All weather racing? Will we see more? Opinions?

Recommended Posts

Thought be interested to get peoples thoughts on all weather racing We all know it tends to be low class events but can this be improved in the future? Will we see more AW venues? Do you enjoy it? Personally i enjoy all weather racing tend to find it a great punting opportunity with plenty of out of form horses coming back to their favored racing surfaces I enjoy it during the winter kept me going last year as struggle over the jumps I feel more needs to be done to get all weather racing to a bit higher class like in america and dubai and many other countries Not sure whether we will see anymore venues anytime soon since the colapse of great leighs and if im not mistaken there was plans for one at ffos las which fell through aswell? but personally would love to see more venues and make AW racing a 3 main stay of horse racing like in many other countries!!

Re: All weather racing? Will we see more? Opinions? I like it..... When it first started it was very poor and I just ignored it. Then I had 10-12 years away from following the sport and came back a couple of years ago and was a still sniffy about AW racing - for one thing I was shocked that Kempton had gone........all those races like the Easter Stakes and roseberry handicap, and now they were being run on polytrack............:loon But gradualy over the last couple of years I've got to really appreciate it and the giant strides it's made over the last 15 years. The general fare is still low grade handicaps but there are a lot of quality races now........Class 2 and class 3 handicaps, listed races etc. And some really good horses run there - Ghanaati for example. And of course the huge advantage that they can run under lights so we get evening meetings during the winter, which is great for armchair telly watching fans. I don't really want any more tracks........purely from a selfish viewpoint, the less there is the easier it is to study the form. During the winter one or two meetings a day is just fine, I wouldn't want 5 a day. I'm not keen on these mixed meetings at Lingfield, I wish they'd scrap those and have either one or the other. Big shame about Great leighs, it was a terific track and was 'different' to all the others, being galloping by nature and not tight. Suited different horses which would have fitted in nicely with the way i approach form study I'm getting ready for the AW season by having a go at compiling speed fugures............not started using them yet, but hope to have a few months worth by November !.............:lol I think my enthusiasm for the AW is partly due to getting a bit pee'd off with the regular mountain of turf racing which is now just sliding over my head. It's kind of 'the grass is always greener'..........but that seems to be the way of life........... Couple of class 3 handicaps at Southwell tomorrow !
