Been puzzled by this one. All the money came for him before the off in the Irish Champion Hurdle. He was again keen and didn't settle. Came there with some sort of challenge, but couldn't finish due to his earlier exertions. If he grows an year older and learns to settle he might still be a genuine Grade performer imo. Settled well in the champion bumper, because Morning Supreme set a brisk pace and it helped him. It doesn't look a very strong bumper though. Nothing has performed well from there this season. All in all I think Dunguib will improve when eventually he learns to settle. They should ride him covered by lots of horses and not worry about his jumping. It has improved a lot and he jumped pretty well last week. If they do that, then he'll be a very good hurdler. Possibly just short of top class and it'll be very tough to beat Binocular, Hurricane Fly and Khyber Kim. I'm a novice in the ranks though and I am not sure if there's ever been a champion bumper winner both in England and Ireland, who has build on and won grade 1s over timber? And the Champion Hurdle itslef?

Re: Dunguib Monsignor looked special but was badly injured and Florida Pearl made a cracking chaser in later years but apart from that the winners havnt set the world alight. Trouble is Dunguib is rated very highly (149?) and will have no choice but to run in the top races so needs to learn quick. The Irish races in the build up to the festival have so few runners that its hard to see them settling him in and educating him. Still think he his above average and you never know he may well go on to make a great chaser one day.
