Re: Royal Ascot

Must admit that I'm not overly keen on these foreign runners............... OK- Ireland and France - we know the form, British, Irish and French horses run against each other all the time. But these foreign sprinters..........and now I hear that American two year olds are going to be running in the Coventry and other big 2YO races...........well, they're unknown quantities ! Great for the spectacle but not so great for betting or picking winners. If there are unknown quantities in a race I tend to just leave it alone.............how can you hope to pick a Coventry winner when there are US horses with no form lines to Europe. They might be months ahead of our horses in training etc. Being not much of a punter I'm not that bothered but it would put me off betting in those races
definitely an unknown as we dont get many American horses over here, i assume they are staying with one of the main UK stables? Perhaps that may be a pointer to thier chances i.e in what ownership they are? 2yo races at Ascot are very difficult - 100/1 Flashmans Papers last year!! The uk trainers that tend to do well are the likes of Channon & Best, the northern trainers may bring thier best one down & the Newmarket trainers tend to wait until later in the season to show thier cards. I probably wont bother unless i get a tip!

Re: Royal Ascot i will look back at previous years, i couldnt pick a gold cup winner if i tried all night, i love the Hunt cup & normally fare ok with a few runners, the Grp1 sprints have beaten me over the last few years. Ribblesdale could be interesting to see what lines up from the Oaks. i will also try to find Godolphins 1 winner at the meeting :loon

Re: Royal Ascot There aren't many US runners coming across I dont think Trotter - definitely none of their top 2 year olds anyway. Bowles: No, they are staying under the stewardship of their trainer, Wesley Ward. Not sure how good he is mind - dont tend to bet that much at Churchill bar the big meets.

Royal Ascot bets Bets 14 Wins 4 Staked 140pts Returns 194.2pts P/L + 54.2pts updated totals Bets 29 Wins 5 Places 3 Staked 290pts Returns 298.82pts P/L +8.82pts Yield +3.04% back in profit after a decent week. What i did notice was that a greater profit would have been made by win only bets. __________________
14 bets with 4 winners was enough to make a profit. Will look at what i did as i think i relied a lot on my trends for that meeting. :ok

Re: Royal Ascot Guys having watched JJthe Jetplane in dubai and hearing talk of it being 1 of the best sprinters about etc, i was shocked to see it finish 3rd last. However that was dirt and on good/firm ground i dont think any british horse will get near it and at 5/1 think its a stonker of a bet. Is marchand d'or coming over this year?

Re: Royal Ascot i agree with you about this race billy,i know you got your own horse and opinion of the race but an horse i fancy for this is forgotten voice but the only thing that worries me about this horse is that he as only run on the all-weather and he as to prove he is just as effective on turf, also the ground maybe soft as ascot are expecting rain in the area from tuesday onwards

Re: Royal Ascot Dave - Saw JJ The Jetplane last week in Windsor. Took a nice price on him before he won there. He looks like a serious animal, clocked a cracking time aswell, I think he is top of the RAF speed ratings for the older horses so far this season. Very impressive and will take something pretty special to beat him I reckon.

They think the world of him and he is clearly useful, but like you say this is a different kettle of fish. Straight mile on turf is very different to the race won recently at Kempton.

Re: Royal Ascot I fancy Mia's Boy in the Hunt Cup and Jimmy Styles in the Wokingham. Mia's Boy has ran a couple of crackers this season at York and is having a really strong season, so to win at Royal Ascot would be the icing on the cake. Had him EW at 20/1. Jimmy Styles seems to love Ascot, rarely runs a bad race there, and could still be ahead of the handicapper as he hasn't had that much racing. Taken 8/1 EW.

Re: Royal Ascot

If conditions are right then Captain Gerrard each way for the King Stands Stakes looks a good bet at 66/1..
what does the horse need though? Ascot will suit its front running style but a stands side draw will be essential for it & is it fast enough now? Does it figure better on a soft surface? Lots of ? about this horse hence the big price, been disappointing for me however Ascot could bring out the best if well drawn low.

Re: Royal Ascot the following was taken from the racing post regards the ground, and i have just looked at the weather forecast for the next few days in to next week and they are expecting some heavy rain monday in to tuesday ASCOT turned its taps on on Friday, with the irrigation system adding the equivalent of 6mm of rain to the straight course. However, on Friday clerk of the course Chris Stickels was still calling the ground good to firm, good in places. Stickels and his staff started the watering at 8am on Friday, turning off the sprinklers at 5pm, and he said: "It's almost good after that, but, with little rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday, the going seems sure to quicken up again." "We have been told to expect showers in the early part of next week but it's far from a settled picture and how much rain we will eventually get is not, apparently, easy to predict. "There is the possibility of stormy weather activity on Monday going into Tuesday, but there are doubts about that too, and we've been told to expect only small amounts of rain, or possibly even none at all, during racing on Tuesday. "What water we've put on today was designed to replace what moisture we'd lost through sunshine and breeze on Thursday, but it is not as warm, nor quite so windy today, so we shall have to see how things pan out before making further plans."

Re: Royal Ascot Only 3 days to go now boys and girls. My main fancies for the week are: Mastercraftsman (routed the field in the Irish 2000 guineas and looks to have a good chance again here) Monsieur Chevalier (probably my favourite horse of this flat season so far. have been lucky enough to have been on him for every one of his races thus far, and I'll definitely be on him for the Norfolk) JJ The Jet Plane (Potentially brilliant horse. Bombed out on first start in Dubai but the dirt surface was a n unknown and he clearly hated it. They switched him back to grass and he bolted up on his 2nd start in Dubai. Sent to Windsor for his Royal Ascot prep and did it well. 4/1 looks really juicy) Tax Free (10/1 looks massive. Has been in fine form this season. Shouldn't be 3 times the price of Amour Propre)

And he shows his best on soft ground, so the rain should help :ok

Re: Royal Ascot It will be a strange Royal Ascot for me as I haven't seen that much racing this flat season. I usually follow horses from maidens right through to Ascot so I feel a bit in the dark this year, the one horse that impressed me was Mastercraftsman. I've got the week off and will be hoping to catch every race on TV but will only be betting in races over 1m.

mastercraftsman looks a cert for St james' this year but odds on now!!
not a dead cert surely !.............:tongue2 his only 2 'poor runs'* have been when he's travelled abroad............maybe he's a home bird !........... * poor runs being 4th and 5th in group one races.......as opposed to winning them which he's done 3 times in irealnd.

It's because he has a terrible record at Ascot, if you look at his form throughout the years he'll run some very good races On the leadup to Royal Ascot 2006 his form read: 1311133 then at Ascot he was unplaced Then the leadup to 2007 his form was: 48111 then again unplaced at Ascot So be careful

Re: Royal Ascot Top jock market has Ryan Moore 5/4 favourite tues & weds will be key to get an early lead but rival Murtagh misses Fri & sat, so is this a stand out bet?

i think he has a great chance with Tartan Bearer, reasonable with Main Aim, & Fleeting spirit has a chance. murtagh has the following tues & weds

Mastercraftsman is his best chance & there appears to be a lack of O'brien horses this year so should be on an even keel with Ryan going into Thursday. Richard HUghes is 6/1 3rd favourite has a decent book also
