6.50 Doncaster

Red Jade was purchsed for 70,000 Guineas in October and makes his first start for Karl Burke. He starts life in handicaps off 82, but two pieces of maiden form for John Gosden suggest the Dubai Destination colt, a relative of two middle distance winners, may be well handicapped. On his debut at Nottingham he was third to Otaared, with the Michael Jarvis rival a tight second off 94 when last seen. Otaared's stablemate, Taqdeyr, back in fifth that day, hacked up off 85 at Kempton on Wednesday, to give that piece of form a very strong look to it. Last time out at Nottingham Red Jade got off the mark comfortably, running home three and a half lengths clear of Scarab. Mark Johnston's rival was a clear second himself and has progressed nicely over the winter, winning off 77 and shaping as if he had further races in him despite a fifth behind War of the Roses last time out. All in all, Red Jade looks a well handicapped horse who could go well if ready to hit the ground running returning from this 192-day break.

4/1 Sky Bet, 1.5 pt

Re: Doncaster Sat (eve) 18/4/09 5.40 Donc Whatwouldyouwishfor hails from a yard that have been doing ever so well in the high quality turf sprint handicaps and he is an unexposed colt that likely has more to offer after just the six starts. He started his handicapping career nicely, finishing second off 66 at Pontefract before beating Saif Al Fahad next time out off a 6 lb higher mark. The form of that latter race, at Great Leighs, has worked out well with 2nd, 3rd and 5th all winning since. Rainbow Seeker for example, off 78, and Joe Caster off 84. Whatwouldyouwishfor is rated 79 for this. His big price reflects his poor show last time out but the trip may have stretched him and with the yard in such good form and able to work wonders with those appearing to be going off the rails, he looks a decent double figure bet. 11/1 Blue Sq.
