  1. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League - 29-31 July Today we got the first game of the new compeltition. Surprises are a part of football, and unfortunate they most of the time happen in the beginning and are difficult to predict. Today's game is OH Leuven - Anderlecht. Leuven promoted last year and so it's new in first division. Leuven is a bit like Braga in Portugal, a city for the students but I have no idea why that would be important :p The teams: Leuven has a nice team. They have bought several good players but the question is will they remain fit? A Jurgen Roelandts for example is one of the most creative players and has a great vision, but he has difficulties to remain fit at the moment. It's hard to predict how Leuven will play. Annys is suspended, new people as Boi, Roelandts, Vermeulen will play. I'm really eager to see how Ruytinckx will be playing for OHL. He's a great striker with a lot of goals in 2nd division and someone who woke up a lot of intrest of 1st division teams. Now he is in the 1st division and I want to see how good he is. Anderlecht had a good season last year, but they fall apart when Boussoufa left. That was Anderlecht's main goal this season. Replacing the creative little guy on the pitch and giving the team more offensive power and possibilities. Anderlecht bought a lot of players, but the question remains if those purchases are the right ones and are they ready? Anderlecht has a history of poor transfers and specially players who aren't ready (yet) to play for Anderlecht. Thats why Kanu, Reynaldo, Iakovenko,.... where loaned out the first (couple) of seasons. Suspected line up for Anderlecht: Proto Odoi, Juhasz, Samuel, Safari Gillet, Marecek, Klejstan Fernando (Canesin), Lukaku, Suarez I'm not sure about their midfield. A lot of empty spots there. Gillet seems to be sure of his spot, but the other spots are doubtfull. Could be Reynaldo will be starting. OHL is a bit unknown because it's their first game on the highest level and with a couple of new players. Does it really matter? I don't think so. Anderlecht misses with Vargas still a really important player and the question is if they have found a replacement for Boussoufa? In the future it'll be Vargas, but he's not fit and he'll be still out for at least 2 months ... I do think Anderlecht should win this game with the talent they had. Lukaku is still at the team and he'll have to be in a good shape to make Anderlecht win this game. Suarez is a player who always starts good at the season, but around december his best shape is gone... Since it's still early I guess he'll be playing good and a good Suarez is a dangerous weapon! Since it's the first game of the season, and we know little of OHL My bet won't be a huge one.. That's why my bet is: Anderlecht to win @ 1.56 Small-Medium stakes

  2. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League - 29-31 July

I actually expect some more transfers to come near the end of the transfer window (when the players gets cheaper compared to their current price). Not only at my club, but others too. Also after years of wasting too much money, the board at Lierse changed a lot and we're cutting the expenses. I think the acquisition of Jesse de Preter as CEO is a good thing for the club, for the future. Not many useless transfers (we still got to get rid of players like Job, Douala, Camacho, Nottari, ...) Now, they're looking for some affordable opportunities. I admit we could use some more attacking strength too (only 3-4 attackers at the moment). I don't expect as a surprise this season, but a year without too much of stress would be welcome. The last 3 years were quite demanding "mentally" :p 2 years battling for promotion 1 year of battling against relegation (which we survived just a couple of mins before the end of the season) I hope that because of the few transfers we made and the squad remained a bit stable for the first time in years, we got a team that's accustomed to eachother. Who do you support by the way?
Well.. I Love Standard, but that's not really my favorite team.... Belgian football is just to poor actually. I'm a huge Real Madrid fan and I love to go to home games of my local team (Geel you'll prob. Know them since you are from Lier? or Lierse fan...)
  3. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League - 29-31 July

I definitely hope you're wrong ;) btw why do you consider the few new players from Lierse as "not good"? Karim Saidi has a past at Feyenoord and seems a defender with good passing (though his condition should improve over the weeks) Boban Grncarov played Champions League 2 seasons ago (against Chelsea, Atletico, Porto) and has a past at AA Gent. So he knows the Belgian competition. Also part of champions of Cyprus, Apoel Nicosia. Soufiane Bidaoui is rather unknown. Didn't succeed at Westerlo (where they wanted him to be the new Dirar). Left a good impression at Roeselare last season but I'll jugde him when I've seen a couple of games. Ok, Chris Janssens is an inexperienced coach but it was the same with Glenn de Boeck & Bob Peeters (at Cercle).
Ok, but defense of Lierse really sucked last year and they had a lot of immature players. I really don't think Lierse will suprise this year.. I know you are a fan and won't like to hear this, and believe me all transfers my team does are great aswell but it's always waiting... There was a reason why Saidi and Grncarov left Feyenoord and Gent. Playing Champions League is really not that hard when you go to a smaller team and you are lucky in the draw for qualification matches..., Idd there are some teams who did a couple of great transfers but a lot will depend of the fitness of the players. Kv Mechelen bought Ruiz, but he's injured a lot so how will that pay off? Leuven did some great transfers if you ask me. But here aswell, question is how about Roelandts? Will he be fit or injured during this season? and as said how will players adapt to a higher level or new competition...
  4. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season

