4.30 Newbury Desert Poppy is progressing nicely but this is a competitive heat and he was hanging badly left last time out which is a slight worry. Equuleus pictor is slipping to a good mark and run his best race yet this season but he was able to get his toe into the ground not guaranteed to get that today and was still well held, gonna opt for Brandywell Boy to bounce straight back to form after completely missing the break last time out and was then not given a hard time, he was in the form of his life prior to that winning 3 on the trot and although handicapper may be catching up with him Im willing to give him another chance off this mark. 0.5pt e/w Brandywell Boy 8/1 bet365

Re: Newbury - Sunday 1st August Shimmering Surf 4.30 Newbury 14-1 >Bet365 Wedding March 4.30 Newbury 8-1 Stan James 3 year olds have a good record in this race and there are only 4 to concentrate on this year. All of them look capable of improvement but the ones most likely to see the most support are Pipette and Gallic Star. Pipette was 2nd to Snow Fairy and that has gone on to win two Group 1 races, franking that form of a 3l defeat. Gallic Star was 3rd in the Ribblesdale at Ascot and drops from Grp2 to listed class. The other two 3 yr olds are priced at around 8-1 and 14-1 and it could be worth taking a chance on Shimmering Surf at 14-1. It was 2nd to Timepiece as a 2 yr old, won a maiden this year stepped up to 10f and was running on at the end of the last race, also over 10f when 3rd in a listed race to Eleanora Duse. The step up to 12f is an unknown but it won its maiden race on Gd-Fm. Wedding March looked good as a 2 yr old, not beaten far in group company but was last and beaten 41l when racing against Snow Fairy in a listed race at Goodwood. If forgiven that run it would stand a big chance at a decent price.
