PREMIER SAGAS - Newcastle - 12.25 The connections of Monet's Garden will be hoping that Premier Sagas will just be half as successful. A fairly decent 'bumper' year last season saw Premier Sagas finish 3rd on debut, before winning at Kelso and finishing a respectable 7th at Aintree at the Grand National meeting (after getting very worked up in the preliminaries). His hurdling debut comes tomorrow at another northern track, Newcastle. Nicky Richards is bullish over the geldings chances this season, stating that he is likely to become 'a smashing hurdler'. It would be a major surprise if Premier Sagas did not progress into a very decent novice hurdler this season, and despite taking on 15 rivals here tomorrow he should be quite prominent in the betting. I would imagine that despite being off track for over 200 days he will be fit to race, and should hold a major chance in this event where his only real danger may be Nocturnal Knight who has the benefit of a recent run and will certainly be fit. The race Premier Sagas won at Kelso was on soft ground, so he will certainly appreciate the going at Newcastle tomorrow which is likely to be testing to say the least - another pointer towards Premier Sagas making a successful hurdling debut. WIN

Re: Best bet of the day - Nov 13th 8.50 Wolverhampton Carcinetto - David Evans' filly is capable on her day and won a heritage handicap off this mark at Chester earlier in the season. That came over an extended seven furlongs and although most of her racing is done over shorter, she often finds herself tapped for toe, such as at Newmarket on the 1st of October when running on behind Sea of Leaves, but all too late. She has no problems handling polytrack at all, as she has won 8-44 on the all-weather, including once at this track, and over an extended mile tonight I think she could run a race. She wasn't disgraced here last time out in a fillies listed race but her fate tonight will depend on the tactics Richard Evans adopts. If he holds her up, she may as well not bother turning up, but if he gets her up with the pace - which she is equally comfortable doing - then she could have every chance. 14/1 Coral, 0.5 pt EW (3 places, 1/4 odds).
