Pontefract 20/4/09

3.10 Pontefract Thebes is tempting at 10/1 even though he's disappointed twice of late and Advanced could go well after finding only the progressive Palace Moon too good last time. There is nothing open to the same degree of improvement in this field here, but the one I like at the prices is Bel Cantor. Admittedly, a career best is needed to take this as he is 4 lbs higher than his last win, but Bill Ratcliffe's horse is a triple winner over this course and distance and is the only runner in the field proven to stay on up the hill. During the last Ponte meeting the sprint handicap was won by outsider Pickering, with Dvinsky chasing him home. Both raced prominently from low draws and both had course and distance winning form. I'm hoping those factors will prove important again here and this one did run well in the Silver Cup at Ayr off 1 lb higher last year and will come on for his last run. 14/1 Bet 365.

Re: Pontefract 20/4/09 4.40 Standpoint @2.75 Sporting Odds Sir Michael Stoute has by far the most impressive stats for trainers here 11 winners from 35 runners: 2 Yo - 0 from 2 3 Yo - 10 from 32 4 Yo - 1 from 1 Today he sends the 1 horse which is a 3 year old which is pretty much what he specialises with here! :ok
