Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec

1.50 Cheltenham Offshore Account - lightly raced because of a tendon injury that kept him off the track for the whole of 2009 but was targeted at the National off the back of just one run over hurdles and is potentially well handicapped on his current chase mark in my opinion. Unshipped his rider at the first in the Hennessy when last seen but the booking of Denis O'Regan, who knows how to ride him, catches the eye and could go well at a price. 22/1 Hills. 1 pt win.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 2.50 Southwell Several course specialists here. But salerosa continues to improve with every run round here with 5 runs and 4 wins and a second behind another course specialist Miss Glitters but got back on track last time out in much hotter company than this beating Mcconel by a length a 2lb rise in weigts looks far from harsh and is likely to continue improving on this surface. 1pt win salerosa

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 3.10 Doncastor 0.5 E/W SLICK MOVER In the last at donny SLICK MOVER takes the eye from the in form Brendan Powell yard. Running in a handicap hurdle race for the first time having faired ok in a couple of novice races now stepped up in trip and on better ground. Jock Warren Marston was in the plate on those two occasions and is today thought he would have been on the very useful Wolf Moon at Cheltenham he has a couple of mounts earlier in this card but this looks to be his best chance. Trainer horses have a habit of popping up when not expected. Noticed he had another runner entered up put it has been pulled out. Should be a big double figure price hopefully.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 12:40 Cheltenham I tipped up Trafalgar Road on here for his last run when he ended up 3/12 at Newbury. Put in a good run that day and ran on well to snatch 3rd place on the line. The softer going today may suit him better since he won on Heavy going at Haydock on his first run of the season over the distance. The ground at Cheltenham LTO was only Good To Soft although he has won on Good To Soft in the past as well. He is still lightly raced with only 7 runs so is definately still open to improvement and a win from todays mark of 127 is certainly achievable. 1pt win

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec Cheltenham 1.15pm Garde Champetre 1pt lay Horse loves this course having won 4 times at the track ,the lay is C&D and will get the trip but imv LTO at this track on 13/10/09 won but was driven out at the line and this says to me that a few in this race can and will press this horse and one will get the first run on the lay which i think will beat this horse. 3 others in the race stand out for me today one being Silver Birch who imv can go in at big odds of 15.00 on Betfair at the mo and is great value EW and place odds of 3.30 for 4 places Betfair. Silver Birch ran against the lay on 30th April 09 at Punchestown in 4m 2f race and got beat by 2L but the fact that stands for me is that Silver Birch can get the trip today and imv can win, laying. Goodluck Whatever You Bet Today

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 11.30 Southwell: Always Dixie Win Hasn't been seen since April when 3rd in a 5f maiden at Musselburgh so fitness has to be taken on trust. However, on breeding looks as if this step up in trip and change of surface could suit, so will be surprised if not involved at the finish.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec NOBLE ALAN - 12.50 - Doncaster Noble Alan is a class act, as he displayed when cutting through the field to win the Scottish Champion Hurdle last season. Already seen twice over fences this year, he was footperfect on debut at Hexham, winning cosily, yet he fell LTO at Musselburgh. It is thought that a horse making a serious error infront of him distracted him that day, and he should bounce back here and give weight to the rest of the field. He is classy, and should not have too much trouble beating Secret Tune again, as he did in the Champion Hurdle. WIN

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 335 Cheltenham: Cootehill EW Tricky day for the novice races today with no stand out bet for me but Cootehill in the last at Cheltenham has far the best form on offer and is around 10/1 at the moment, the reason is the three wise men, Nicholls, Henderson and King all have well regarded bumper horses making their debuts. I expect at least one of them to be a smart hurdler but got to take the chance that Cootehill may be able to get involved and squeeze into the frame for a profit.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 11:30 Southwell - Always Dixie - Back The 252 day lay off is a slight concern, but hopefully any problems have been sorted. The money was down on debut and they almost collected. Better debut than anything else in this field. Fairley may well try and win this from the front, and hard to see him getting beaten if fit 1pt win

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 12:05 Cheltenham. Weird Al. 1 point LAY My future son-in-law is called Al, and supports Charlton, and that's about as weird as you can get IMHO. However, that's not the reason for choosing this one! This is a fascinating novices chase with only 5 runners, none of whom are without a chance. The selection is very lightly raced, this being only his 4th appearance. LTO, after a year away, he came out for his first chase and caused a big-priced shock, over this course, beating a classy opponent that has gone on to win again since. You can therefore understand why he is likely to start favourite today. However, that win by just a neck could prove his undoing. Under the conditions of today's race he would have carried 11st, but that neck has resulted in him carrying an additional 8lbs. That could prove crucial today. Furthermore, as good as that win was in his last race, I wasn't that impressed with his jumping, and he may well be suffering from inexperience over these larger obstacles. I feel any chink in his jumping ability today could be a problem against some decent opponents.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 12:05 Cheltenham - Awesome George (LAY) 1pt Tricky opener. I expect the price on the Awesome George to drop even more. But in my opinion it is either Minella Theatre or Weird Al that will win this race. Awesome George was taken well to fences and will be hard to beat, but Minella Theatre is showing big improvement for fences and Weird Al with obvious chances to win this one after year off. The others two also with chance. In a word: very competitive affair and I favor the least Awesome George for that price. :hope

