3 yr olds vs Elders

Recently I have backed two 3 year olds in all age handicaps where obviously they receive a weight allowance. Karaka Jack from the Johnston yard was one I backed twice and he finished 9/12 and 6/10. I also backed Fantastic Strike on Tuesday night who was 7/8. I do remember my Dad telling me years ago that a certain age didn't do well against the older horses so I am guessing it could be 3 year olds, if this is the case then why?

Re: 3 yr olds vs Elders I try to avoid races with more than 1 or 2 three year olds in the field against elders. I find it difficult to work out how much the weight allowance is going to effect the race so just avoid them all together.
