surfaces.' You don't beat Murray 3 times out of 3 and Federer if your game isn't effective on the grass. Andy Murray has lost to Donald Young in the past. Does that mean Murray isn't effective on the hard courts? One match doesn't mean anything :eyes