Oh dear, I have forgotten Suarez :lol I have editted my post I hope he will play in front with Lukaku. Kabasele is alsow an option but I don't think he is readdy to play. With Suarez I like the 4-4-2. Genk didn't play verry well yesterday, they came back after 0-1 losing. They didn't given me a good impression.
havn't seen the match. Havn't seen the goals eiter actually... But Genk is a different story this year. Without Courtois who saved a lot of points and Matoukou + Mavinga gone is a lot of defensive players who left... + Last season it was all good for Genk. European football was the goal and there wasn't a lot of pressure. This season there are way more people who suspect them to play great and... Well! To me the big favorites are Club Brugge and Anderlecht, really can't see anyone else pop up to take the title this year...
  5. Re: UEFA Champions League 26/27 July

Standard-FC Zurich line ups: Standard: Bolat, Opare, Kanu, Felipe, Pocognoli, Goreux, Camara, Buyens, Van Damme, Nong, Tchité FC Zürich: Leoni, P.Koch, Béda, Rodriguez, Magnin, Margairaz, Aegerter, Mehmedi, Schönbächler, Alphonse, Djuric Mangala (Standard) is injured. The question is Steven Defour will play because he wants to leave Standard.
True, Defour wants to leave and playing Champions League would mean he can't play Champions League for his new team I guess.. So we'll see I got a lot of questions with Standard. They are not that great and Riga is a terrible coach if you ask me... I think this could be a dark season for Standard. I don't know how strong Zurich is but in Belgian Super Cup Standard played awfull! even with a man more on the field!
  6. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Nice written! I agree on Anderlecht, but I think Suarez will play more in the beginning of the season. You must take an Lukaku depart in concideration. Also Biglia and Juhasz could be leaving. Club Brugge is nice. I don't know about your right defender, I suspect Hoefkens to play, not? for the rest I think it'll be the team playing. lookin forward to your overview of Standard and Genk.

  7. Re: Belgium-Jupiler Pro League > Ante-Post 2011-12 Season Follow you on thisone mate. Anderlecht can't afford another poor season after missing champions league spots last year. I think they bought a lot of good players, but a lot wil depend on the staying or not of Romelu Lukaku and if he leaves the question is can Anderlecht find a striker who can replace him? Club Brugge bought a lot of great players and I think they'll be a serious competitor this season. No chances for the other teams I guess Genk lost a lot of good players (courtois, matoukou and in future perhaps de bruyne or vossen?) and pressure is on now. Last season they played cool without a lot of pressure Standard lost Witsel and prob. Defour aswell and Riga just sucks as a coach. can tell you 1 thing. I'm lookin forward to next weekend when we're starting again :D

  8. Re: Belgium - Cofidis Cup - 21 May Yes, but that's the regular competiton and how it finished. After that there where play offs in Belgium. In those play offs top 6 teams compete eachother and the other teams.. well long story. In that Play Offs westerlo played well, but against opponents of a poor or well.. not that good level Standard played play offs with top 6 teams, they won all but 2 games wich they drawed (last game for the title in the only other opponent for the title Genk) conclusion: standard is in a better shape because they did better then Westerlo did in the play offs + they did it against stonger teams! Standard had a lot of injury trouble during the season with their leader Defour being injured, but also Goalkeeper Bolat, Tchité, Nong who was in a poor shape (but is playing good now) An other thing is standard bought some good players in January with V. Damme and Kanu. More power more defensive minded players and a better balance in the team.

