Newbury 15/05/09

Recommended Posts

1.50 Newbury - Kurtanella (win) Split Leleyf and Mrs Boss (those 2 run in today's Listed 2yo race at York) - the 3 pulling well clear of the remainder, on debut at Salisbury earlier in the month. Slowly away on that occasion, she ran on really well once the penny dropped and took 2nd place near the line. The aforementioned pair who she split both had the benefit of a previous behind them, making Kurtanella's performance look even more meritorious. She looks sure to progress from that run, and can take care of the other with experience - Mijas Playa, whose tardy start negated the advantage of her draw last week at Chester and she never looked like landing a blow. Bigger dangers may come from Mick Channon's pair. Channon has won this race 4 times in the last 8 runnings, including with the likes of Queens Logic and Flashy Wings.

Re: Newbury 15/05/09 4.00 Newbury Alanbrooke looks well treated running off 78 for his handicap debut and trainer Mark Johnston seems to have mapped out his immediate future already with entries at Windsor next monday in a handicap, and then at Royal Ascot in a Group 2 next month. It may be that they plan to turn him out under a penalty on Monday, and he looks to have a strong claims of earning a six pound burden for his next run judging by his form to date. Fifth on his debut in a Sandown maiden he was behind some useful types such as Four Winds (won at Newmarket last night) and Ra Junior and had Cry For The Moon, a recent handicap winner off 75, behind. On that evidence, I think a rating of 78 will enable him to win races, and the fact he won a Nottingham maiden next time out, when staying on strongly to suggest will get further than a mile, is a bonus, as is the fact the second that day won next time out to boost the value of the form a little. 7/4 Bet 365, 1 pt win.
