AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am - Thurs 12 Feb to Sun 15 Feb 2009

Recommended Posts

Monterey Peninsula, California will host this week's event as players participate in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. This event is played over 3 courses - Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill & Poppy Hills with the Pebble beach course hosting 2 rounds including the final round. Last week I rather hit the gaoalpost with Bubba Watson and Charley Hoffman finishing just outside the place money and I am rather annoyed with myself for not including Nick Watney the eventual winner as I was looking at this guy at 66/1 odds. I am looking for a bit of divine intervention this week and I am going to follow the following players: 1/4 odds 1st 5 places at most bookies - But Well done to Paddypower who go 1/4 odds 1st 6 places for this event :clap Mike Weir @19.00 EW Paddypower Weir has a great record here finished seventh here in 2000, 16th in 2001, eighth in 2002 and then went on a tremendous run of third, fourth, second, third between 2003 and 2006 and tied 14th last year. Hunter Mahan @29.00 EW Paddypower Finished 35th at his season opening FBR Open, then coming through the field last week in The Buick with a last round 66 to finish 11th. He Finished 14th here in 2006 and 16th in 2007 and has shown a liking for these links type courses finishing 6th at the Open at Carnoustie. He is a rising star on the US Tour and showed up well in The Ryder Cup for the US. Pat Perez @46.00 EW Paddypower Perez earned the first win of his career a few weeks back and he has a solid track record at Pebble Beach with three top-25 finishes, including a runner-up in 2002. John Mallinger @51.00 EW Paddypower Mallinger is a bit of a specialist here in his relatively short career on the US Tour he has four third place finishes and two of those have come here at Pebble Beach. He definitely has a liking for the Pebble Beach Golf Links. In 2007 he opened with a 65 there while he matched that score in the final round in 2008. Kevin Sutherland @67.00 EW Paddypower He finished second to Phil Mickelson here in 2007 and has five other top 25s at Pebble Beach. Being from Sacramento (about 140 miles away), he should have plenty of local course knowledge. Paul Goyodos @101.00 EW Paddypower Goydos was fourth in 2005 and eighth in 2002 here. He was up there in last week's Buick tied for fourth place before falling away in the final round and finishing tied 17th. :hope

Re: AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am - Thurs 12 Feb to Sun 15 Feb 2009 Looks good Jonesy, Im along the similar lines. AT&T Hunter Mahan @ 29 - local boy with decent (if not spectacular) course form. Played last week to finish T11 and a quality player. Would prefer to take him than some of the hit and miss players at the top of the market for half the price. Pat Perez @ 51 - will have banished the Van de Velde esque memories from 2002 with his win a few weeks ago. Knows the courses well, plays well here and has made both cuts (on courses that didnt suit too well) since his win so is keeping focus. Time to be rid of the demons once and for all. Matt Kuchar @ 67 - hoped to be getting 80s but 67 is still a decent price on a player in good form. Finished T6 last week and T25 in the tournament before that (another proam). Has made the cut here 4 of the last 5 years and finished 6th two years ago. Has the game to do well here and currently putting it all together. Greg Owen @ 151 - has hardly set the world alight this year but played well on the nationwide tour last year. his course form reads 3-mc-4-mc so is due a good run this year! With two top 4 finishes in 4 appearances he clearly likes the course. Arjun Atwal @ 226 - may seem like a shot in the dark as he too has struggled so far this year BUT he is missing his title defence in Malaysia to be here; to me that means business. With motivation high at a course he has had some joy at in the past I'm hopeful he can bring home a nice payout. Opened up 2005 with 68-68 eventually finished T16 showing he has the game for the course, its about putting it all together for us at tasty odds. Malaysian Maybank Championship Thongchai Jaidee @ 15 - it's not rocket science, sometimes a pick just begs to be taken. He won here in consecutive years and last time the tournament was played here he was at 6/1. 2 wins and 7 top 20s in his last 9 starts. This is his favourite course, I can't see him not being in the mix. Simon Dyson @ 21 - Asian Tour specialist who finished 3rd here in 2007. In decent form having finished 32-7-32 in the desert swing in far classier company than he will face this week. Should be there or thereabouts. Prom Meesawat @ 56 - two top 10s in two appearances here. Add in his 3rd place last week in asia and he looks like he has a decent shot. With this not being much stronger than a standard Asian Tour event he should do well here at very juicy odds (thanks Anthony Kim!) Marcus Fraser @ 81 - solid record at this course with three top 25s in his last four appearances. Played well at home in Aus at the turn of the year with a runner up spot to Rod Pampling. First event since Aussie swing so I feel this is a course he likes. Odds are decent due to possible rust but he could make these look a tad too long. Vodacom Championship Marc Cayeux @ 21 - this may be a tad random but I feel the odds are massive. Yes he missed the cut here last year but 2 years ago he finished third and in 2005 he won the event. His last 3 events he's finished T15-T10-2 so getting progressively better! Odds are distored by Charl Schwartzel but I'll take them! :loon GL
