3.45 Newton Abbot - Quattrocento (win) This Peter Bowen trained gelding can boast one stat that only a handful of horses can match - he's won at Ffos Las! That was lto and was a 24f affair over hurdles. He worked hard to get on top there and this step up to 26.5f will suit. That was a confidence booster after a poor effort over fences at Aintree the time before. Any horse can be forgiven a poor run, especially there and he's otherwise pretty consistent. He ran here over this CD at the end of March and was booked to go very close when making a terrible hash of the last. Richard Johnson somehow stayed aboard and they only lost 2nd on the run-in. Johnson resumes the partnership today, and, on the back of the confidence boosting hurdles win lto, the duo can add to Peter Bowen's recent good record at Newton Abbot (9 winners from 38 runners for a 8.38 lsp).

Re: BBOTD - Mon 13th July 145 Newton Abbot : Ring For Time Candle and Ring For Time head the betting here, Candle has been too free in his races and then last time ran ok in a handicap over this sort of trip, may want soft ground too. Ring For Time is fancied on his run out of novice comapany too when he won well at Stratford, last time he never got in a blow at the leaders behind Billy Magern, however that was a decent race and the extra trip might help. Sylroy was well beaten at Fflos Las last time but this is much easier and has beat Candle before but the weights are in Candles favour now. At the prices I'd rather take on Candle with the other two.