  9. Re: Belgium - Cofidis Cup - 21 May bit late with my tips perhaps but well.. Here go's the last game of the season to me. Standard - Westerlo is the cup final a lot will depend on how dissapointed standard players are with missing the title, but I feel confident that's already forgotten. I think Standard have the better team thats clearly visible. Now, Westerlo isn't doing bad aswell but should'nt be a match for Standard I feel. Carcela saw his teammates in the hospital and asked them to win the belgian cup for him. This could be really important to the team. Standard are better on pure class. Suspected Line ups: Standard: Bolat - Ciman, Kanu, Mangala, Opare - V. Damme, Defour, Witsel, Camara, Leye - Tchité Westerlo Deelkens - Cools, Mravac, Corstjens, Delen - Jakovenko, Brüls, Ngolok, De Petter - Dekelver, Henrique Henrique is really on fire for Westerlo. He's playing great, but it has to be said, opposition hasn't been that great in Play Off 2. Now there will be a lot more competition and it won't be that easy. For Standard Pocognoli is still doubfull. he played against Genk and I def. don't think he'll play today. He had to go off against Genk aswell, meaning he can only play if the staff gives him an injection. I don't think they'll take this risk today. Tchité aswell is doubfull but I guess he'll play or be atleast on the bench. If he doesn't play there are 2 options. Goreux comming in midfield, Leye going to the front or Nong playing in Tchité's place. It could be Witsel has to move to the right midfield aswell, but I don't believe that. Standard played good and the fact they lost the title could be a blow for them. BUT players seem to be really realistic about it and get the fact they did well in play offs but Genk really deserved the title. The fact Carcela spoken his teammates and requested them to win the title could be great for them! It could be the extra motivation they needed! Westerlo not a bad team, but I don't think they are standing a chance against this Standard. my bet: Standard to win, medium to high stakes or perhaps a +2.5 Goals Scored gl all! :hope:hope

  10. Re: UEFA Europa League Final > 18 May well.. 2 teams know eachother really good and Braga never was the most attacking side.. To me it looks like an easy -2.5 because of that reason. Perhaps I'll also put Falcao to be first goalscorer. In a game with not a lot of goals there is a big chance he'll score that first goal. Great striker and in a good shape! Don't know yet, I'm watching the forum here and will place my bet rather late prob :)

  11. Re: Belgium - Jupiler League - 16-17 May

well.. good question... Club Brugge plays european football next season (euro league) but they have to go trough qualification rounds. Now, it depends on the Westerlo result in the cup. If Westerlo take the cup Club is on the 2nd qualification round. If not there is still an final game between Club Brugge and Westerlo to be played to see who plays 2nd qualification round and who 3rd.. Now, the question is if Koster wants to risk injuries this game and Gent really wants to win... I myself am looking a bit to a lokeren win in anderlecht or a lokere draw no bet.. think there is a higher possibility this would happen.. ow and ps. Thank you, thank you all for your kind words :) BUT! you have to remember to me it are bets aswell...
ah ps, Lokeren won so I had this correct, Lokeren, @ 7.60 with a real low stake gives me a bit of profit today since I didn't make anything out of the standard game
  12. Re: Belgium - Jupiler League - 16-17 May well.. I betted against standard in the 2nd half, I mean.. You knew Genk would stay pressurise Standard, they where les nervous as I thought they would be. Ok, I still had a lot of profit if standard won, but now at least I don't lost any money! Idd Courtois, genks goaly made them champions! today again, 2 great saves @ 1-1 what gave them the title! Carcela, who had his head kicked of by Mavinga, taken out of the game is another hard and important thing that was against my bet so (suffered some problems with his jaws, broken nose,.. and he was away before he hit the ground what gave him a huge smack on the ground, not pretty to see, sure not with Wouter Weylandt still in mind.. Well, unfortunate you can't win them all! hope you guys aren't to dissapointed, but the longer a streak lasts, the closer you get to that loss.. Still a good game from Standard, unfortunate there was that 1 fault.. 1 header went in! + that crazy good courtois.

