i am seriously in need of a new laptop, and i am going to see if i can do it this way,i have already started this and yes i know my starting bankroll is not the way most of you would do it but i am not like most of you :tongue2 playing this on Virgin and started off with €11. i am playing the €5.50 coolers with the odd €10+€1. as i am not able to play most nights this could take a little while :dude

Re: Teaulc`s cooler challenge for a new laptop

Good luck. :ok Is nobody playing proper poker any more? :eyes
Not really, Coolers are fun but will destroy your game longer term. There is no concept of post flop play or slow play. but it's easy to make some money from them so i'm playing them for now.

Re: Teaulc`s cooler challenge for a new laptop

Coolers are fun
They are? :unsure :loon Whilst I know what you're saying about "destroying your game" (and to an extent agree) - I also think they're great for everyone to play for a while (until they understand the dynamics of the game pretty well) as part of a solid and rounded poker education.... (as are most, if not all, of the STT variations)

Re: Teaulc`s cooler challenge for a new laptop what's the rake here ? Struggling to work it out. 6c on a $7 tourney, that's less than 1% Is it really that low :unsure Are these turbos ? If it's a 1% rake, i'm moving over there. Rake destroys ROI, that's why I don't understand people that pay 10% on Boss games. The 4% on stars in ok, but to pay 75% less is compelling. As an example I've played 128 games on stars at 20c rake paying $25.60, with this structure I'd be $19 better off. Over the longer term esp at higher levels this is huge well done btw, 65% is a good ITM figure

There isn't? and there is in a standard STT? I think coolers are essentially the same as standard STT's, very tight early and then shove when necessary later - I don't see the difference really except you don't need to go for first place? An what 'game' will they destroy? if you only play coolers/STT they I don't see that. I do understand it better if you play MTT's and cash as well, but I can't see how they will destroy anything? YMMV of course Damo

thanks AJ, the buy-ins are €5.50 but changed to dollars exchange rate (0.776) so this may look good but tbh it is 10% rake. no they are not turbos but cant remember the blinds rate.:ok

They will destroy (even your sng) your game because they have a flat payout structure that is unique in poker. The thing that makes a huge difference in SnG ROI is your post bubble play, turning thirds into seconds and seconds in firsts. You'll lose that skill here. In fact it's wrong to aquire chips at some stages, the risk vs reward equation is different

Then all your results are all wrong, buy-in should be $7.70, not $7.07 :unsure lower rake can turn losers into winners, you shoudl murder the low level coolers on Stars GaF

not wrong, you have to change the €5.50 to $ to get the rate on xe.com the rate is as follows:
Live rates at 2008.12.01 18:55:44 UTC
5.50 EUR = 6.95753 USD
Euro United States Dollars
1 EUR = 1.26501 USD 1 USD = 0.790510 EUR
i am working on the rate i 1st started on as there wont be a great difference

But I wasnt - and not just the results, I did find it significantly harder - I played 169 games (I know it's not mathmatically significant, but it's enough to give me an idea...) on stars overall and results (after rake) were considerably worse Coolers Progress

Re: Teaulc`s cooler challenge for a new laptop Sorry, but it doesn't seem to add up to me. if they are 5euro + .50 tourneys then you've correctly recorded $7.00 as the stake, but that means that the return can't be $14. Ten Euro return works out at 10 * 1.26501 = $12.65, not the $14 return you've shown. You are doing your recording with zero rake, it don't work out. With a 10% rake, and a 65% ITM your true ROI is 18%, not the 29.33% you claim in post 15. I'm not knocking your results at all, is a good figure but what you record appears incorrect :ok
