Chepstow - 24/4/09

7.55 China Gold 13/8 cor 15 pts I like China Gold here. No doubt fistral beach will have its fans but much like eradicate yesterday, he hasn’t convinced at all with his attitude and doesn’t appear to find anywhere near as much as he looks like he will. His recent losing record all from promising situation at times during the race tells as much. The blinkers will need to do the trick today. In contrast, China Gold seems a bit more resolute and also has some good form. It hasn’t won yet over hurdles but has decent form amongst the likes of, Copper Bleu, a good run behind Dave’s Dream. Lto he was perhaps a bit lacklustre behind a good sort of lavelle’s but it may have been that the trip stretched him that day and today back in trip he is the selection.

Re: Chepstow - 24/4/09 6.20 Chepstow Seven runners contest this claiming chase, run over 3 miles. Natal leaps out on official figures as he would be giving lumps of weight to these in a handicap and has over a stone in hand on Cousin Nicky, the second highest rated. Although the trainer is in red hot form, as you would expect from Paul Nicholls, this horse may be better over shorter, as all wins have come up to 21f. He has never been at the races of late, although does take a marked drop in grade tonight. Cousin Nicky would be getting 15 lbs more from Natal in a handicap but proved last month he will see out a three mile trip. He has placed form at the course, but may prefer a little bit more give in the ground. Andrew Nick would be getting 13 lbs more from Natal in a handicap but will act on this ground and won a claimer at Ayr last time out. He will get this trip and with Nigel Twiston-Davies' yard in fine fettle, a decent run looks possible, as the seven year old has further scope for improvement. Turbulence is likely to get the trip but prefers to get his toe in, and Arceye, although a course and distance winner, may struggle off his weight, a comment that also applies to Ben Ryan and Definitely It, so for the winner, I'm returning to Andrew Nick. 15/8 Bet 365, 1 pt.
