From your man in Manila...

It's just another world! Flights went great...although bloody boring...Singapore Airways really are fantastic, serving drinks as required and meals every few hours...always with a smile. Taxi from Airport to hotel in Manila was a bloody nightmare! There seems to be no traffic laws and they just dodge in and out and cut each other up...very scary! Dusit Thanet hotel is great...all the staff greet you at every opportunity...hands together as if in prayer! It makes you feel very humble to be treat like this. Registered for the Main event...playing in DAY 1 B which is Friday (I think...if today is Wednesday! :unsure). Lowest priced games available are $100 SNG throughout the day...having a go at one this afternoon...won't be able to play many at that cost...unless I take them to the cleaners that is. Took a solo walkabout yesterday in the City and it was a real eye-opener. Taxis slow down and beep at you ...''You want a nice lady???''...FFS! Then this morning approached by two, barely 18 by the looks of them...but been told if you just ignore them they don't push! It's just another world!

Re: From your man in Manila... Security over here is massive. At each entrance to the hotel there are 3 guards. One with a machine gun, one with pistol and a thing for checking under cars and a third with a sniffer dog. Every Mall has an armed security guard too...pretty scary stuff! Bubbled the STT but it was a great experience....table was very chatty...got bt with AJ against A10 when the river was a 10...but I took it well @:puke Well 12 hours solid tomorrow...off to get some sleep (it's now 8.16 pm) :cheers for the wishes...:hope:hope:hope

Re: From your man in Manila... Day 1a Draws to a Close (posted about 4pm our time) That will do it for Day 1a of the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Philippines Main Event. Seventy five players turned up today to try to parlay their $2,700 entry fee into a six figure payday and poker glory and immortality. By the end of the day a mere nineteen remained. Norihito Suzuki jumped out to the early chip lead and held onto it for most of the day, but lost a big pot to local Neil Arce in the last half hour of play. Arce is the apparent overnight chip leader with 85,800 chips. Two WSOP bracelet winners were in the field to start the day, but neither one made it to the bag-and-tag at the end of the night. 1990 WSOP Main Event winner Mansour Matloubi went out early in the day; Seven-Card Stud champion Toto Leonidas held on for most of the day, succubing in the last ten minutes of play. Tomorrow's field promises to be much larger than today, and will be stocked with talent well-known to the international poker circuit. PokerNews will have all of the action live from the tournament floor at noon local time. Until then, good night!
