Thirsk 17th April 2009

Recommended Posts

16.15 Thirsk - Steelcut Steelcut has won over this distance before and off the top of my head it is back down close to its highest winning mark (won off the mark of 72 last year) going off 74. It is also drawn well and is definately the most interesting contender in this race for me. table and jockey are firing at the moment. 2 pts to win @ SP

Re: Thirsk 17th April 2009 2.30 Thirsk An interesting race here with Avoir Choisi, Green Agenda and Bickerstern all shaping up to be progressive individuals. Avoir Choisi hacked up in a Kempton maiden last time out and the second boosted the form by landing a maiden nto. The third has been seen three times since, but was comprehensively beaten by Green Agenda at Lingfield last time out, so literal interpretation of those bits of form would suggest the Johnston runner may have the upper hand here. Green Agenda has also been very impressive of late, and put behind him a dissapointing two year old campaign with a string of decent efforts in the AW sphere, which has conincided with the transition to handicaps. A comfortable winner off 51 on his handicap debut he has won a further 2/3 since and after romping home by four and half lengths last time out his mark has been raised 11 lbs. He had Antigua Sunrise well behind that day and the second has been running to marks of around 67 ish in handicaps, so perhaps he may still be able to find another race off this sort of mark and if he is as good as was initially beleived (competed in the Timeform Million last year when 22/24 behind Donatavium) it would be a shame if his progression were to be halted off this sort of mark. Bickersten has been handed a 6 lb rise for winning on his handicap debut over a mile at Lingfield lto. Overall, a very competitive race, but I think that now the Johnston runner has started to fulfill his promise he is the one to be on, ahead of possible entries in Epsom and Kempton handicaps. 15/8 Bet 365, 1 pt
