Wolverhampton - Mon 18/5/09

Rio Guru 9.20 Wolverhampton Was aiming way too high when competing in a Group race at York just 4 days ago but this is more realistic. Was 2nd off this mark at Lingfield but is a course and distance winner here on its only visit to this track. Has run well when turned out quickly, often within a week or so of its last run and that run at York could have been whats needed to get it to peak fitness. The race has been won by 4 yr olds in the last 2 years and there are only two 4 yr olds in the race, this and Distinctive Image and Rio Guru has already previously beaten that by 2 1/2 lengths. Both carried same weight that day, Rio Guru gets 2lb from it today. Mezzanisi will have its supporters but I hope Jamie gets stuck behind horses and doesn't get a run, I don't like hold up tactics here at this track but both Mezzanisi and Rio Guru will probably be delivered late and I hope Culhane gives the horse a chance with about 2f to go. Mezzanisi has winning form at Lingfield but this is a very different track.

She definitely loves polytrack (212412 form), and her A/W OR is 9lb higher than her turf rating. She has been eased 5lb this season by the handicapper on turf but he hasn't touched her A/W rating, the b*stard. :lol Mezzanisi has found the frame ten times but has recorded just one win. Not sure if is ungeniune or just been unlucky. Has run into two progressive types on his last two starts (Electrolyser and Hatton Flight) and perhaps keeps running into better treated rivals. At first look I though the race has ideal E/W possibilities - what with the short and perhaps vunerable favourite. However thinking about it, Mezzanisi is likely to be placed (given his record and style), so it may be better to go win only if you're opposing him, especially given his poor win record. If that makes sense.