  14. Re: Belgium - Jupiler League - 16-17 May bit sooner as suspected but I couldn't wait :) Selections: Standard: Bolat, Blazic, Opare, Goreux, Mangala, Kanu, Felipe, Boukhriss, Pocognoli, Ciman, Carcela, Witsel, Defour, Camara, Van Damme, Daerden, Berrier, Leye, Nong, Tchité, Pieroni Strange Pocognoli is in the selection. He injured himself last game with a tackle he made. His knee looked not right and I told my friend direct.. Well there go's his season and the preparation for the next.. Now it seems he is in the squad? I wonder how fit he really is... Genk: Joneleit, Matoukou, Hubert, Camus, Tozser, Vossen, Vanden Borre, De Bruyne, Anele, Mavinga, Buffel, Nadson, Dugary, Durwael, Casteels, Köteles, Kennedy, Courtois, Ogunjimi, Pudil, Limbombe No real surprises here... Now the game. I have a feeling I'm repeating myself all over again so sorry for that but... Genk is a good team. Great goaly defense did well this year and the strikers can score easly. Standard is a good team aswell. Since Van Damme and Kanu came in January it's all way better for the team from Liège. They have a lot more power and defensive it's all going way better than it was going. The team has a better balance now... In a normal game this would be to close to call, but as you all know this is a titlegame! Genk has enough with a draw to win the title, so Standard has to win! Possible line ups: Genk: Courtois - Mavinga, Matoukou, Joneleit, Anele - Hubert, Toszer, De Bruyne, Buffel - Vossen, Ogunjimi the question is how deep Vossen will play. To me there is no doubt this will be the line up, but Vossen can play as a midfielder aswell, and the longer Genk are on at least a draw the more defensive he'll play, leaving Ogunjimi in front allone. Standard: Bolat - Ciman, Kanu, Mangala, Opare - Defour, Camara, V. Damme, Witsel, Carcela - Tchité There is a question in Standards line up. Will Pocognoli play? That's a huge question. I don't believe he will.. I think it's a lot of bluff taking him with the team to Genk. The other question is who will play leftdefender. V. Damme could go to left defense, but more likely Opare will play left defense, given Ciman a chance to come back in the team playing right defender. Other question is will standard play the 4-5-1 I just gave you or will Leye or Nong come in the team so Standard will play a 4-4-2? In this 4-4-2 Witsel has been more dangerous, on the other hand Genk where really strugling against the 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 as you wish from Club Brugge with the 3 central midfielders so... could go either way. I believe they'll play the line up as I given, but as said I don't know how fit Pocognoli is and if he plays Ciman will go to the bench. Important duels this game: Standard defense VS Genk Offence Standard's defense has proven during this season not to be the strongest part of the team. On the other hand, since V Damme and Kanu came there is a lot more balance in the team and a lot more power. Defense is going a lot better now. Genk's offense has been great during this season. Vossen is top goalscorer, but he is missing his killer instinct more and more. In the beginning of the season he scored all goals, now he struggles more to score. Easy goals are not for him anymore. He missed a open chance last game, but he can still shoot verry precise from outside the box. De Bruyne Vs Ciman? De Bruyne is without a doubt Genk's most dangerous player! he's fast without the ball but with the ball on his foot he's still fast has hell! his oponent will have a lot of trouble and Ciman.. I don't know. He isn't a bad defender but I still don't know if he's the best option to place Vs De Bruyne. Therefore I got this feeling perhaps Opare could play on the spot of rightdefender. He's faster and played more games. Ciman has been on the bench a lot since january Hubert-Toszer Vs Defour-Witsel No doubt here. Hubert-Toszer is way more defensive then Defour and Witsel. Genk's midfield will play even more defensive today. Defour will be the most defensive midfielder of standard while Witsel will go deep! he is 1 of, or perhaps even THE best player of the Belgian Jupiler League. Last year he was good, this year he is outstanding! Everyone is talking about Lukaku, but to all you Premier League followers I say Witsel is way better then Fellaini is. Strong with the head, defending if needed, offensive if he can, good with the head, good vision, great physique + great shot! No doubt about it, this witsel is going to a Premier League team, probably next season! Tchité Vs Matoukou/Joneleit Tchité is an attack on his own. He isn't the most technical player, but he's good with his head, he's fast as lightning and has a (don't know if you say this in English aswell, but in dutch it is a saying) nose for the goal. He is atlethic and sometimes seems to be made out of rubber! a great player being difficult to defend on for everyone. Carcela Vs Mavinga Well.. I'm really sorry Carcela has chosen the marokkan nationality over the belgian. He's playing for the Marokkan national team and that's really a los. In belgium we got a lot of good wingers. De Bruyne, Dembele (could play there aswell), Mertens, El Ghanassy and last but def. not least Hazard! But this carcela could beat them all! he could beat them all together if needed. To me he is one of the better wingers in the world already (Just behind the top like Ronaldo, Messi,..). Perhaps you think I'm exaggerating but no, he truly is a great player! Belgian attack could've been really great with De Bruyne and Carcela on the flank, Hazard behind the striker and Lukaku in front, but well I'm not discussing here about belgian national team. He has a strong leftfoot to shoot/cross. His free kicks are deadly and he can cross great with his right foot aswell. Mavinga will have a difficult game today! Well enough smalltalk lets get back to buisiness now As you can see teams are even. Great teams both, but there is 1 huge difference. Genk's players are all young and unexpierienced with this kind of games. Buffel is someone with a lot of expierience in this kind of games, but thats it. When we see the game Genk played in Brugge, it was terrible! they played really poor, and you could see pressure was taking over! In Standard's team thats way different. Bolat, Pocognoli, Defour, Witsel, V. Damme, Tchité they all played (and eve won?) a title in their history. I'm not sure about Pocognoli but didn't he won 1 with AZ? the rest did win a title! they have played a lot more games like this and played champions league games. Standard won't choke in this game I believe, but I'm affraid Genk will! Thats why my final bet from this years Jupiler Pro League is Standard to win! High stakes!! Standard to be the champion!! gl all!!! :hope:hope
