8.50 Pontefract 17 runners are declared for this sprint handicap but many of them look exposed and thus I think it may be worth keeping faith with Mark of Meydan, who I feel has been given a nice handicap mark recently. He was second beyond Harrison George in a Doncaster maiden last year and that rival has developed into a smart sprinter and is 90-rated. Mark of Meydan is rated just 70, after his mark was eased 2 lb after a disappointing fifth on his handicap debut at Newcastle last time out. I was expecting a little bit more than day but am hoping that he needed the run as it was only his second start back this term. He is drawn on the rail here which is crucial in large fields, he hails from a yard in good nick at present, and I think he could have a chance at a likely double figure price. After just four starts, it is likely he has more to offer.

Re: Pontefract (eve) - 8/6/09 9.20 Pontefract Namir Good effort last time out at Doncaster on good to firm going at around 18/1. Close 2nd despite getting stuck in running at least twice and having to switch to the centre from a rail position. Will appriciate the stiffer track and the rain that's about.
