  1. Re: Heads up against AA

best hand heads up against AA is 67s with a 26% chance of winning we need to add 30 to a pot of 70 so even with the best possible hand we are not getting odds to call.
What is in the pot preflop is totally irrelevant to no limit poker with deep stacks. As long as you both have loads behind you. I would call and see if I could flop a big hand. Its worth doing. He might even think your pretending you have a big hand cos youve both seen the AA etc. May as well call tbh.
  2. Re: what to do when.... Take a break and when you feel like playing again - play. It doesnt sound to me like your enjoying your poker much at the moment and that means its time for a break.

  3. Re: Yet another what would you do!!

...You don't fold top pair HU... you just don't!!!!
LOL you clearly cant have read mine and guesswests amongst others comments here. Its not the end of an STT when youve got 10bb each its totally different when its stacks like this. Guesswests post is spot on btw
  4. Re: What would you do? I think this was just a sympathy thread wasnt it :lol no bugger in their right mind would fold that :lol If there was any doubt if he has the K flush (and theres 0 reason to think this anyway) then surely it disapears when he goes straight all in off the bat, the nuts doesnt do that here. Ahh the old 'what defines a bad beat' discussion. Personally im quite lenient with the old bad beat classification :lol Basically I personally think its a bad beat if I feel aggrieved to have lost the hand. Where this begins for me is if I get all in with a pair against a lower pair eg AA v KK. Im WELL aware this will be turned over 1 in 5 but lets face it we all think were gona win that one when we get it and I do feel cheated when I lose with it :lol So I think anything 80% and up is a 'bad beat'. Its not a horrendous beat or anything but it is a bit sucky. Whats this with GAF saying a 1 outer isnt a bad beat! fcuk that mate! How often dyou get done by 1 outers? Hardly ever happens

Er - 1 out with one card to come isn't that unlikely either - will happen 1 time in 47!!! Wouldn't want to risk my life on it, but hardly an earth shattering shock if it comes in is it!!! When people talk of "Bad Beats", they are implying horrendously unlikely shocks where the cards have really conspired against them!!!! One out with one card to come nowhere near falls into that category for me ..... the amount of poker we all play it would be a shock if we didn't see that happen dozens of times a night.......
You see dozens of 1 outers every night wtf? I cant remember the last time I was all in and lost to a 1 outer and I play every day
  5. Re: Is it just me or..? Not much wrong there really. First one just a shitty river, may as well just push all in on the turn straight off the bat but it would have turned out the same. Second one played perfect preflop and on flop (well id bet pot on flop no doubt but 4/5 pot isnt anything much to worry yourself about). Bit of a weak turn bet is all. I wouldnt be so sure what he has calling on that flop really but no need to presume your not ahead. Check for draws and bet accordingly, no flush draw but 75 and 98 for straight draws, 75 completed but itd be very unlucky for him to have that. 98 is a possibility though so bet £5 or so here. That is something to improve on but at least it wasnt a total pussy bet, just a bit weak. Your still betting and nice favourite, looks like your playing well and getting unlucky to me.

  6. Re: Yet another what would you do!! Again i am not picking in a harsh way at all merely making points, you cant just say things like this

As Pene said earlier, pair of A's is massive HU - I'd call.
You have to consider what the other guy has not just what YOU have here. A hand like this is not a massive hand AT ALL in a HU game of this manner at this stage of the game. Poker is aaaaall about the stacks. Im a cash game player used to 100bb stacks, this was 250bb and I guarantee id be laying down AK here it would so rarely be infront.
  7. Re: Would you call this? That is a tricky one there due to the huuuuge blinds. If the stacks were a bit bigger then its a fold but with those stacks hmm. Youre never ahead by THAT much tbh with a hand like A6 if you are ahead and if hes ahead of you then you could be in as a 2/1 dog a lot of the time. To be fair its hard to argue fold or call too much either way though, I couldnt fault either choice with those kind of blinds.

