McCoy = Genius

If there is anyone that ever wonders why Tony McCoy is widely regarded as the best jump jockey of this generation (if not ever), they just need to watch a re-run of that ride on Wichita Lineman today. I wasn't one of those that had backed it, but I ended up watching in awe of such a majestic jockeying performance. I remember remarking way before the Cheltenham hill 'that's the favourite's chances gone then' as a string of poor jumps and a wall of horses in front had seemingly given him absolutely no chance of making the frame, never mind winning. But how foolish I was. I forgot that I was writing off the jockey aswell as the horse, and when McCoy is involved, that's suicide. He gave the horse everything he had from a long way out, and gradually he began to improve. Then, all of a sudden, he started to make rapid ground on the leading pack. Approaching the bottom of the hill, he was pulled out for his challenge by AP. At that point, the win was almost inevitable. Anyone who knows anything about jump racing knows how devastating McCoy is in a close finish. He roused the horse into a terrific climb up the hill, eventually getting there in the shadows of the post. Truly magnificent.
