BBOTD - Saturday 4th September

14:30 Haydock 17 runners currently line up for this class 2 handicap over the minimum trip. There seems to be a slight bias towards the horses drawn high so I have drawn my attention to those drawn high and my selection will be bolting out of stall 15. Noel Wilson saddles up Pavershooz in this race in what is his only runner of the day. Its clear the horse is a bit of a sprint specialist having won three times and finished 2nd once from 6 runs over the minimum trip. He has also won once from 4 runs over an extended 5 furlongs and finally one win over 6 furlongs. His most recent wins have all been over 5 furlongs, he won three times over the distance in 2009 and is now only 1lb higher than his career best effort at Ayr back in July 2009. Started the season off a handicap mark of 92 and after three fairly poor efforts, he was dropped down to a mark of 87 (1lb lower than his win at Ayr) where he finished a very creditable 2nd to Favourite Girl who he faces again today off 2lb better terms for a three quarter length defeat which I feel he can reverse today. Two runs since have not been too inspiring but to be fair he didn't have the best of the draw in either race, was 8/17 at Ripon over 6 furlongs on his penultimate start but was 2nd of 7 in group before finishing 8/11 at Sandown LTO where he weakened inside the final furlong. Versatile when it comes to the going as he has won on GF, GD and GS ground conditions but its fair to say he acts better on good ground or ground on the soft side of good so todays conditions look sure to suit him perfectly. Neil Callan takes the ride for the first time which I find interesting as he doesn't ride for the trainer very often with only 7 previous runs for Noel and although that has resulted in 0 winners I don't believe that will hinder this horses chances at all as he is a very capable jockey. 0.5pts E/W Pavershooz @ 12/1 (VC Bet - BOG)

Re: BBOTD - Saturday 4th September Every single day we end up opposing each other. :lol 2:30 Haydock - Archers Road - .5pts e/w @ 14/1 (Stan James - BOG) Trained by my favourite trainer, David Barron. Ran well last time out when a 3l 4th behind the ever improving Perfect Blossom, he veered badly right at the start of that race and ran well considering, it was on rapid ground also which isn't his forte. The ground today should be Good/Good-to-Soft which should be perfect for him. He's an ultra consistent horse and has only been out of the top four on 5 of 19 occasions, 4 places are paid here assuming things stay as they are which should help. He had many a good run at Listed level and now is making his 4th handicap start, I expect he'll win again pretty soon, he won first time out off this mark for his new stable and David Barron has a very good record in these sorts of races and with this sort of horse. He was a good 2 year old for Mick Channon winning 3 times during a hectic season in which he ran 16 times. There is a lot of impressive form throughout his previous races and I expect he'll give a good account of himself here, he's severely overpriced at 14/1 and I had him as an 8/1 shot in this race. Paul Mulrennan takes the ride which is interesting as he rarely rides for Sir Barron and he has also been riding well of late. David Barron has a good 14% strike rate on course and only comes here with this fellow today. He is 5/15 (33%) at the course since this time last year and his horses clearly go well here, I expect a big run from Archers Road and he has a lot going for him bar the low draw, but with his running style I don't expect that to be too big a problem and the lowest stall won this race last year. 14/1 is great value for his chances and if he's that price come race time I'll be surprised, also if there's money from him tomorrow I may also have to jump in again as any well backed Barron horse is worth following. He should go well.