  8. Re: Yet another what would you do!! There is no debate here, im very very suprised anybody is saying its a call at all. When you see someone 'wake up' on the turn its usually a big hand that they were slowplaying. The top pair got check raised on the turn then re-re-raised all in. Its almost without doubt a minimum of 2 pair. Id be shocked to just see top pair with the way the betting goes. And even then your beat with your kicker unless its A2 specifically. Some people are talking about the odds of the top pair being up against a better hand HU - its inconsequential these sorts of arguments when you have witnessed a hand play out with the betting patterns. If you look at a board of A863 and are asked is A4 likely to be the best hand HU, you say yes which is fine. But when presented with the fact the flop went check/check then youve been checkraised on the turn then re-re raised all in it kind of paints a different light on matters. I dont see someone putting in 250bb HU on a bluff, period and certainly not in that manner of play. And all Top pair crap kicker is beating is a bluff here. Fold it and play on with your 4.3k no damage done. Im not having a go in any way, learn from it deep stack poker like this is not about all ins with hands like top pair crap kicker.

  9. Re: HU question

I cannot see him not raising if he has K9+ that would be silly He might call a PF raise with K6 and below, but he would be mad to do so which leave K7 K8 - has he got one of theses hands? dunno - and the m/r is also a silly bet, if i am drawing Ax suited, I am calling! I just think this m/r is very very odd
A key thing to remember here is who your playing. You dont have a clue, its a fairly cheap internet game, he could be a complete beginner really. All your points are true of decent players but if hes not a decent player (which is a pretty big chance) then I dont think theres too much need to get too specific with this. Always good to think of what your up against for sure. But tbh you just see poor play all the time, if he has a King I wouldnt be suprised to see AK or crap like K2 sooooted!
  10. Re: HU question To be fair here (with the hand analysis) I am speaking from a perspective of being HU in a full ring cash game pot cos thats where I play almost all my poker. Seriously though beware the min raiser! So often a strong hand although i agree in this particular circumstance it could easily be a draw or even a bit of a bluff. On the bet size subject, yeah you dont have to be pot here. I always think when I make a bet with a good hand etc that I just pretend the draws are out there. It encourages good betting. Just assume for the purposes of your bet he has a flush draw, so you want to be betting 2/3 pot at least. This way you get value on your good hands when they call and you can never make a mistake of allowing a draw in cheap. I dont like probe betting or betting for information and such things like that really, just not my style. If I were to make such a type of bet I would bet 1/2 the pot. Thered have to be some weird reason for me to ever bet less than half the pot. So yeah the 120 fits the bill there.

  11. Re: HU question Guesswest makes good points altho imo its nowhere near 9/10 he has the draw here. I see min raise move with top pair quite a lot and also a lot with very strong hands like sets. Proceed with caution here and it sucks being out of position here. I guess its worth a call but its a pretty dodgy situation. Your problems I think stem somewhat from your weak flop bet though (Im not having a go just cos of the other thread though mate im being honest!). I dont really know what that sort of weak bet really achieves. Id probly stick a good 200 out there on this flop. If he raises that bet then thats pretty strong and id lay down. By betting a good amount you have a very decent chance hell just fold and you win the pot.

  12. Re: Playing tactically...

You're a 60% fav with payout odds of 2-1!! "not great"? Are you having a laff? :P I'm taking that EVERY time - absolutely nothing to consider and it seems madness to me to suggest otherwise!!!! 50% favourite with payout odds of 2-1 when I am short stacked? Still fantastic and still a total no brainer ........
At least someones speaking sense! :ok
  13. Re: Playing tactically...

sigh - you are not coin flipping against any pair with AK - you are behind 55/45 or so - that is not a coin flip, that is a dog, and a bigger dog against 2
Its what we call coinflipping come on, I know its not EXACTLY 50/50 but its pretty close. 2 overcards vs an underpair is a coinflip, its what its called termwise I think you know thats what I meant.
yes i might fold KK, probably not, but might - it depends on table reads, how much more the reraise was and is villian one calling as well - how the rest of the table are playing, what average stack is etc etc etc just because you have pretty Kings doesn't make this an auto call - it is worth a think about at least - have you opportunities to fold and shove the next hand when you have fold equity?
Folding KK would be a massive mistake. Your only behind against 1 hand! Whats with this shoving with 5bb with fold equity thing about when you can triple up with KK? I seriously would be interested to know if anyone else agrees with folding Queens or Kings here cos its 100% wrong.
I'll let you do some maths on what they had and what they might have had - just run some figures through pokerstove etc and play around with hands to see what might happen
Youre pretty condescending I think with your sighing and sarcasm for no reason at all. Im guessing you havent seen me around here before cos I dont post that much anymore but I really dont need to use any programs to see odds and outcomes etc.
  14. Re: Playing tactically...