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 1.50 Cheltenham - Offshore Account e/w Might have bigger plans for the spring, but has been dropped 7 pounds after the Hennessy fall and is handicapped extremely well for today's race. Anything over 16/1 is value imo and I like O'Regan on board, who'll help the horse jump better and present him at the fences properly. If he runs to his novice form he has every chance of winning here.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 150 Cheltenham - According to Pete - ew An OR of 139 looks attractive, having run a decent race off 142 behind Tranquil Sea last time. Ground and trip should be fine and he can continue to progress from the form he showed last year.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 21:20 Wolves Although Coeur De Lionne has not run at Wolves before, I fancy him to take this open race. Had an impressive win by 2 lengths at newmarket and has since run a few decent races. Losing to a Godolphin - Bam al salam, and King's Salute who is 2/2 on the AW. It has won off higher weights than it is running at tonight, so hopefully he will prove he can run here too. 1pt Win Coeur De Lionne

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 6.50 Wolverhampton Istiqdaam 1pt win He's won at 7F two runs ago at Kempton off a mark of 57 and his next run saw him run off a mark of 65 while taking a step up in class, he ran creditably there but only managed 2nd. Back down in class today to a class 6, he's carrying topweight off a mark of 65 again and could run well with conditions to suit, he's also 2lb better off with Crystallize after beating him at Kempton last time but one. The trainer, M W Easterby is in good form having had 8 wins/3 places from his last 20 runners (Shadows Lengthen won for him again today in an earlier race!). Trainer has 4 wins/3 places from 20 here at Wolverhampton. And the trainer/jockey combo is running to 4 wins/5 places from their last 18 together.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 21:20wolv Dance The star win This is a horse I want to follow for the winter aw season having been first brought to my attention in Billy's thread in the summer. He is far better on polytrack than turf. I backed him lto and martin lane found trouble 3 times in the straight including having to be reigned back and losing momentum when a gap closed. he still only lost by a neck and the handicapper was impressed by putting him up 3lb for losing. If he had not met trouble lto he would have been an easy winner so a 3lb increase should not stop him. The main danger is the gambled Irsh raider who has run poorly of late but now dropped to a dangerous mark if returning to previous form. The only other danger is that I have backed him in an ew double with Istaqdaam at 6/4 and I would hate to throw away a winner that went off at half the price!

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 2120 Wolverhampton Nanton 1 pt win Has won twice on two outings here at Wolverhampton, which coupled by the fact that he prefers left-handed course, would help! Top weight in the race, but runs with 7 lb less compared to LTO, and 3lb less compared to last win 4 races ago. Definite contender I think, and should hopefully win.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec KIRSTY'S LAD 8.20 Wolverhampton. 0.5 points each way. Not a win machine, but has the ability to go well in context with this evening's race. The trip and surface shouldn't be a concern and Greg Fairley would appear a decent booking. The race should pan out in his favour and gets in off a mark that's lenient on best form.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec Coueur De Lionne 9.20 Wolverhampton Couer De Lionne seems to go very well for Steve Drowne, he has been on board 9 times and has 3 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds. 10 other jockeya have ridden the horse and only Hayley Turner has been able to win on it apart from Drowne. It has 2 wins over 1m3f and 2 wins over 1m4f but has never raced here, although it has 3 wins and 2 places from 6 runs at Kempton. Steve Drowne often tracks the leaders on this horse, sitting just off the pace and those tactics could be ideal for this race, it has finished 2nd and 3rd on its last 2 runs at Lingfield and Kempton. Its last winning all weather mark was 92 at Kempton, goes off 87 here but no course experience. Full race preview in Wolverhampton thread. :ok

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 8.20 Wolverhampton - Kirstys Lad E/W Going with an outsider in Kirstys Lad who is currently at 20/1. Is now down to a mark of 46 and seemed to get on better with Greg Fairley lto only going down by 3 lengths here at Wolverhampton. All his best form has come here including his only 3 wins.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec DABBERS RIDGE 8.50 Wolverhampton. 0.5 points each way. Trip and ground not a concern and although the draw's not the best, I think he can gain a good early position and then attack when the race hots up. Handicapper gives him a chance, so I just hope the race pans out as expected.

Re: Best bet of the day - Fri 11th Dec 9.20 Wolv - Sgt Schultz - win Cracking race this one ! I fancy the Sarge might come on for his run at Ling a couple of weeks ago as that was his first run for nearly 6 months and was an obvious pipe-opener over an inadequate trip. He's now dropped to below his last winning mark and steps back up to 12 furlongs. So he's fresh horse, fairly handicapped and the yard is in good form A few in this race have been creeping up the weights for being placed, a couple look to need further than this and a couple just look plain out of form. I suppose the Irish horse will probably win but he's no value and I'll take Schutzy to cause an upset !
