Success Stories of 2009

Ignoring the obvious trainers such as Stoute, O'Brien and Hannon and big name jockeys like Moore and Hughes, who have you been impressed with or who has proved you wrong this season? For me, Ruth Carr and Ann Duffield were two trainers I tended to avoid as much as possible last year, but this year both girls have had good seasons compared to last year and I'd like to congratulate them on their great work. I seem to remember reading that Ruth Carr set herself the target of reaching 20 winners this flat season, she's now on 23 and going strong, due, in part, to the excellent form of Silvestre de Sousa who has enjoyed a fantastic season himself. She managed 8-141 last term, so 23-135 is good going, and good luck to her for the rest of the season. Ann Duffield has managed 18-143 this season compared to 9-177 last season, so she too is another than has improved plenty this term. The common denominator for her seems to be that De Sousa has ridden plenty of winners for her too. Silvestre rode 33-266 winners last turf season, now he's beaten that total with fewer rides having managed 35-225. Although Paul Hanagan's figures are quite comparable to last year (60 turf winners now, 82 last year) he has won in better races this year and is going to beat last years total of prize money. :clap Who else have people been impressed/suprised with?