If I had taken the pot I would have been in a decent position (maybe 4th biggest stack) going into the final table. This was my rationale for making the call. The point about prize money distribution is a good one. At Eccy road, like many other places, all the cash is in the top three places really. Come 10th, 9th, 8th you're only really getting your buyins back.
Reading on that cements it for me as well. I cant believe youd probably fold QQ either I really cant! Its all about stack sizes, if id have say 10-12bb I could see some sort of folding argument coming in with the AK but not really not on 5bb, thats critical man. Have you even really got any fold equity anyway with such a stack, not much is there tbh.
  15. Re: Playing tactically...

    coin flipping? you reckon? :lol
Why the mocking tones? Did you not read the original post they had Tens and Eights as it turned out. Hardly a ridiculous scenario!
errr NO NO NO a pot raise followed by a reraise and you want to play AK? crikey JJ is definately being folded here, QQ probably, KK maybe, AA I am calling
If you maybe fold KK here, thats absolutely ridiculous. Totally ridiculous infact, you have 5bb left. AA you are calling you say? REALLY Im well aware theres no fold equity in this but with such a short stack with a hand that could easily win you have to go with it imo.
  16. Re: Playing tactically... Your 6/7 handed with AKs and 5bb left, its a no brainer there imo. Worth a think due to the bet and raise but still gotta go with it on that stack, your probly gona coinflip there but absolutely no reason to think your up against AA or KK in which case you gamble there.

  17. Re: Made Flush... Now how to make it pay? You could debate a raise or call on the flop, eithers ok (if i flopped any a lower flush than Khi id defo be raising it). With Khi or Ahi flush its ok to call though as long as the pots fairly small. But you gota raise the turn now, 450 in the pot, its ok to win right now. If he folds still a decent pot and if he has the Ad or 2pair/set you have to make him pay to try and suck out no doubt about it. Bet 450-650 here imo. I like the 650 bet, thats what id do but I know a lot of people like to bet smaller in tournies (im a cash game player tbh).

  18. Re: Watch the WSOP final table live on ESPN.com (Pay Per View) Dont know if anyone of you guys have seen this link, was from yesterday. Probably just Gold trying to take pressure off himself but interesting nonetheless now were getting near the crunch. Well I dont have the link anymore lol but heres the main part im talking about

"There might be a story,'' Gold said, "if I dump at the end because I don't want to be famous.'' Excuse me? "Dump at the end''? Isn't it every player's dream to win this one event? "I don't want to be famous,'' Gold said while sitting in the Bodog lounge before Day 6 of the event Monday. "I'm not sure if I want to win. And I'm in control of that.'' The stunning epiphany hit the 36-year-old Malibu, Calif., resident earlier that morning. "I just thought about what would happen if I won,'' Gold said. "Out of the goodness of their heart, a lot of people would feel like they needed to talk to me, they'd want to know what I was doing, cameras would follow me around. I don't want my life on display. I don't have anything to hide. I'm just not that person. I've always been behind other people. I like making other people famous. I'm not comfortable being in the spotlight. I like my private life. "I also don't want to be responsible for being the ambassador of poker or anything like that. What Greg Raymer does is amazing. Good for him. I'm not looking to quit my job. I like the job I do. I don't need the money. I'm not doing this for the money. I love the competition.'' The money, though. It's $12 million. "The money will help my father,'' Gold said. "But $6 million will help him, too. I would rather come in second.'' Suddenly, this raises the question of the way he might play his hands. The integrity issue comes into play. "I haven't decided what I'm doing,'' he said. "If it's inappropriate, I won't do it. I'm just telling you that if I had to plan it out, coming in second would be more satisfying to me.''
