Proposed Lay Of The Day Comp 2010

Recommended Posts

Many will know we have been discussing the way forward for the BBOTD comp in another thread and a few members have expressed an interest in starting a Lay competition next year. I propose to give this a go on Jan 1st and see how we go, I reckon the mainframe of the rules should be the same as the BBOTD ones, things like stakes, time of post, reasoning etc...... The only sticking point that I can see and something others may have a view on is how we stake the lays. As its a Lay only comp I would like to implement 'place' lays aswell as this gives members more opportunities for laying shorter prices as I reckon with the profits being on the small side this would also give players a chance of making up lost ground as my only reservation with the lay comp is that once you get behind or join in late you wont be able to catch the leaders and therefore the interest will drop off quickly, unlike the BBOTD where you can select much bigger odds. Betfair have a results page which gives the BF SP of every horse win and place, we could use this as a way of calculating the prices, now I know the lay price is bigger than the back price but as everyone is laying does this matter, wont everyones price be relevant with each others? Also I know the BF SP is bigger than the normal SP but again if everyone is in the same boat is it that much of a problem? I cant see a way of being able to take a price as I cant check them on Betfair, they vanish as soon as the race is over as far as I can see. Anyway guys, have a think about it and if you want to do it any different then lets discuss it, we have a couple of weeks to sort it. BH

Re: Proposed Lay Of The Day Comp 2010 Hi BH, What about the races with non-runners (re places). Obviously, bookies have different rules regarding non-runners, so a place position is stripped off if the race goes from 8 to 7 horses. However, betfair keeps this at the usual amount. My concern is that it is possible that one (you are scoring I suppose?) would be unable to easily ascertain if 2 or 3 horses should place in a 7-horse race. Would you be willing to check for every race? It could be cumbersome!
